I bought a car from Cotswold Automotive on 17th June, which appeared to have a clear MOT and I was assured verbally on my asking several times that the vehicle was in good running order. However, an inspection following purchase by my own garage revealed a number of faults, including two MOT failure issues. My attempts to reach agreement with the dealer to deal with the two MOT failure issues, while I would pay my garage to remedy the other issues, has met with stonewalling and then silence from Cotswold Automotive, who have made no attempt to rectify the situation. They only said that if I wasn't happy they would give me a refund and they would sell the vehicle to someone else. This was not an acceptable resolution, as I want to pass the vehicle on to my son once he passes his test and my usual car is back on the road. They said that the demographic they target in the second hand market is first time buyers. Either they made no attempt to inspect the vehicle (which they stated was taken by them as a PX) before advertising it for sale, or had inspected the vehicle, knew of the faults but failed to advise me of the issues which would need repair. Either way, they fall well below an acceptable standard in terms of customer service, and may have knowingly sold a vehicle which they knew was not roadworthy. I could not recommend them to another prospective customer, and would urge anyone looking to buy a vehicle from them to have it inspected by their own garage or the AA (or similar) before committing to purchase.

The 1 star reviews you are reading are from people who have no understanding of how businesses work and the fact that sometimes they can have banking issues that cannot be sorted immediately.
We saw a car on their website and contacted them about it. We are from Devon so had a way to travel, so they did me a walk around video and sent me the service history. We travelled one Saturday morning to view it, met Mike and he was really professional. He even messaged me on our journey to make sure all was ok and to see if we needed anything. We viewed the car and decided to go ahead. Bought it back to Devon but unfortunately had a few issues with it( it was 15 years old) . As it was my son’s first car we decided to return it. They were very professional and said they understood and they would take it back no problem. We returned it to them and Mike came in on Easter Sunday to receive it!! They issued us a credit note and said it would take up to 14 days for a refund, which is kind of industry standard. After 14 days we hadn’t received the money so we contacted them. They apologised profusely and said they had a banking security issue with a previous payment from another customer that had frozen their bank account. As you can imagine this caused them massive problems and a real awkward situation with their customers that wanted to pay or had put deposits down on cars. We spoke to them and they were really professional and apologised and said they were doing everything they could to get the problem sorted and were taking a real battering from people that didn’t understand the issue and were not giving them a chance to sort it out. They were very honest. I looked at their previous reviews before this incident and everyone was giving them 5 stars so we trusted them. They kept in touch with us and called us as soon as the problem was sorted and refunded us.
All the people that have slated them should retract their statements and realise they should have given them a chance instead of going straight onto give a negative review. I can honestly say this company is genuine and will give you a fantastic customer service. Just remember everyone has problems now and again, it’s how you handle them that matters and we are not all perfect ; just speak to people and give them a chance. Well done Cotswold, keep up the great service 💪❤️💪

This company is an honest company.
I was owed £4000 from a refund and I spoke to Jayden and Mike about what was going on with the banking issues.

They explained to me that the bank account had an issue but it would all be sorted by the weekend. Today I got my money transferred back and a follow up phone call apologising for the delay.

Mike and Jayden have been nothing but professional throughout and seeing some of these reviews is just so unfair.

This is a genuine company ran by genuine people, just give them the time to reimburse and they will. Once that happens you need to come on here and tell others as taking this company down with knee jerk reviews is really not fair when the administrative issues that they faced, were outside of their control.

Awful dealership sold a broken car and taking months to pay for it trying to avoid it! Don’t buy a car from them

I bought a car from Cotswold Automotive August 2025.it was faulty and returned within 2 weeks of purchase for repair. They gave the car back and the fault had not been repaired.After many ignored emails and telephone calls they agreed to take the car back in September.They said they would give me a full refund once I had given them the car and the V5. Once I had done that no replies to emails and calls so took them to court and they court ordered them in January to pay me £4300 which was the cost of the car and the court costs.They have decided to ignore the court and have still not made any contact with me or paid me.This company have resold the faulty car last year and are still refusing to pay me despite a court ordering them to. The Bailiffs are now making visits to the business to get my money back although none of the cars sold by this company are owned by them but other garages.I can only assume after a court telling them to pay me that they are unable to give me the £4300 that they do not have the funds.BE VERY CAREFUL HANDING OVER YOUR MONEY TO THIS COMPANY.

The gentleman that helped us on the day (26th October 2025) was brilliant, we did not realise we had to make an appointment, but allowed us to view the car we were interested in anyway. We took it for a test drive, he answered any questions we had about the vehicle and drove away that day, much to the delight of our daughter (1st car) and we have not regretted it since, the car is immaculate and a fantastic drive. The service from Cotswold Automotive was fantastic, hassle free and highly recommended. Our son is now learning and we are keeping an eye out to see if we can again purchase from Cotswold Automotive.

I bought a car from this company two years ago for my nephew. Was very impressed at the time and the car has been great, so last month when I was looking to change my car, I checked their website.

Last week I took delivery of my new (4 year old) Mercedes. An excellent example, with full history, and I am very pleased with it.

As last time, Mike the salesman was great, and they even delivered the car for me.

I thought that to take notice of them was very short sighted.
I went to view a few cars that they had for sale and really was not impressed and as for the salesman, he really couldn't be bothered weather he sold a car or not.
Cars were left dirty.
Did not leave a good impression or give confidence.

Went down to buy a motor from the guys at Cotswold Automotive and couldn’t of asked for a more hassle-free experience. I knew exactly what I was paying for, can be easy to forget that you’re not buying a brand new car sometimes but I think iv had an absolute steal from these guys at a great price. Car has been running fine for a few months now. Even had a lovely courtesy call from my sales manager Mikey a week after to see how the car was going. Would definitely use again in the future.
