Halifax VISA Credit Card Blocked

Halifax is wholly owned by Lloyds Banking Group.

I've banked with the Halifax since the late 1980s. I've had a VISA credit card with them since the mid 1990s. Not once has either my credit or debit card been blocked, until now.

Halifax VISA instigated a direct debit to collect the full balance of my Halifax credit card from my Halifax current account.

Note that the transactions are all within the same bank & instigated by the Halifax, not an external bank.

Upon the direct debit being instigated, Halifax VISA immediately blocked my credit card due to fraud protection measures. The money was successfully taken from my Halifax current account, therefore the full balance of my Halifax VISA was being paid in full.

I only found on the 02-09-2026 out that Halifax had blocked my credit card on 01-09-2026 as I phoned them to find out why my council tax bill payment wouldn't clear & why I couldn't buy anything using my VISA. They told me that due to the unusually large payment being received into my VISA to pay the monthly VISA bill, fraud prevention had kicked in.

That's right. They initiated fraud prevention measures after Halifax themselves instigated the direct debit for the "unusually large payment".

I was astonished to hear that Halifax would instigate fraud prevention measures against their very own self initiated direct debit. They didn't block my current account where the money was being taken from! The person I spoke to was as dumbfounded as I, but said that is how their fraud prevention works.

I was also told that even if I make a complaint, the people in the Halifax that control the policy for fraud prevention will not see the complaint & will not make any changes.

I was offered £30.00 compensation for the inconvenience, which I have rejected. I waited about two weeks to see what action they would take. But they wrote to me by text message & said they will take even longer to investigate.

I have therefore reported this to the Ombudsman without waiting any longer. This is a "Payment Services Complaint" & therefore the Halifax had 15 days to resolve the complaint, but they have taken longer.

The Halifax wrote to me a couple of days ago & offered me £75.00 compensation for the inconvenience, but has said that after investigation, they cannot see that they have done anything wrong.

This means that they have a deliberate policy to block a customer’s credit card under the guise of fraud prevention, when the Halifax themselves instigate a transaction by direct debit to have the VISA bill paid. In other words, the Halifax, Lloyds Bank, are initiating fraud prevention measures against themselves!

I have always been operating my credit card within the credit limit. I have not over spent. So come next month when my VISA bill will be high once again, I guess that they will do the very same thing all over again & block my credit card.

I have to ask, just how stupid are they?

The Ombudsman is now in the process of investigating.

CC blocked during important transaction

They blocked my card during an important transaction - causing me a lot of trouble/losses - what is simply a safe transaction even with MFA enabled and biometrics enabled. Rubbish customer service from India - they do not respond and think the AI messaging is enough.
The Phone lines are unresponsive for hours.
The app keeps loggin you out every 30 secs - they respond randomly in 30 to 1 hour and then close that case log. Extremely KAFKAESQUE experience.

Dont keep your money with them, very evidently, in an emergency they will be unresponsive and screw you over.

I spent an hour-and-a-half waiting in a queue in the Kingston branch today, just to cancel a direct debit. When I was finally served it took about 30 seconds. From the conversations I could overhear, all the staff seemed actively engaged in browbeating people who didn't want to do internet banking that they had to download apps etc. The staff spent an age with each customer trying to explain that that was the only way to go. I think the long delay was to to try to convince us that if we didn't adopt internet banking, then we couldn't bank in future. I neither want, nor trust internet banking and will NOT be forced into it, yet they still tried to get me to surrender. In the 1960s and early 70s, when I worked in a bank, the bank and its staff were there to serve the customers and treat them with courtesy. Now, we customers are an inconvenience and are supposed to do as we are told. Also in my day, we were expected to present smartly, in collar and tie, pressed white shirt and smart, sober suit with black, polished shoes. These days scruffy fleeces, jogging bottoms and trainers are the order of the day, and courtesy to customers has gone out the door. The whole organization is totally unprofessional and the service is terrible.

Non-existent customer service

Halifax credit card service has now moved to Lloyds. The customer support (supplied via the app 'chat' function) is completely dysfunctional: no humans are available, it keeps prompting you to leave the chat, and then disconnects you from the server. So the control you have over your own account is very limited.

Since they moved my Halifax account in Lloyds ,they made it a nightmare, the customer service is awful, I'm trying to merge my old Lloyds profile with Halifax profile and after three months they couldn't fix it. Honestly this is my worst experience with a Bank, I'll move very soon to another one.

INDIA -Export of UK jobs /Data Security…

INDIA -Export of UK jobs /Data Security /Due Diligence ?

The IT Job Relocation to Hyderabad is RealLloyds Banking Group has been restructuring its IT division under a sweeping £4 billion digital transformation plan led by CEO Charlie Nunn. The Scale: Lloyds is expanding its tech hub, the Lloyds Technology Centre in Hyderabad, with the goal of growing it to roughly 4,000 permanent IT and data roles. The Impact: This shift has drawn severe backlash from UK trade unions like Accord and Unite, as it occurred alongside restructuring inside the UK that put approximately 6,000 UK tech jobs at risk to trim costs

The UK unions have highlighted a stark economic imbalance: 96% of Lloyds' assets and 26 million customers are firmly rooted in the UK, meaning the bank generates virtually all of its multi-billion-pound profits from British citizens, yet chooses to export its high-paying future tech employment.

LLOYDS are sending MY data to HYDERABAD without my consent -and I am concerned for several items --JOBS in UK are being destroyed -LLOYDS customer base is predominantly UK so why should they be allowed to destroy UK jobs for the sake aof profitability
I am sending the following to LLOYDS

Below that, I have outlined the legal and economic mechanisms explaining how they can shift jobs despite the taxpayer bailout.📝 Subject Access Request (SAR) TemplateCopy and paste this text, fill in your details, and send it to Lloyds Banking Group's Data Protection Officer (usually via their online secure messaging banking app or by post).Subject: Official Subject Access Request (SAR) – International Data Transfers and AccessDear Data Protection Officer,Please accept this as a formal Subject Access Request pursuant to Article 15 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.As a customer of Lloyds Banking Group, I am exercising my right to be informed about the processing, storage, and cross-border transfer of my personal data. The 2007 Retraction: Customer Complaints, In 2007, Lloyds brought its call centre jobs back to the UK, but the decision was driven by consumer backlash and technology, not criminal data leaks. According to reports at the time from The Guardian, the U-turn occurred because:Customer Dissatisfaction: Over 400,000 customers signed petitions opposing offshore call centres, expressing severe frustration with communication barriers and a preference to speak with local UK branches.Automation: Lloyds introduced automated voice-recognition technology that successfully cut call volumes by 26%, making the overseas call centres redundant.

Get rid of robot and employs humans

My CC is locked and I’m unable to use it .
I visited in store but they can do nothing apart from give you the contact number.
Rang and the typical robot says use the Message service on the App, so I did and guess what it does not work.
Back on the again waiting for 20 minutes for a human to answer. Suggest they use more humans in instant you ring to speed the time wasting process up. The robot message says we are busy at the moment, wonder why.

Poor experience of trying to open a student account. Confusing messaging, it seems they don’t know what their own policy is. One person says one thing and another something completely different. Please be clear and accurate when giving information, don’t lead people down a blind alley. After reading the reviews on here, it seems we’ve had a lucky escape not banking with them.
