I have found the format of CF to be incredibly good for my way of learning. Project oriented approach to learning, feeding you relevant information through each step of the process. I have had some communication issues with my tutor, and some of the submission criteria for tasks does not seem to be consistent but overall I am a huge fan of the process and course.
As a recent university graduate who was used to online courses and wanted to dive into a new specialization, I'm having a wonderful time with this course! The tutors, mentors, and advisors provide constant support. Since it's generally self-paced, it works well especially to those who want to be able to learn a new skill efficiently. I have completed the main course and am now working with a very helpful career specialist through CareerFoundry to find my first UI/UX job :)
I can only talk about the UI and UX courses but I feel they are a great way into the industry.
I got my first role after 2 weeks of completing the course. I do feel that some people expect to be hand held all the way into a first job in the industry....that is not what the training is about.
Students need to read around the subject and tutors provided lots of additional resources an almost every submission.
But I feel for those who have unresponsive tutors or mentors. I asked for a change of mentor and it was sorted out straight away...so I feel you must take ownership of your training too.
Honestly I think this is a great way into the industry. Everyone whom I got to know in the UI and UX courses all got work within a few months of completing the course. One person took about 8 months but that was due to her location...but she worked hard and also succeeded.
I'm a total career changer, so it's not always easy for me, but the CareerFoundry team is there to help and advise.
The course material is clearly structured, and with every little achievement, I feel a bit more confident.
The vibrant Slack community is worth its weight in gold!
I started the course very perfectly and was happy learning frontend and basics. When I started the Full Stack Immersion, my first mentor couldn't help me because he didn't know what he was talking about. It seems like he didn't know anything about javascript. It took a month for him to help me with a simple issue with one of the features of a simple project. My second mentor was better, but the material was poorly updated or explained. I had to book a call with my mentor to explain some materials, and since he was super busy, it took a week or more to get help each time. After all, one of the reasons that I got this course with CareerFoundry was the job guarantee. Basically, without any experience and a related university degree, there would be no chance of getting a job, and collecting the requirements for getting a refund is a full-time job itself. I DO NOT recommend this school/Bootcamp to anyone who doesn't have related experience or degree. I applied for many jobs in many companies in the US and only got one interview in 7 months, and still no job.
I completed the UI Design course in 2022 and discovered that what I was taught did not meet the industry requirements for an entry-level job. The courses are text-based instruction with links to articles online. Each article has an assignment with a very low bar to passing - essentially just following instructions. I got limited feedback throughout the course, maybe about a sentence of feedback and a list of more links to articles on the topic. My tutor approved almost everything after the first try, and it was only sent back to me once because I forgot to include a component.
After finishing the course, there's a career course that you need to complete in 1 month and start applying for jobs to qualify for the job guarantee. The course had something like 12 assignments, one of which was to create a website with all the case studies for the course. It took me about a month just to build my portfolio website. The course does not teach how to build a website so I had to watch youtube videos. I finished the course in 2 months and thus was ineligible for the job guarantee.
After I graduated, their advice for getting a job didn't work for me. I applied for jobs, networked in the field, and did a few volunteer projects to build up my portfolio. I went through about 4 career specialists because they kept switching me when the suggestions they gave were not working. The career specialists I worked with seemed frustrated with me and often behaved as if they did not believe I was doing the things I said I was doing. For example, one asked me to track my time and activities on the job search. I spent an extra hour or so each week doing this. When I submitted my results and asked for a meeting, I got a more detailed prompt for tracking my job search. When I submitted my more detailed report of what I did in the past few weeks, I was told to keep doing that every week.
At the beginning it started out ok and I was completing the coursework on time however, I soon noticed that if I had a question or came to a point where the content was not clear or there was information missing, I couldn't get help right away.
All I could do was send a message to the tutor and have to wait 24hrs for a response. The question could have been as simple as a yes/no response but I had to wait 24hrs just for that response. This immediately struck me as something disturbing and I began questioning the efficacy of this training. There were also many times when the course content was not clear; I had questions about what the exercise was trying to tell us but had to wait 24 hrs just to clarify what they were talking about.
Somehow I got over these hurdles and kept pushing forward. About half way through the program, my tutor took some vacation for about 6 weeks. CA assigned a replacement tutor that, for the most part, didn't really care or spend the time with the student to help them get questions answered.
I lost 6 weeks with the replacement tutor and could not finish an exercise that I had all but completed but I needed his assistance on a persistent error message I was getting.
After 6 weeks I was still on this same exercise and right around that time my tutor finally returned and found the problem within 24 hrs (of course I had to wait 24 hrs) but the point being that this showed the difference in the tutorial assistance I was receiving. Why couldn't the substitute tutor have found the solution in 24 hrs? It was either because he himself didn't have the knowledge to debug the program or he simply didn't care to spend the time with the student.
Next problem was with the mentor (different from the tutor I was talking about) for a certain exercise he was assigned to. Once again I reached the end of the exercise and had a connection error that I was unfamiliar with. I submitted my work with all the coding involved and he [the mentor] told me he couldnât render it locally on his machine and asked me to get it working on my end before submitting it to him again.
I thought; Excuse me but what is the mentorâs purpose here? Why am I paying so much money for this assistance and he only tells me to go figure out by myself? I had finished the exercise but I was getting an error that could have been debugged if he spent the extra few minutes to find it.
So the mentor then went away on vacation for a week (more time lost in the program) and I turned to my tutor who had been very helpful all along. He responded within 24hrs to tell me the project was working on his end. He had no problem with it. It was working just fine. So I asked him if he could help me find out why it wasnât working on my end. It must have been some setting or something that I was missing and he agreed to help me find it. He spent a few days on it but we still hadnât come to a solution.
I had to be considerate of his time as well as this exercise was not even assigned to him originally so he was spending extra time to help me out aside from his regular work schedule. By that time however, the mentor had returned so I turned the question back to him and explained to him that my tutor was able to get it to render locally on his end and once again if he could help me find the reason it wasnât rendering on my end. His response was the following:
"I would suggest have a call with him and share your screen and show him the issue you are having and see if he can help fix the issue since you said it is working for him. I am kind of busy to spend time on this to figure out what is the issue."
Once again I thought, are you sure youâre a mentor for this program? Iâm paying for this assistance and your answer is to go to someone else for help?
Well, that was pretty much the last straw in this program and just about all I could handle with the long delays and wasted time. I could have finished the entire program by now if I only had the proper assistance that I was paying for. I cancelled the program but they would not refund anything as compensation for the time and money lost due to their inefficient program.
They have a 15 day money-back guarantee which is a joke. You would never find these problems in 15 days. You would have to experience the program and realize the inefficencies and problems later as time went on and you go further into the course materials.
I only hope that this review can help others to make a proper decision when looking for on-line training programs such as these BEFORE spending their hard earned money on it.
I would not recommend this program for all of the above reasons.
Course content is confusing; assistance takes too long plus inability or unwillingness to help out students in a timely fashion and sometimes not at all. The Career Foundry program gets a 2 on a scale of 1-10. Thatâs my rating for this program.
I had a terrible experience with their full stack web development program. There are much better programs out there that are more up to date on their materials and are less expensive. It seems like the only program of theirs that they care about maintaining and supporting is the UX program, but the coding program was unacceptable. Tutors that are either unavailable, don't care, or dont know how to explain coding, projects that are so out of date that all of them have broken within a few months of completing the program, and a program that makes you jump through absolutely ridiculous hoops to try to get a refund, which it doesnt seem like ever happens. This program was advertised to be able to complete in 8 months part-time, which is IMPOSSIBLE unless you have a very very low workload or job that doesnt require a lot from you. They also advertised that they have great tutors and mentor who support you throughout the program....I had 5 differrnt tutors and 3 mentors due to the absolute lack of support from previous ones, and some of them being rude and insulting when you ask for help. This program talks the talk with how supportive and amazing it is, but absolutely does not walk the walk. And the fact that their projects are YEARS out of date is ridiculous. I wish I didn't spend thousands of dollars on this program, as well as be forced to pay $500 per month for extensions due to tutors being unavailable to help, projects being obscenely put of date, and it being near impossible to complete it in the given time frame. Don't waste your time or money!!
I highly regret spending my money here.
The Web Dev course is outdated and the support is appalling. The tutor support is non-existent, you're better off paying $10 for a React course elsewhere and you'll get better help too.
Absolutely awful course. Don't believe all the reviews. It seems very suspicious there have been so many good reviews written in the last few weeks on the back of some very poor reviews. (note especially the number of reviews that were written on January 28th!) It seems highly improbable that so many members of the general public would have coincidentally written good reviews on the same day, especially when no positive reviews have been published for such a long time. Just saying...
The course is VERY outdated. There are long pieces of text to read (sadly hardly any video's - come on Careerfoundry - it's 2022!) The long, rambling texts have been translated poorly and incomprehensibly from German. Good luck if you are an English speaker.
The allocated times for tasks are ridiculous. To give an indication, they say certain tasks will take 6 hours - they will in fact will take 35 hours minimum.
It's a two year course condensed poorly into 9 months. When inevitably you don't finish in time, you get charged a monthly fee for going over the allocated time. It's a complete money making enterprise. Be prepared to shell out a lot more money than the initial course fee.
There are much, much better and far cheaper courses out there.
I have started two other courses (I'm not sure if `i can mention the names on trustpilot) but both courses were a fraction of the price and I have already learnt more more in 2 months than I did in 12 months of Careerfoundry.
Save yourself some money and some pain and avoid. Please also check out the negative reviews on Google. Start with the lowest reviews first. If I can save one person from the wasted year I have been through it would be worth it. I would give no stars if I could.
Although the course is super intense and demanding (and I honestly mean it), I consider it one of the best educational choices I have made. I tried some other UX courses in the past; however, they all missed one thing: STRUCTURE.
The amount of support you receive in order to succeed is enormous, and I am saying this as a newbie in the field. I appreciate the information and the instructions delivered and the proficiency and friendliness of my tutor, mentor, and the entire CF community. I can honestly recommend it to anybody who wishes to change his professional path.
Terrible experiences German service and Tutors terrible you can find better help in youtube fro free than the help the tutors here give the students terrible tutors not willing to help you complete the task they are very good in the enrolment stage but after you are enrolled you are just a number there nobody at CF will help you don't waste your time here
I have been so extremely grateful for the team at CareerFoundry! My tutor Rachel is so kind and helpful with her feedback (and always timely!). My mentor Sam has been so encouraging, I really appreciate his feedback on my achievements (the bigger portions of the project that he reviews). I would highly recommend CareerFoundry to anyone who needs the flexibility of online learning and is unable to attend live discussions. They have a HUGE slack community that is always at the ready to connect and offer support as well. The student services team has been very easy to communicate with about my timeline concerns when I had a family emergency.
Overall, I am very happy thus far. I can't wait to finish and go through the job preparation section of the program. I have a good feeling that it will not disappoint.
Hey! I think that sometimes the course could be more practical, with more videos showing how to use some of the tools instead.
The instructors are very nice, their feedback is always helpful in many ways.
And even if the job assistance is good, it could be improved by having more direct contact with the supplier's support team to avoid any miscommunication.
As a student with no background in web development & coding in general, I feel CareerFoundry is the best choice I ever made. The curriculum is very well organised, I was skeptical at first when I knew it was online but when I started the course I felt involved in the course more than ever, there's so much to learn and to practice that you don't feel the time pass by and you just want to finish one task and start another.
My tutor and mentor are people who you look up to they are always there to help, give advices and guide me through my coding journey.
The Student advisors are very welcoming and they always keep contact through encouraging emails.
I encourage anyone who is interested in coding to take Full-Stack Web development course at CareerFoundry you won't regret it!
I am currently taking the full stack web development course at CareerFoundry. It has been very challenging, but also exciting, as I gradually figure out how everything works, having come into this with almost no coding experience. My mentor at CareerFoundry has been very supportive, encouraging, and helpful.
I took the monthlong Career Foundry bootcamp to dip my toes into HTM and CSS (I'm learning how to build websites), and it was excellent. From the content to UX to mentorship, I was highly impressed and learned a ton. The pacing was great and the feedback and assistance I got when I needed help blew me away. I would absolutely recommend and take again!
I'm finishing my UX course at CareerFoundry and it definitely worth its money and all the effort. They built the whole journey based on the experience of the potential students. Starting with the articles in the blog, when you're in the wondering phase of what to do and which way to go; to tutor and mentor, who are very helpful and motivating; to curriculum, which is written in very friendly and comprehensible language; to the vast community from all over the world; to own paced studying; to the Job guarantee option, where if you don't find a job in 6 months after the end of the course they will refund you the money. What else you would need?
I'm still not done my course yet but so far it has been great! I was on the fence of choosing between general assembly and UofT bootcamp but eventually decided on careerfoundry and I'm happy that I did. Having an mentor and tutor to support in your journey is very motivating and there is also a slack community where you can meet other people that are also taking the course. I would highly recommend this course as it has a job guarantee and a career specialist which other bootcamps don't have.
I cannot say enough good things about CareerFoundry! The course material is relevant to today's world and work as a UX designer. They walk you through the whole design process and then some, preparing you for work after the course. Tutors and mentors are a wealth of knowledge, readily available, and are genuinely excited to help students in their learning journey. I'm so pleased I chose CF!
