I have used Hayes Travel for many years. This is because the staff go the extra mile to give excellent service, and friendly help and advice.

The travel agent companies are essentially just receptionists now.
First holiday booked through these was okay, although it was far from what we wanted, it gave us knowledge of what we DIDN’T want for future holidays and we had rushed into it; I booked our 2nd holiday independently and it was great - 3rd holiday we didn't know what we wanted so went back to Hays.
We spent over 2 hours to get what we thought we wanted, as we asked for specifics and were guaranteed all were met; when going through the amenities at the hotel, we was told there was 1 saltwater pool and that it was the one that is “shaped like a kidneybean”, so thought not too bad as there are others that aren’t salt water. We should have left and done our own research but went ahead (mostly due to feeling pressured after spending so much time going through specifics, etc), paying almost £3,800 for the holiday (most we've ever spent). Upon going home and reading reviews and Tui’s descriptions of the hotel (which is where they were apparently reading from) and researching the direct hotel website myself, it actually showed all pools were saltwater and many people had issues with this. Entertainment wasn't really as described to us and the reviews on food and so on were horrendous. I found a hotel on TUI phoned with the aim switch hotels, but had to go through HAYS as we had booked via them. Hays don't have the same prices as TUI although the packages are who we are booked with. I didn't know this or would have gone away and got the same holiday cheaper anyway myself, and would have never booked with the first hotel anyway, with the pools all being like that (with an autistic child and a young one, if they couldn't take to it we would have been stuck). So information was missold. The only change we were wanting to make was the hotel itself, yes package had to be changed, however still same flights etc. Nothing else changed. I could have changed it all myself and had less stress, even with changes added costs of £200 through TUI, we still would have been under the same price as our first holiday booked through Hays. Going through Hays has cost us over £600 more and service etc. Isn't worth that when I have done it all myself anyway.
When booked via Hays, you can't speak to TUI yourself about your holiday as it was booked through Hays. To cancel our holiday and do it ourselves although only booked a couple of weeks prior, and paid full balance at the time of booking, they would have taken 70% of our £3,800, so we had no choice to either go with the original hotel, which would have been awful, or go with the one I found and pay £600 to change it.
In addition, when booking with Hays, you have to physically go in to get your tickets, which is so much hassle, along with the added cost for a holiday when I have booked myself anyway, makes me quite angry. I should have just done my original plan which was to go away and have a think, but after the duration of time in there, felt awful and slipped on my own rational thinking.

Also, unfortunately I didn’t find this out until after telling others to never book with them; this isn't the first time someone has had negative experiences with Hays in my family, my mum also booked with Hays with her cousin, being over 60 they wanted a tranquil, relaxed vibe holiday. They got to their destination and was nothing like described. It was practically a night club and full of large groups of young “adults”. There was nothing covering the specifics they had asked for.

I will never book with Hays again and you shouldn't either. GO DIRECT, SAVE MONEY, TIME AND STRESS.

The staff are always cheerful for a start. I finalised my arrangements, very efficient, took time and trouble arranging my needs and wants. All together a great experience
