valued a property 100,000 cheaper than a smaller property 5 doors away which sold a year previously really seems a bit odd

Excellent service from start to finish we were in good hands.

We recently completed the purchase of our new home, and Cathy was an absolute star throughout the process. As buyers, we greatly appreciated her professionalism and dedication, even when the sale took longer than expected. Cathy was the glue that held everything together—she kept communication flowing seamlessly between us and the seller, ensuring that we were always informed and reassured at every step.

Her positive attitude, responsiveness, and ability to navigate any hiccups with grace made what could have been a stressful experience feel much more manageable. Posted on behalf of my partner. I instructed Barkers in early April to sell my house after searching the internet and reviews speaking highly of them. I also had another agent due the next day. Following the agent viewing my house and talking to him, he seemed extremely keen to be given the instruction, saying four times he would like the instruction and saying I could contact him whenever I needed to and he agreed to market for 4 weeks. Both myself and my partner liked him, so we went ahead and cancelled the second agent. However it went downhill from here. We only had 3 viewings from them in the first 3 weeks after the instruction and communications were poor. The agent would rarely answer his phone and I was given another agents contact details who works with him. She mostly communicated by WhatsApp but would not often come back with a timely response. After those three weeks I wanted to give notice, but she persuaded me to find another agent who would work as a joint sole agency which I did. However after 10 weeks, barely any viewings and no offers I decided I had no choice but to give notice. It then appeared that I was blocked on WhatsApp and as I had given notice they weren't going to do anything over that 2 week period. When I called the office to speak to the agent I was rudely spoken to by a member of staff who answered the phone. There has been interest from about 3 different viewers, but Barkers have been very slow to follow these up and I have had to chase them constantly to ask for any progress. However one of these viewers didn't know how much he could afford and another person was actually looking for his sister and the agent didn't even really know who the buyer was. I had to ask for the key back and when it wasn't returned, my partner went to the office the next day to pick it up. I had to remind the agent to cease the marketing and was told it would be removed from Rightmove by the close of business that day, it wasn't. I sent an email at 08:50 the next morning and it was finally taken down. Everything felt like hard work. I certainly never felt they were trying for me. It has been a very disappointing experience and I simply cannot recommend them.

Update 13/07/24 - my partner received a call yesterday from the agent to say someone who had viewed our house previously wanted to come back with his partner to view today. No one came at the expected time, so my partner called Barkers and spoke to a person who said she'd get back to him. She called back saying that the couple now didn't want to view and the agent hadn't called for whatever reason. Texting and WhatsApp not possible then? Communication is appalling. Really, people don't use this company, they can't cope.

Absolutely atrocious. I wouldn't have even given this bunch of clowns one star on account of their utter incompetence, but the review requires you to leave at least one star.

We have had about five experiences with Barkers Estate Agents over the last few years. Each time they have let us down. They fail to respond to requests to view properties. They frequently fail to turn up at viewings when they actually do respond. Their social media has not been updated for several years (as of today's date). Their customer service is beyond the pale. How ANYBODY would allow this useless and incompetent estate agent to sell or manage their property is beyond me.

There are good estate agents. There are bad estate agents. And there are Barkers.
