EDIT: As expected, Mazuma’s response only reinforces their refusal to take accountability. If only they spent more time working with their customers than responding to negative reviews, of which there are many stating similar issues.
There was zero explanation as to why 7 months of accounting were not completed. The issues only got worse over time with completely incorrect bookkeeping which also came with no explanation. Coincidence?

Mazuma’s comment that “your year-end accounts were completed well ahead of the statutory deadline at your request and were filed on 03/09/2025, despite not being due until 31/12/2025” is incredibly misleading. Their own advertised turnaround time is four months post year-end, which for my company (year-end March 2025) would have been July 2025. They missed even their own target by two months, yet spin it as an achievement.

Their claim that “all work paid for to date has been completed” is technically true – true in the sense that I was forced to keep paying their monthly fee for six months while they faffed about with our year end accounts. If we’d actually left at our year end (as we wanted), we wouldn’t have been able to file accounts at all.

We stopped sending any monthly bookkeeping documents after Mar 2025 because we had zero faith in their ability to handle even basic tasks. I told them they could instead focus their time (and the monthly fee we were still paying) on completing year-end. Yet, they delayed everything, wasting our time and patience.

I joined Mazuma believing I’d get reliable monthly accounting support. Instead, I’ve spent the past year chasing them constantly, dealing with major accounting errors, total lack of communication, and missed deadlines across the board.

A detailed account of what happened:

I received only one set of monthly accounts in 8 months, despite paying every month for ongoing service and asking every month why literally no work had been done.

When I finally did get figures, they were completely wrong. Every time I checked the numbers and requested amendments, it took one full month to "rectify", and each month the books were still riddled with errors.
Even after I explained the correct numbers to their team over the phone, they somehow recorded £185k revenue for a single month instead of for the year. Nobody questioned it, even though they should have had a clear understanding of the business' finances from day 1.

Their bookkeeping contained HUNDREDS of duplicate transactions, incorrect mappings, and over £40,000 wrongly posted to my director’s loan account. Complete garbage.

My VAT returns couldn’t be signed off because the accounts were so inaccurate, which led to thousands of pounds in HMRC penalties and threats of enforcement.

Mazuma repeatedly promised to fix things “ASAP”but weeks turned into months with no updates.

Their own managers admitted my account was mismanaged twice in official investigations, but still offered no proper explanation and the feedback team tried to deflect responsibility.

Even their documentation is entirely misleading. In the introduction pack they sent to me, my contract said a 7-day turnaround per month of work, but their complaints team later told me that was “a mistake” and it’s actually 10 days. It was literally written down as 7 days on paper and sent to my address. They also misled me about the year-end deadline, claiming they had until December to complete the returns when I pushed for urgent completion. Their company deadlines are 4 months from our year end (Mar25).

What’s worse is the attitude: Zero ownership, no urgency, and no real support. My messages were ignored, promises of call-backs were broken, and I was left completely in the dark about my business finances for months, contributing to stress and frustration.

Mazuma have caused serious damage to my company through delays, misinformation, and errors that could have easily been avoided with basic competence. They’ve shown a complete disregard for their customers and the financial impact their negligence causes.

They’ll probably reply saying this has been “resolved,” but it absolutely hasn’t - I still never received accurate VAT returns or any explanation for the consistent failures. They refunded me for the first few months where no work was done, however every single point on from this has been fraught with even worse errors in accounting. It's as though we were a throwaway business for them.

If you value your business, stay far away from Mazuma. They are incompetent and if you look at the other low-rating reviews, it's all the same story. Complete disregard for accounts and no accountability for it. Exactly what you don't want from your trusted accountants!

I've been with Mazuma for a few years and should have written this sooner. Really lovely little team, and a special shout out to Josie who has put up with me all this time and always knows what to do!
