âExperience fell short, though issue were ultimately addressed
Update:
After posting my original review, my complaint was escalated to senior management at Swoop Patagonia, who reviewed the situation and expeditiously authorized a partial refund. Once it reached that level, the issue was handled promptly and professionally, which I appreciate.
Iâm glad the matter was resolved, and I appreciate the effort made to make things right in the end.
ââââ
I booked a puma-tracking trip through Swoop Patagonia, and it turned out to be one of the most disappointing and misleading wildlife experiences Iâve had in 15+ years of travel.
1. Misrepresented itinerary
Swoop clearly advertised four full days of puma tracking (Oct 11â14). In reality, there were only three. The final day wasnât a tracking day at all â it overlapped with a completely different program. I booked this trip because it promised four tracking days, and that simply wasnât delivered.
2. Poor execution on the ground
No dedicated puma spotter, even though other groups at EcoCamp had one.
Guides lacked experience; every sighting we had was due to tips from other groups, not our own team.
Group split into two vehicles with no coordination, wasting time and reducing opportunities.
One guide deliberately held our vehicle back for over 10 minutes during an active sighting, causing us to miss the experience entirely.
For a premium wildlife trip, this level of disorganization is unacceptable.
3. Appalling follow-up and accountability
I filed a complaint immediately. Swoop told me the investigation would be completed within 21 days. Months later, Iâm still being told, âWeâre waiting to hear back from our partners.â
Meanwhile, a friend who took the same trip and reported the same issues to another operator received a partial refund within two weeks.
If Swoopâs partners are truly this unreachable, thatâs alarming. If theyâre simply delaying, thatâs even worse.
Bottom line:
Swoop Patagonia delivered less than what was advertised, executed the trip poorly, and has failed to take responsibility. I cannot recommend them â there are operators who are far more transparent, competent, and accountable.
The comment from the operator below stating they emailed me with a full explanation is a LIE. More lies and lies and lies.

Finding the Right Patagonia Experience for Us
Swoop did a very good job of helping me figure out what the best solution would be for my wife 's and my desire to "do" Patagonia. They were knowledgeable, pleasant to work with, and quick to get back to me on any follow up items. They helped us to be fully prepared for our visit.
Argentine Patagonia, 2025
Overall, I was very happy with Swoop for my Patagonia experience. I did have a small bump or two in the road (which I contacted Swoop about, and they received the constructive criticism very well). I'd certainly use them again -

Highly recommend Swoop!
Swoop was extremely helpful with booking our trip to Patagonia. We received thorough and clear guidance regarding options and recommendations prior to booking, and they executed all of the arrangements flawlessly. We were impressed, especially considering that the service was provided at no cost to us. I would absolutely utilize Swoop again for future travel, and would recommend them to others seeking guidance with a Patagonia trip.

The guides were great, they placed my group in a group with similar hiking skills and desire. We had a blast, and would definitely recommend their services.
Also, we stayed at the EcoCamp, and the food at the domes was spectacular.

Everyone was super knowledgeable about trip options - open but not pushy - and then the trip itself was spectacular.
Better than we expected!
We used Swoop for the King Penguin Encounter and every aspect of the trip, from pre trip planning/preparation to execution was wonderful. We had trouble with delayed/cancelled/missed flights and missing luggage and Swoop worked with us to still pull off a fantastic visit to the penguins. And it was SO worth it! Seeing them in their natural habitat was amazing. The naturalist was friendly and knowledgeable. The hotels were lovely. Fantastic trip.
Great trip..smooth and efficient plan :)

Great info and communication from SWOOP. Our O circuit trip in Patagonia was amazing.
Swoop Travel Review â Patagonia (Couples Trip)
We recently travelled to Patagonia and used Swoop more as a sounding board than a full-service provider. Overall, the experience was good, with some exceptional momentsâbut also some areas that could be improved.
First, the positives. Patagonia itself is absolutely stunning, and the people and activities we encountered made the trip unforgettable. A special mention goes to Keira at Swoopâher local knowledge really stood out, and her recommendation to stay at Cerro Guido ended up being one of the most meaningful experiences of the entire trip. That one suggestion alone made using Swoop worthwhile.
We also appreciated that Swoop is ATOL-protected, which gave us an extra layer of financial comfortâespecially important for a trip this far from home. That said, Swoop does require full upfront payment, and it wasnât entirely clear how those funds were allocated across the various providers. Some added transparency around cost breakdowns and provider payments would have gone a long way in building trust.
From there, the experience had a few stumbles. There was a miscommunication between Swoop and one of their local transfer companies, which resulted in the driver showing up at the wrong location. We also hired a car through Swoop, but it wasnât ideal for the terrain. A prompt to upgrade to a 4WDâespecially considering the road conditions and what most travel blogs recommendâwould have helped us avoid unnecessary hassle.
It also became apparent that Swoop leans heavily on its own partner network, which sometimes came at the expense of efficiency. For example, they booked us onto a shuttle transfer that would have had us waiting at the airport for over three hours, even though there was a more frequent public transport option available. While using preferred suppliers is understandable, it sometimes undercut the promise of acting purely in the travellerâs best interest.
Swoopâs local concierge service is a good idea in principle and gave us peace of mindâbut in practice, the support was patchy. When we had a flat tire at 6am, the help we received was minimal. Even just being directed to a reliable, fair-priced repair shop would have made a difference.
To their credit, Swoop did offer some thoughtful local suggestions beyond the itineraryâbut even that could be refined. Thereâs a real opportunity to build more tailored, on-the-ground insights that match the energy and style of different types of travellers.
Swoop is a good fit for travellers 45 and up, or anyone who values curated planning with a safety net. For those a bit more independentâor comfortable using AI tools and local researchâitâs worth considering whether you want a full-service experience, or just a second opinion.
That said, for Patagonia specifically, Iâd still recommend Swoopâespecially if youâre new to the region. Just be clear on how involved you want them to be, and donât be afraid to ask tough questions about alternatives, value, and logistics.
