I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing.
After reporting a missed bin collection, I was instructed to leave the bin out again for a special collection. I followed those instructions, but nobody came to collect it. As a result, I wasted my time for nothing.
To make matters worse, I received multiple phone calls within a very short period of time. If a customer does not answer, repeatedly calling several times in a row is not professional.
Poor communication, poor service and no resolution to the original issue. I have decided to cancel my service and move to another provider.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS, I ordered a skip online this morning to be delivered tomorrow as I have builders coming out, on the website this was not a problem, then they left it until 3pm in the afternoon to call me and say they are unable to fulfil the contract for atleast 48 hours now I am left with 2 hours left in the business day to try and get another one from another company, I asked to speak to a manager and was told there is no manager to speak to I then asked to speak to a supervisor and was told there was no supervisor either. So they have no problem taking your booking and taking your money but they cannot do as promised, now I am left completely stranded, for such a big company I have never seen anything so bad.
Do yourself a favour and order from somewhere else as this company is pathetic!
As this is a clear breach of contract I will be seeking legal advise for costs and time.

Quite unacceptable to charge and take an order that they can't deliver on.

Ordered a skip 2 weeks ago to be delivered & collected on the same day, 2 weeks on itâs still sitting there, Iâve rang numerous times Iâve spoke to numerous managers all claiming â it will be picked up todayâ I rang 2 weeks ago & every day since to see why itâs not collected there excuse itâs packed too high or weighs too much , Iâm sorry but if you collected on the day you were supposed to people wouldnât be dumping in it!! As a gesture my husband went out mon took OTHER peopleâs rubbish & went to the recycling centre in fingal at a cost of â¬18 just to neaten the skip up!! Shocking service from Thorntonâs Skip Hire
Googled Thorntons reviews today out of curiosity having been very badly let down regarding a skip delivery yesterday with still no sign of the skip arriving today. (Time now 13:37!) Booked and paid for skip on Thursday before a bank holiday to arrive the following Tuesday for a 3 day hire. Contacted Thorntonâs first thing this morning and received a nonsense response. When I asked why Thorntonâs allowed a booking to be taken, paid for and confirmed for a certain date even though there is obviously no availability the customer service agent could provide no answer . I asked to speak to her supervisor and was denied that option. I then asked how long before her supervisor would get back to me regarding my complaint she again had no answer. Iâve now emailed Thorntonâs and await written response. I couldnât pre book and pay for a treatment in a nail salon to arrive and be told no availability so Iâm at a loss as to how or why Thorntonâs presides over this shocking service. Having now come across these reviews I can see my case is far from isolated. Avoid at all costs! DO NOT book a skip from Thorntonâs!

Transport mismanagement on a grand scale
Booked and paid for a standard skip and got a whopping 5% !!! discount because I am a domestic customer. Some privilege! The day is half gone and no skip and nobody is able to say when it might arrive. These people (who proclaim to be ISO certified - whatever that means), donât seem to be in control of their delivery operation - which youâd imagine would be the most important aspect of their business. If I ordered a pencil from Amazon, Iâd know when it was to be delivered. All Thorntons need to do is use fairly basic technology to manage their dispatch functions - and keep customers informed.

I cancelled my household waste accountâŠ
I cancelled my household waste account with Thorntons in January 2026 and the experience has been extremely frustrating.
I requested cancellation on January 9th and was told the bins would be collected within 7â10 working days. The bins were emptied and left outside my property ready for collection, however months later they still have not been removed despite multiple follow-ups. Each time I contacted customer service I was told the request had been âraised as a priorityâ, but no actual collection date was provided.
Another issue is the mandatory â¬15 per bin cancellation fee. This fee was not clearly highlighted during the sign-up process and there is no clear version history or date on the online terms and conditions showing when it was introduced. When queried, customer service simply stated that it has been part of their policy for years, but could not provide any documentation showing this was clearly presented when I signed up.
Overall the cancellation process has been unnecessarily difficult and poorly handled. Leaving company property sitting outside a customerâs home for months after cancellation is unacceptable and the lack of transparency around cancellation fees is very disappointing.
I didn't have any issues while being an active customer however I chose to leave due to received a better offer from another provider and would have considered returning in the future however the frustration post-cancellation has ensured I will not be returning as a customer.

Absolute cowboys. They sent a text saying the skip would be delivered at 7am. After many calls (and additional charges) it arrived at 1pm. Asked them to collect it at 3pm and they wouldn't. Avoid them.

We've been with Thorntons for nearly 20 years and have found them to be exceptional.
We have experienced kindness, consideration, professionalism, speedy service, swift resolution to any issues and human understanding and interaction.
The latter is something that is missing from so many companies these days and we feel that it is invaluable! I certainly hope that Thorntons never change that aspect of their customer care.

Even if only one of your bins will get collected during the month, you will be paying full price.
They will raise their prices, and refuse to let you end the contract. They rise the â¬15 cancellation fee to â¬15/bin = â¬45, and refuse to set a day to come to take their bins away. I hope consumer affairs is able to help me to get rid of them.
Absolutely Shocking Service - Avoid Thorntons Recycling
If you want your bins collected, don't use Thorntons. They miss my brown bin collection at least once a month. It's an absolute joke. the compost bin is the most smelly, so it is really really annoying!
I pay for a service, and they just don't bother showing up. The rubbish is piling up, and it smells. It's pure carelessness and bad management.
I'd tell anyone looking for a bin company to look somewhere else. They are completely unreliable and not worth the hassle or the money.
The only good thing is the customer service you can reach over the phone ad they seems to be sound, however they have't done much here as my issue persists since I started the contract which has been a year now! More than 50% collections missed. What a joke of a company!
Very Poor service from Thorntons skip service
I ordered a skip from Thorntons and chose the 2 day option knowing I would need 48 hours or close to it to get it full doing a very emotional bereavement clearing. It arrived at 11:30am on Wednesday and on Thursday morning it was gone from my driveway after less than 24 hours. Contacted them and they did not dispute my claim but have no interest in following up or finding a solution. P- poor customer service from Aimee. Do not use this company for skips. I went and got two skip bags afterwards and am out hundreds thanks to Thorntons. At a difficult moment you let a family down badly
