I went with Abacus Solutions as the reviews looked good and I wanted to support a local company, plus they could provide integrated panels as well as a decent battery. I was getting a new roof and wanted the panels to fit flush. I signed the contract, paid the deposit and waited.

I understood there was a large demand on the products but I wasn’t kept informed how it was progressing, possible installation dates or any delays and I had to constantly chase as my roofer was busy and I had limited space available so needed to book him in around the installation of the panels. The work only started after I suggested cancelling the contract, 6 months after signing.

Problems then began after fitting, as they installed the wrong wattage panels agreed in the contract which I only found out about as they could only fit 4 panels on one roof instead of the 5 quoted. I only found out the wattage after checking the label on the spare one which is still sitting in my back room waiting to be collected. Apparently there was a ‘problem’ with the software but they used the on top of tiles instead of inset part of it so it calculated incorrectly the amount of panels I could have. I also found from the installer (contracted) that I could have had more fitted if I’d had them on top of the roof which I wasn’t told about. The waterproofing lining on one side wasn’t fitted correctly which meant rain would run underneath the tiles. This was spotted by my roofers when they fitted the tiles after the panel install otherwise I wouldn’t have been aware. Also they used coach screws which caused my roofer problems trying to fit tiles over them and some of these have missed the joists and gone through the waterproof membrane, sticking out the loft which I’ll have to cut back.

As of today they still haven’t corrected the panels to replace the ones fitted and it’s now nearly five weeks since installation. I’ve had a couple of e-mails stating they would ring but it hasn’t happened yet. They didn’t contact my roofer to keep the scaffold in place so this has gone and the lining still needs dealing with – well they did try to fix it but left a gap in the middle which still needs sorting and doesn’t look good either. Also there is a problem with the solar generation as the wattage display on the software keeps fluctuating even though the weather doesn’t change so it’s either the software or the panels.

Still waiting for it all to be sorted.

Michael came to advise us and quote for an air source heat pump to replace an oil boiler, he quickly determined this was not the most appropriate heating method and advised us on the best route for us without trying to sell us something we didn't need - thank you so much for the genuine, knowledgeable advice ☺

I had my air heat exchange system installed by Abacus Energy Solutions four years ago. The company was a delight to deal with, careful today ensure that I understood the system and have been in the ball with servicing and follow up ever since.

We had an ASHP installed in December. The initial discussions were very helpful and timely and the work was carried out as planned, with minimum fuss; the house was left tidy. Since installation communication has been slower so far, though little needed.

Abacus fitted an air source heat pump for me last March. They were helpful and knowledgeable without baffling me with the engineering details. They turned up when they said they would, and the work was done over about 3 or 4 days. It was an intensive set of work, with lots of different skills required, but well organised. They also dealt with all the paperwork to secure the RHI grant, which was very useful. My only slight complaint was that some paintwork got damaged in the bathroom, where the tank was being installed, which was careless, but not catastrophic. After care was provided in a timely fashion when required. Friendly, accessible and reasonably priced. I would use them again.

I asked Abacus Energy Solutions to quote for a heat pump installation because other reviewers had commented on the engineering ethos of the company.
From the initial visit,it was obvious that the company had years of experience in the type of installation I required.
The proposed system was a coming together of best efficiency with my preferences.
Like many people, I had little idea of the process, but Abacus took care of everything, such as the EPC and the BUS grant.
The office were on hand to answer any questions.
The installation team were efficient, a joy to have in the house and went to great lengths to configure the system to my requirements.
A faulty component on commissioning was dealt with swiftly and the system was up and running!
I am pleased with the performance and am happy to recommend Abacus Energy Solutions as an installer of air souce heat pump systems.

Michael came to advise us on the suitability of an air source heat pump for our property. He quickly realised it wasn't appropriate for our needs and was honest in his appraisal. He didn't try to sell us something that wasn't right for us, but instead gave us excellent advice about alternative heating solutions and followed this up with an email outlining what we should look for. We thought he was brilliant and are grateful for his help.

Having had several quotes, both from home surveys , online forms and phone conversations, when Michael arrived from Abacus he was a breath of fresh air. Clearly experienced, he designed a system so brilliant in its simplicity and convenience I had no qualms about placing an order for an Air Source Heat Pump to replace the gas boiler in our Millennium build detached house.
We used the Government Boiler Upgrade Scheme Grant of £5000 which Abacus administered, all I had to do was complete a credit check style online form for Ofgem.
A date was given for installation. I did have to change ASHP models due to Nibe supply issues, no fault of Abacus, and that date was honoured.
The installation team, Ashley & Chris, were courteous, hard working and very clean workers. Carpets and floors were protected at all times and to my amazement all the previous loft tanks, cylinders, pipes & pumps were removed without a scratch or scuff anywhere. The work was completed within two long days, leaving me with just a few tidy up jobs of bricking up the hole left by the removal of the gas boiler and a bit of lagging work. I confess to being a tad fussy.
The system works really well. All the equipment is in my integral garage, a master stroke of design by Michael. Compact and quiet. The house is cosy, water is hot. The outdoor unit is also quiet, pipes are in insulated ducting, very neat indeed.
The staff at Abacus, James, Michael, Kersha and Joe, are all friendly and approachable. I asked lots of questions before, during and after installation. Joe called and checked the whole system after a few days, resolved a minor issue of a cool radiator and made some adjustments. He was happy to talk me through the systems settings too and improved my knowledge considerably.
I can absolutely recommend Abacus if you are interested in low carbon heating systems.
Abacus have also installed a 9.5 kw GivEnergy home storage battery which allows me to maximise my off peak energy tariff, further reducing my bills.
Neat installation incorporating my unusual request for ladder storage. Thanks to Michael for sorting that.

Spoke to James, he was brilliant, gave me some really good advice re my cold room and was very honest in not selling me any product. Talk about unbiased! You can't help but trust someone who talks you out of something and gives you a viable alternative.

Decided to take the plunge to get a ASHP with a certain amount of trepidation during a project to extend my kitchen.
Had a few quotes from a number of installers but still had a lot of questions unanswered. I looked into getting my energy supplier to install the system as I thought that the technical top cover would be available for the installation...sadly not.
The build was going ahead and there was a risk of the ASHP installation causing the project to slow down.
I put another few requests out on the usual 'builder type' websites to get another group of installers to provide quotes (and answer questions), hoping this one was going to sort my installation.
The next day I got a call from Alan from Abacus, he arranged for Michael to attend to discuss quote and installation.
From this point things went brilliantly...Michael turned up explained how the installation has to happen, the do's and don'ts, debunked the myths and horror stories of ASHP and detailed the rules about the siting of the ASHP and installation practicalities.
All the information I had been looking for for months was all explained in about 20 minutes. The builder was also there for Michaels initial visit and they worked together to iron out the install practicalities.
I cant stress the value of an engineer turning up as opposed to a sales person on the initial visit...definitely an Abacus strongpoint !
I signed on the dotted line, paid initial fees and things moved on very quickly.....
About 5 weeks after the initial conversation with Alan, our shiny new ASHP was up and running. Michael put up with my daft questions, explained the system and worked with the builder to make life as easy as possible for him.
James and Kersha also made my life easier with the BUS grant process and I am still getting e-mails from Kersha offering support.
Overall I cant speak highly enough about the speed, technical support and all round service Abacus have provided.
I would recommend their services in a heartbeat!

I used Abacus recently to install an ASHP, solar panels and batteries in a house renovation/extension that I was undertaking. The initial sales process was excellent. Alan, in the sales office, was extremely helpful and patient with all my questions and took time to reassure me on what was (where the ASHP was concerned) a relatively unknown quantity (I was already a convert to solar panels). I am absolutely delighted with the end product. Everything seems to work very efficiently, although I have yet to really put the ASHP to work through a winter, but it provides hot water extremely efficiently, and effectively. One of my concerns was the noise of the fan. In fact, it is barely ever on, and when it is, is not particularly noisy. I've just received my first electricity bill (no gas anymore) which is minimal.
My only slight criticism is that at times it was difficult to get hold of anyone in the technical support area and my builders, plumbers and electricians were, at times, a bit unsure about what was required. We did get there eventually, and I appreciate that the team at Abacus were extremely busy as it was coming up to the end of the RHI incentive. Both James and Michael do really know their stuff, however, and the contractors that they used were without exception polite, tidy and extremely professional. I have already recommended them to my sister and would happily recommend them generally.

Heatpump move and service.
The staff at this company are efficient and polite. They completed the works in one day which was a very pleasant surprise. Excellent value for money. Excellent service level. Excellent communication.
After being let down by two other companies this company is a breath of fresh air.

Really disappointed with Abacus Energy. Spent several weeks discussing requirements for an ASHP, water cylinder, battery storage and PV panels.

They spoke a good game, but it became clear that some of the staff didn't have the expertise to answer basic questions or provide the technical information on the systems to fit the project.

I couldn't get through to the Abacus team on phone or office line and no-one returned calls, and email response was slow and unhelpful.

A complete waste of time despite being about to place an order approaching £30,000.

From the initial meeting explaining how the tech works, pricing the ground source heat pump to the installation, Abacus have been first class. They used a Groundworks team who were diligent, friendly and incredibly hard working. The installation took a week without issue, and the quality of installation was faultless. Whole heartedly would recommend Abacus Energy Solutions they are Trustworthy, highly skilled and nice people.

Abacus through Alan and then Michael were excellent throughout the process. Our house install was relatively complex with the existing pipe configuration and they were able to modify designs to accommodate this (such as a bigger pump).

The install guys were generally okay (they were subcontractors), although lacked attention to detail and were not good at clearing up or forward planning. We had some initial setup issues with the heat pump leaving us cold for a few days. This is where Abacus and Michael came into their own, responding quickly to rectify the situation and working to optimise the settings.

An Air Source Heat Pump is very different to a traditional gas boilers in terms of how to heat the house, so it's early days and I will no doubt be calling on Abacus for support to help get the most out of the investment to keep warm at the lowest possible cost.

Our system was a LG Therma V as the Nibe system was no longer available. A 14 kW unit was installed.

A few points for Abacus. Communicating exactly what is required in the build would avoid surprises (e.g. visibility of pipes, cables and isolation boxes). Also agreeing critical points such as the location of the control box and filling valves rather than just assuming and installing them without consultation to where they should go.

Explaining the system operation in more detail and what the settings do would also be helpful with this type of system.

Would I use Abacus and recommend them. Yes I would. I have confidence that the system they have given me will do exactly what I want for many years to come. I will use them in the future.

Just had the heat pump installed - everything done on time and as expected. Abacus also dealt with our RHI documentation which came through very quickly.

Installation done as part of house renovations and abacus coming again to fit solar PV, batteries and car charger. Will be very happy if this service is just as slick - no reason to think it won't be!
