Young Architect has been helping architects pass the ARE exam and earn their architecture license since 2013. For more than a decade, we have helped thousands of candidates navigate the path to licensure with one mission: make architect exam prep actually work for people with full-time jobs and real lives.
After experiencing the challenges of the ARE firsthand, licensed architect Michael Riscica founded Young Architect with a simple belief: nobody should have to navigate the path to licensure alone, guessing what to study, burning out, or wondering if they are even making progress.
The ARE Boot Camp is the flagship coaching program and it has been running since 2015. This is not a course you watch by yourself. It is live coaching with a real person guiding you through the entire architect registration exam process.
Weekly curriculum. Daily study groups. Real accountability. Boot Camp breaks the architect exam down into small, manageable pieces so you can keep working full-time and still make consistent progress toward passing.
After years of coaching candidates through the ARE, we\u2019ve learned something. The fastest way to find success on the ARE is to stop worrying about the minimum you need to know to pass.
Everyone wants to pass these exams. That is the whole reason we are here. But we approach it differently. We teach candidates to study with the intention of using this information on real projects with real clients. We use the architect exam as a launchpad toward a successful architecture career, not just a box to check.
That is what separates Young Architect from everyone else. They focus on passing an exam. We focus on creating great architects who pass exams.
Every course, every practice question, and every video we create is built directly from NCARB's published objectives. Those objectives define the exam, so they define everything we teach.
For candidates who prefer to study on their own schedule, the ARE 101 Membership is the most comprehensive set of self-paced ARE study materials available. Members get access to nine courses covering all six ARE 5.0 exam divisions, plus dedicated courses on AIA contracts, building codes, and building systems. Over 150 hours of video, thousands of practice questions, flashcards, and case studies. All available with a monthly subscription you can cancel anytime.
Young Architect also provides comprehensive preparation for CSI certification exams. CDT 101 prepares candidates for the CDT certification (Construction Documents Technologist) exam, CCCA 101 covers the Certified Construction Contract Administrator exam, and CCPR 101 prepares candidates for the Certified Construction Product Representative exam.
The Architect Exam Podcast is one of the most popular free resources in ARE exam preparation, with over 75 episodes covering construction knowledge, study strategies, and professional practice. New episodes are released every week, and most include free downloadable study notes so you can focus on learning instead of scrambling to take notes.
Whether you are preparing for the ARE, earning a CSI certification, or just beginning your journey toward licensure, Young Architect provides the coaching, courses, and community to help you succeed, not just on the exam, but throughout your career.

Young Architect is a great resource
Young Architect has lots of resources, even free resources like the architects podcast. The content is broken down to be easy to understand and they even set some memory hooks that help you remember content.
Teaching Technique / Storytelling
I started watching the Young Architect Youtube channel, and I really appreciate how the 30 minute videos explain concepts using simple logic and relatable, everyday examples that make them easy to understand. I can just sit and listen on my car or anywhere without getting distracted.
Easy to follow tutorials
Young Architect podcasts are quick, easy-to-follow, informational tutorials that help to summarize subject matter. They are great way to create "cheat sheets" for studying.

I really struggled with the audioâŠ
I really struggled with the audio recordings of other ARE study materials, but the combination of inflection in the narrator voices, analogies to help remember content, sharing the "why" this is important, and then the study guides to reinforce knowledge are truly so beneficial!

Information sticks!
I like that each topic is in a separate video and the study notes are available so I can use them to study for the NCIDQ.
The videos are easy to understand and i feel like the information sticks. Sometimes itâs hard for me to focus but the videos really help me because of the drawings shown on there.

I followed the advice that the teamâŠ
I followed the advice that the team gave to succeed in my exam. The information they share is great to understand the big picture which is what other study guides lack.

The ARE Boot Camp was one of the bestâŠ
The ARE Boot Camp was one of the best decisions I have made to start studying for the ARE Michael and his team were super helpful and supportive and are available to answer any questions you might have throughout the studying process. He is super knowledgeable and supportive and getting any additional certifications like the CDT or CASP exams under your belt

I really like how they explain the topics using examples and images. They make the exam process a bit easier.

the notes are super helpful as a quick reference and to hit the high points to maintain knowledge on one topic when I move to study another topic.

Great for ESL people
I don't speak English well. I had to look for a simpler version of ARE materials. Yours are number 1 by far.

It's great to have everything broughtâŠ
It's great to have everything brought together in one place without lengthy presentations of 101. I particularly like the broadcastsâthey're clear, sharp, concise, and easy to follow and digest.
I also think the quiz explanations work really well. However, the quizzes don't quite match the difficulty of the actual ARE exams. To me, Levels 1, 2, and 3 feel pretty similar in terms of difficulty. Even Level 3 is a bit too straightforward.
I'd also love to see more landscape-related questions, especially topics like tree protection, Irrigation. Soil exploration, and grading.

YAA is by far my favorite platform
YAA is such a great set up because even though architecture school youâre not in studio alone. Using this program, brings you with like minded people in the same platform to share information, educate each other, and work together towards the same goal. The program is full of information but you still have to put in the work! When you want to talk to someone, 9/10 chances Micheal himself, who started it, takes the time to talk to you! On the phone, via email, or even over video. I donât know many programs that the owner himself will call you and teach you. Iâve done other platforms and this one is my favorite. By far.

Iâm studying for the ARE while working and raising a little one, so I really appreciate having this podcast. Listening and going back through the show notes helps things stick. Thank you, Michael, for putting this together and making it free for us!

Clear structured path to tackling the ARE exam.
Iâve avoided taking the ARE exams for over three decades. With my last promotion at work, I felt I couldnât put it off any longer.
Earlier this year, I scheduled PcM and PjM. My goal was to spend as little time as possible on the process, so I figured I would keep taking the exams until I passed. The firm subscribes to both Amber Book and Black Spectacles. Coworkers suggested taking the practice tests from both and shared their notes and knowledge. It was quite overwhelming. I came close, but I didnât pass either exam.
A peer suggested YAA Bootcamp because it had helped them, but warned me that I would need to commit the time. Iâm glad I followed their suggestion.
Michael and his team have put a lot of work into the program, and it shows. Having a syllabus and a clear path to follow helped me understand what I needed to study, the concepts behind it, and how to approach the exam questions.
The videos, reading guides, practice questions, weekly bootcamp meetings, and additional Pro Practice meetups helped break the material into manageable pieces. Being competitive, the study log also pushed me to study more. Second place in the number of hours studied was not an option.
With Pro Practice Bootcamp, I now understand the WHY. Iâm no longer just going by gut feeling or work experience. I passed CE on my first try, one week after bootcamp ended, and Iâve already signed up for Technical Bootcamp.
Thanks, Michael and the YAA team.

First-Try Passes and a Built-In Support Network
Young Architect Bootcamp has been invaluable! I joined the Pro Practice bootcamp in January 2026 and passed both PcM and PjM on my first try. On to CE! The structured format and studio atmosphere keep me on track, and the bootcamp has connected me to a huge network of colleagues studying for the same exams. We help each other out, and along the way we've become friends and real supporters of one another. I can't recommend YA Bootcamp enough!

This podcast is fantastic
This podcast is fantastic! I highly recommend it to anyone studying for the ARE. Listening during busy days gave me a great high-level overview of the material. Iâve even recommended it to coworkers at my firm! Itâs a great resource to share with clients who want to understand the 'why' behind design decisionsâlike why ADA bathroom standards are necessary and not a waste of space.
Iâd love to see a future episode covering 'Evaluating the architectâs role during construction activities'!
