Excellent application call guidance with Ms. Rana Faza

I did my HPP application call yesterday with Ms. Rana Faza, the bank’s home finance advisor, and was impressed by her diligence, supportive and friendly attitude, and grateful that she answered my queries and went through the different finance options that matched my priorities. I felt she was “on my side” in the process. Also I gained a better understanding of what Shariah Compliant model was being used. Thank you.

I opened a savings account with this


Don’t bother using them OakNorth is better

I opened a savings account with this bank in February 2024.

During 2024 I had a few personal difficulties and had too move around a bit. Because of this I needed to change my address a few times in order to keep my account safe. It’s seems as though Gatehouse gets upset with customers who experience difficulties and with those who need to change their address more than once. They refused to take any further payments from me and have now stolen the savings, that I have with them. I can not withdraw my funds.

If I am able to provide transaction dates, security answers, email address and current address what is the problem?

I will be giving them a call tomorrow and will not hesitate to visit them and call the police while I am there.

Useless bank

If I could give no stars I would
This bank has asked me to send statements through the post. Had to find a bank that will print them then go to the post office to buy a stamp. Then now I’m told they send them by post yet again to another branch. Very insecure. Have they never heard of pdf??
The 1 person you ring is working from home. Can never speak to a manager because conveniently he’s in a meeting not there or some other excuse
All I want is my money returned to an account I have but it seems they want to keep it
Wished I’d never set eyes on this bank dreadful bank
All the staff seem to say is sorry or I’m afraid

It’s not good enough Please don’t join this bank

Exceptional Service from Shazia Essa – Highly Knowledgeable in Islamic Mortgages

I first reached out to Shazia Essa a year ago for advice on an Islamic mortgage, and she was incredibly helpful from the start. She patiently explained everything in detail and provided valuable guidance. When I was ready to proceed, I emailed her, and she promptly booked me in for a slot.

From there, Shazia made the entire process smooth and efficient. She handled my application quickly and professionally, ensuring everything was done correctly. Her deep knowledge of Islamic finance, combined with her excellent customer service, made the experience stress-free. Obstructive and delayed service

I am still awaiting a withdrawal which I requested 5 days ago from my so-called 'Easy Access' account. Gatehouse are insisting that the nominated account to which I have requested the withdrawal is authenticated and have sent out a code in the post. However, my account has been authenticated previously and there has been no change. I am therefore of the opinion that this is simply a delaying tactic. All deposits into my account have been made from my nominated account and no attempt has been made to validate my nominated account through the Confirmation of Payee service which they state on their website is usual practice. Absolutely ridiculous! They are very slow to respond to emails or secure messages. Extremely disappointing service.

04/02/2025 Still awaiting the withdrawal I requested on 29/01/2025 and have requested daily since. No apology for the error regarding my nominated account. Just further delay. Absolutely appalling service.

05/02/2025 Further delay while they deal with my complaint and complaints office closed today for training.....

I made a withdrawal from my savings


I made a withdrawal from my savings account yesterday and the funds should have been paid into my nominated account before 5 yesterday. No money has been received from Gatehouse. Apparently Gatehouse used Barclays Bank. No info available from Gatehouse. Very poor service. No updates nothing.

Home Finance Offer - Great Adviser

Alhamdulillah, great service from our adviser Ary. This is our 3rd attempt to buy a house, Ary has been our adviser for this and the previous attempt. Ary has always been helpful, particularly when the underwriters haven't been so clear on their instructions. He's been quick to come back to us and has helped to get speedy responses from the underwriters.

Last time, it took only 12 days from application to offer, and this time it was only 5 days, if you include the weekend!.

Even when we've been frustrated due to other pressures, Ary has been calm and composed and has ensured that we've provided what's necessary and he's been able to get us information or documents we needed.

Alhamdulillah, great service from Ary, and speedy work from Gatehouse Bank.

There are a couple of overall negatives, though. Their rates, as other people have also complained about, are higher than standard interest based mortgages and they don't take on any of the risk. They don't seem to have many people available to take your calls either.

Alhamdulillah, Allah knows best. They still seem to be a good option out of those currently saying they provide halal or shariah compliant finance, and, In Shaa Allah, once that market has grown and it costs less for these companies to provide us with this finance, the rates may be as competitive as anyone else.

May Allah guide us all and accept our efforts.

Efficient Service

Always found the bank efficient and easy to use. Their rates are generally good and when an account matures, they put the balance in a comparable high paying account rather than give a derisory rate, which some banks do.

We are currently using Gatehouse bank to purchase our main residence, From the initial stages when needed some advice on the home finance, our advisor Paul Jones, was there to help. He was always responsive to my questions. Paul talked us through the application process and provided us clear information while submitting the application. Even after he was always updating us with the progress. We are delighted that Paul is our advisor during our home purchase, he is highly experienced in his field.

Verification of address not clarified.

The bank has to send out a pin to verify your postal address. Very inconvenient if you opened the account for foreign travel transfers and you have to depart before their letter arrives. And if you have deposited money .. tough .. the account is frozen until it is opened by the PIN.
No mention of this in the key features.

Excellent service

Shaz Essa is a very competent advisor

This is our first time buying a house. So I do not any other experience to compare with. But so far, I am happy with the process. Our advisor is Shazia Essa who seems to have very clear knowledge regarding the whole process and was great explaining that to me. I always receive very prompt response from her and so far she has helped us to go through the process as smoothly and quickly as possible. I understand that opting for shariah compliant mortgage is more expensive than the conventional one, but at least there is an option for us who do not want to get involved with interest based mortgage. I really hope in future islamic mortgage will become more affordable and accessible for people like us. Based on my experience so far, I would recommend Gatehouse bank and Shaz to my family and friends for purchasing house.

Shaz was great but house buying process is long winded

As we are first time buyers, it is hard to benchmark how good or bad the process has been as we don't have another company to compare it to. It feels like the house buying process in general is unnecessarily convoluted.

In addition, it feels like as customers we are being penalised and paying higher rates for trying to adhere to our deen. As Gatehouse's rates were higher than going with the typical high street lenders.
But, I have to give credit to Gatehouse for filling a gap/niche in the market for Muslims that is not being done by many others at this moment in time.

Having said that all of that, we had Shaz as our Home Finance Advisor and she is clearly very knowledgeable in this field and this was evident from our dealings with her throughout the process. So rest assured that if you are dealing with Shaz then you are in safe hands.

WORST BANK FOR ISLAMIC MORTGAGES

So the reason for me to come here on a trust pilot and check the reviews was i have been in with this bank for a long while. I have multiple properties and i just wanted to try and do the right thing by start switching with islamic mortgages. This is the worst bank by far and most annoying of all lenders i have ever came across. I have all the documentation , all in order. They had been asking and asking and asking so many questions which are unnecessary and irrelevant. I have had many conveyancing, auction buys and remortgages, Hmo’s, flat, multi unit buildings but never came across so stupidly annoying lenders like this.
I am so glad i haven’t came to them for any of my auction buys or else i would have been lost out thousands of pounds.
There is a due diligence needed to be done , i understand but they been asking me for each and every documents for my other properties like they are giving me the mortgage against them. No other lenders does that. They made nearly impossible for me to go ahead with them but as i am already half way and after submitting all them documents, i am just putting up with it. But the lesson learnt. I will never ever will try and go with this bank in future. Islamic bank supposed to be easy, accessible and cost effective and what gatehouse is doing is all the opposite of that.
Very high rates , whole process is annoying as they overwhelm you with constant documentation requests again and again and they are literally unnecessary. Their underwriters are very unnecessarily harsh and have no sense of understanding of the mortgages. If i had not paid for the application and valuation, i would have backed out in a heartbeat and never would have gone ahead with them in a million years.
Mortgage advisor is rana, she is helpful with things but the whole set up and requirements set up by the bank itself is terrible.
Please Avoid this torment !!!!!!!!
