Great Stay & Excellent Communication with a Few Hiccups
We recently stayed at this rental in Big Bear Lake and had a very positive experience overall, despite a few minor issues.
The Management & Communication
The communication from the rental team was truly excellent. A few hours before our scheduled check-in, we were notified that our original cabin was undergoing emergency maintenance. While this made us nervous given the timing, the representative handled it perfectly. They immediately sent over three alternative options with photos and descriptions. To compensate for the inconvenience, they also returned our security deposit, which we greatly appreciated.
The Property & Amenities
The location of the house was fantastic. If you are traveling with pets, you couldn't ask for a better fenced property—it was large, secure, and perfect for our two small dogs.
Inside, the home was cozy and well-equipped for the weather:
Heating: The bedroom heaters were amazing. They worked quickly and efficiently, which was much needed during the chilly nights.
Bedding: The beds were very comfortable, and the host provided plenty of extra pillows and blankets.
Areas for Improvement
There were a few cleanliness and prep issues that kept this from being a five-star stay:
Kitchen Cleanliness: Several dishes, cups, and glasses were put away dirty. We ended up washing all the silverware, plates, and glassware ourselves before we felt comfortable using them.
The Couch: While the couch featured a recliner, it was full of crumbs and hair when opened, so we avoided using it for the rest of the trip.
Supplies: The listing stated that soap, shampoo, and conditioner were provided. However, there was only one hotel-sized sample of each. We had to make a run to Vons to buy basic soap for the bathroom and shower.
Final Verdict: Despite the initial stress of the cabin switch and the need for a deeper clean in the kitchen and living area, it was a nice rental for the price. The stellar communication and the great yard for our dogs made it a worthwhile stay. We would consider booking with this team again!

Hello,
Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review. We truly appreciate your understanding regarding the last-minute cabin change, and we’re glad our team was able to provide alternative options quickly and help make the transition as smooth as possible.
It’s wonderful to hear you enjoyed the location, fenced yard for your dogs, comfortable beds, and cozy atmosphere. We’re also happy the heating and extra linens helped make your stay comfortable during the colder weather.
We sincerely apologize for the cleanliness issues you encountered with the kitchen items and couch. We’ll be sharing your feedback with our housekeeping team to help improve the guest experience moving forward.
Regarding the toiletries, we do provide starter supplies of soap, shampoo, and conditioner to help guests get settled in upon arrival. We apologize if this was not communicated clearly beforehand.
Thank you again for your kind words about our communication and service. We truly appreciate your feedback and would love the opportunity to host you again in the future!
Disappointing cabin
Going through cool cabins was easy to use. My rating was based on the cabin we rented. The picture looked like abt a dozen stairs to go down to get to house, in reality there were 42!!! The house is older, which was fine, but the flooring needed much work. The hot water ran out after one short shower. Must have a very small water heater or the temp set very low.

Hi Jennifer!
Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear the booking process with Cool Cabins was easy to use, though we’re sorry the property itself did not fully meet your expectations.
We understand your concerns regarding the number of stairs, flooring condition, and hot water capacity. We appreciate you bringing these items to our attention, and we will share your comments with our team for review and follow-up.
We’re sorry for the inconvenience this caused during your stay and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.
This place is exceptional
The cabin was very comfortable and well stocked with all the necessary utensils. The area was quiet and peaceful, close to the Village, hiking and biking. The only suggestion we have is that some sort of venting (Whole house fan) should be added to allow the warm air to escape from the raised area of the home. It was very warm so we had to use the air conditioning in May. This would result in energy cost savings. Also, all the signs on the wall next to the front door need to be fastened to the wall at the bottom. When you run the heater, they flap up and down. The booking process was very easy and Cool Cabins kept us well informed.

Last minute getaway
I’ve been to big bear several times in the pass but this experience was different. Beautiful cabin in a quiet street. Cabin was extremely clean and we loved the comfortable feeling. My family and I just had a wonderful time. Cool cabins was a simple and reasonable price. The only thing was the cabins upstairs bathroom door needs replacing and the shower head. Besides that it was a perfect cabin.

Comfy cabin
Well stocked kitchen. Use the fan to keep heat circulating instead of going up. Having a bathroom heater in the wall was a nice touch. Didn’t use the fireplace. But nice to have just in case. Convenient location to everything!

Effortless Family Chill Spot
We only had one minor issue (missing dishwashing detergent). Otherwise it was an effortless and restorative weekend experience. The cabin had all the amenities and supplies we needed, including a well equipped kitchen and outdoor fire pit and grill. The giant overstuffed couches were a great place for the family to hang out. The forced air heating worked perfectly without any drama. Oh, and comfy beds, too!

Big Bear Cabin
House was great. Perfect for me and my wife and our dog. Great view. Amenities were fantastic. Location was nice. Had difficulty looking for the key box. Heaters appear to be not working or lack of instructions on how to operate them. Tall people may have issues with the kitchen and bathroom. We almost didn’t make driving up the driveway. We had an SUV and our tires were slipping. After that, we had to park at the top just before the driveway because we were afraid we might not make it the next time. If not for the driveway, it would have been 5 stars.
