I had been unsure about how the excess on my catâs policy is applied. So I phoned the company. Getting through all the electronic hoops was, as with most companies these days, time consuming and irritating and included advice for those who keep XL Bullies among other things.
However when I was able to speak to a human she was helpful and very personable. She answered my question and left me feeling supported in the care of my feline.

I spoke to Catherine Fairclough at Agria yesterday regarding my insurance policies for my dogs. I needed to make some alterations to my policies and was concerned about whether these changes were possible. Catherine was extremely knowledgeable and guided me through the process with empathy and understanding.
I have had one of my dogs insured with Agria sjnce 2022 and have always been impressed with their high level of customer service and prompt payment of claims. I therefore moved the other four dogs over to them last year. It was a pleasure to speak to Catherine yesterday, I felt both listened to and understood and most importantly that my dogs insurance, and therefore wellbeing, mattered. Helpful at First, Disappointing When It Mattered
Weâve been with Agria for nearly a year for our rescue dog, and up until our most recent claim, the experience had been genuinely positive.
Weâve always followed the policy properly, only claiming when weâre confident something is covered and never wasting their time. Their customer service over the phone has always been kind and helpful. Our plan covers each condition individually with an annual reset, which is actually quite rare, especially for an older dog. Pricing has also felt fair for whatâs included.
However, our latest claim has completely changed our view.
We submitted a claim for a dental abscess surgery. I personally included full documentation from a previous dental procedure, which was due to long-term neglect before we adopted our dog and was paid out of pocket. According to the policy, dental claims should be covered as long as there has been a check-up or treatment within the last 15 months and it is not for the same condition. This requirement was clearly met, and our vet explicitly confirmed in their notes that this was not the same issue.
Despite this, the claim was rejected on the basis that it was a pre-existing condition. This simply isnât true, and when I asked for clarification, they couldnât point to any specific wording or evidence to justify that conclusion.
What followed was three days of back-and-forth, with me acting as the middle person between Agria and our vet during the appeal process. They repeatedly asked for information that had already been provided, including requesting the same explanation from the vet again via email.
Communication was quick when it came to routine messages, but when it came to the actual appeal, we were given a 28-day window and left chasing progress ourselves. The whole process felt unnecessarily difficult and, honestly, quite dismissive.
Itâs frustrating because I genuinely rated Agria highly before this. But this experience really highlights the worst stereotype of insurance: happy to take your money, but resistant when itâs time to pay out on a valid claim.
Iâm not planning to drop this claim, but itâs disappointing. Because aside from this situation, they actually are a good pet insurance provider.
