Refused their 'local insurance' as sounded dodgy - on returning the car without any damage at all, they forced us to pay for pre-existing damage and wouldn't let us leave, as we were some distance from the airport in the middle of nowhere, until we yielded.

They will scam you
Worst car rental experience ever. Unwelcoming and slow delivery. Trying to force you to take their local insurance, and if you don't take it, they will find some already existing damages to charge you. They will threaten you if I don't pay.

Absolutely awful experience with Direct Rent
Absolutely awful experience with this company. Like everyone else I was very skeptical based on the review's I've read. I rented a car through Ryanair with Direct Rent and I was meant to pick my car up yesterday. When I arrived, admittedly two hours late, I was informed that my car was given to someone else so I'd have to get a bigger car now. I was then informed that due to company policies he was refusing my credit card as the number's we're not embossed, but not to worry, if I spend even more money on extra insurance he'd accept my credit card then. The original price of around €150 turned into around €400. The guy at the counter was felt like a badly trained scam artist. He was so pushy about it I didn't feel comfortable with signing anything with them. I then had to spend an hour in the sun sorting out another car with Ryanair, which was horrible as it was 35 degrees. I'm glad I walked away and gave my business to someone else instead.

insurance fraudsters. Direct rent-Caroutis .I rented a car on the wizzair website. I received a Logan car with a lot of scratches, dents and rust. I took a video and a photo of the car. During the return, they tried to find and pay for more and more small scratches which, according to the recording, were already on the car. They said that if I don't pay they won't take me to the airport. When I showed that the scratch was visible on the recording, they checked and find the new scratch on the car. And they did it again and again. In order not to delay the machine, I paid 300 euros for a small scratch not caused by me. On the way to the airport, the middle-aged bespectacled operator finally told me that they were running this scam as a business.
