I collected my beautiful cat, Coco, today from Battersea in London. The staff were absolutely amazing especially Paige and Graham on the reception desk. They made me feel so welcome. The process was dealt with professionally and I have nothing but admiration for the team. Well done. Highly recommended.

The information I was given by the carers at Battersea was excellent. When we arranged a visit to see our puppy Jax, he was exactly what we had expected. They had done a wonderful job with him while he was with them. He is great with walks and recall and they have great advice about using his food throughout the day as rewards. That definitely works. Thank you to all the amazing staff at Battersea. Jax is now very settled in his new forever home with the Davisons xx

What an amazing place to go to , the team there are amazing and so helpful, our little Buddy is setting in amazingly in his forever home.

The online registration was simple and quick. Battersea deal with all your needs during this and what you have to offer and what you would like. They will match you to a dog if they can and the whole team are very passionate about the whole process and making sure both you and the dog are a match. They are superb to work with and so informative at all stages. They even want you to update how everything's going when you rehome a dog. They have tons of videos and advice online. You really could not be in better hands and so are the dogs.

We thought our visit was well planned by the Battersea team. .Being greeted cheerfully on arrival by reception team to meeting our kitten, being interviewed and talking through kitten’s health and well being. All questions asked were answered by the team who clearly knew their stuff. It was a comfortable and professional experience. Such a lovely place, with a team who clearly love what they do.

So helpful, caring and understanding of what cat's would suit us.

Our experience from Battersea of Windsor was amazing from the word go. The staff are amazing; professional & friendly; communication was supportive & informative & is continued after we adopted our girl. BOW has beautiful surroundings that are very well maintained. Staff responded to my enquiry quickly and efficiently, we’re very knowledgeable and supportive during the whole process resulting in my new four legged companion now having a forever home.

We recently adopted a cat through Battersea and I can't speak more highly of the organisation. Everything was so well organised, everyone we dealt with was super lovely and helpful, and the animals seem very well taken care of. The adoption fee is incredibly reasonable considering how much work goes into keeping the animals safe and happy, not to mention the treatments such as neutering that are already sorted. I'll be setting up a monthly donation for sure. We're proud to say our new addition is a Battersea cat :)

We adopted our white staffy cross Krystal from Battersea 11 yrs ago and can’t say a bad word about Battersea. I believe they do an amazing job. We have donated for the past 11 yrs and we still have her but I am concerned to hear that they put some cats and dogs down especially when they healthy.
Also, will miss Paul terribly the programme won’t be the same without him !

Reading the previous reviews from people who have found themselves in the distressing situation of having to give their pet away breaks my heart but also validades my experience. Myself I my partner tried to adopt a large dog so a lady did a home visit and wrote lots of notes on her very important notebook!! We tried to follow up but never got a response. Finally my partner wrote a complaint and to my surprise they admited that the dog we were interested was put to sleep. I was shocked and angry! I still think about this poor mastiff to this day. We proceeded to purchase a great dane from a breeder and rescued a little dog straight from the owner (could not take care of him anymore). My dogs are happy but to this day I think I could have given that mastiff a good life. More laws need to be put in place so these so called charities are better regulated. Shame on you Battersea!!

I have nothing but good things to say. The team have been excellent at keeping me updated on the progress during rehoming, far beyond my expectations. Their due diligence and care in finding suitable their animals shows how much they care for the animals wellbeing. The animals seem well looked after and they are given all medical care to get them well to be rehomed, with a reasonable adoption fee that wont even cover this expense.
I have no hesitation to use them in the future.
The staff are extremely pleasant.

Applied online fill out application sent me another form filled that out sent pictures of house and garden haven't heard anything more and there's loads of dogs on the website that fit my criteria it's not fair on the animals being kept there when there's owner's waiting, it's fair enough saying we have to carefully match the dog but they are way to strict and owners have to be perfect, my daughter got a dog from the dogs trust picked a dog on the website filled out the form rung her the next day 2 days later she went down there and met the dog 3 days after that she picked the dog up that's how it should be then perhaps battersea wouldn't have so many dog's.UPDATE have now rescued a dog from another charity no problems what so ever.

Terribly distressing to read these stories.
So, considering enough people have raised concerns about Battersea, what can be done about this?
What IS being done about this?

Wondered whether to give a donation in memory of Paul O'Grady. Checked the reviews, and they are still following a kill policy which I already knew about in the 1980s. A friend's job as a veterinary nurse entailed killing loads of healthy kittens, so she left. No donation. Sorry, Paul.

Support a local animal rescue with a no kill policy. Or adopt an oldie - try searching for oldies. Or try the RSPCA. They also have special appeals, often for pets that are long stay. Another option if you want a cat is to try catchat.

I see that Battersea Dogs Home is now Begging for donations on TV. I would not give one pound to "BDH", or leave them a Sheckel in my Will. They find a Mongrel dog on the street and take it in and supposedly look after the animal. When someone wants a dog for a family pet and they go to Battersea Dogs Home they are expected to pay over £200 to obtain a Pet Dog and give it a good home where it will be looked after and loved, etc. You would have thought that Battersea Dogs Home would have been happy to see any animal in their care going to a good and caring, loving home ??? But this is not good enough for the Dogs Home because they want you to pay in excess of over £250 !!! I cannot believe they would charge such a sum for an animal to go to a family who wants it. A good kind loving home, etc. And I will Never go to Battersea Dogs Home if I want to acquire a pet dog or cat. And I will Never give "BDH" a donation of any amount. I would call Battersea Dogs Home a Big CON.

These pet killers killed my innocent cat for no reason. Very quickly too, with no chance to rehome him back to me. Because of their terrible communication with the public, the whole time I was waiting for their update (a week), they killed my pet. Lindsey of the cat intake team was very happy about it, and when speaking to her on the phone her general attitude was "haha we killed your cat *points finger* na na nanana" "there's nothing you can do about it haha". As you can see from the other reviews, I'm not the only one. We as a community should come together to shut this animal abusive slaughterhouse down because it's totally disgusting the way they lie about caring for our pets when they have no capacity in their hearts to do so, and have an assessment team that do not care and are looking to terminate our pets for reasons they make up using their arses. Now I have to live with the pain of loss for the rest of my life because of their immoral, unprofessional and disheartening practices. The government should shut this place down, relocate all animals out of there, unemploy all of their staff and put them all through courses that teach them how to properly care for an animals well-being. What a disgrace. Rescue Centre? More like a Killing Centre.

Rehomed my dog to Battersea old windsor, thinking they would care for him. After 100 days received a call telling me they were going to kill him. Said he had become aggressive. With help of some caring people, managed to rescue him. No sign of aggression or bad reaction to men ( which they reported). They lied as an excuse to kill him. I think 100 days is the criterion. Appalling.
Thank god he is safe now and not dead.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE!
They will kill your animal for no good reason, just when they can't be bothered with it any more and make up a bunch of lies to justify the killing.
Should be shut down!!

Update: the dog was taken out of Battersea at the last minute before they killed him. Their story of him becoming aggressive towards people and other dogs proven to be false. Just a lie to justify the killing.
Absolutely shameful and a disgrace!
