Food safety concerns and dismissive service.
I ordered a cake on the 27th of February and paid £10 extra for weekend delivery for a birthday event. The cake arrived with mould on the baking paper that lined the cake. This raised food safety and hygiene concerns and I didn’t feel that the cake was safe to serve to guests so requested a refund. The company seemed ambivalent and responded with ‘apologies’ that felt stiff and insincere, repeatedly saying that they’d never received a complaint like this and stating that they’d refund me ‘just in case’ despite me providing photographic proof of the mould and the batch number. The phrasing felt like they were doing me a favour instead of doing due diligence for a visibly unsafe product. I requested a refund and two weeks later I’ve received nothing. I would not recommend this company. Customer service is unsatisfactory, the cake had to binned and my money has still not been refunded despite numerous emails and requests.
Edit: The company’s response below is incorrect but not surprising as it is consistent with the poor customer service I’ve received thus far. I ordered from the correct business and have email correspondence and receipts to show this. I spoke to Jane. The assumption based on my user name is unfounded. I did not state in my review that I ordered from Kenya. I am however surprised that the company appears unaware of its own product range as they do in fact sell and ship cakes. I maintain my review and still await my refund.
Edit 2: The company has now removed their earlier response, which had incorrectly stated that I had contacted the wrong business. They have since acknowledged the issue and confirmed that a refund has been processed, although I have not yet received it.
While I appreciate the acknowledgement, I am still awaiting the refund. I will update this review once it has been received.
