Serious security concerns and maintenance issues â not aligned with the price level
My experience at The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa was extremely distressing due to serious data security concerns, which resulted in three visits to the police and direct contact with a criminal investigator in Kuala Lumpur.
I stayed 13 nights at the resort in February 2026. While the beachfront location is beautiful and the natural setting peaceful, my stay was overshadowed by significant security and maintenance issues.
Most importantly, my personal and booking information was compromised during the reservation process. After corresponding with what appeared to be the official resort email address, I received a fraudulent invoice from a scammer who had access to my booking details. This resulted in a substantial financial loss and required formal police reports and involvement of criminal investigators. The resort later confirmed that their system had been compromised, which raises serious concerns about the protection of guestsâ personal and financial data.
In addition, the condition of the room and facilities did not match the price level:
Cockroaches in the room
Ants in the bed and bathroom
Rat droppings on the floor of the outdoor shower
TV without internet functionality
Buildings and bungalows appearing worn and in need of renovation
The resort promotes itself as an eco-resort and charges premium prices for a quiet beachfront experience. However, compared to other resorts in Langkawi, the level of maintenance and overall quality did not justify the cost.
The location itself is undeniably beautiful. However, the lack of proper maintenance and, most importantly, the failure to adequately protect guest booking information are serious concerns.
I hope the resort will take meaningful steps to improve both its data security and the condition of its facilities in order to better protect future guests.
