Great collection of newspapers and magazines all in one place, especially useful when travelling

I signed up for Readly’s free 3-month trial, used the app twice to read two magazines, and decided it wasn’t for me. I cancelled the subscription and genuinely believed it had been cancelled. Despite this, I was later charged £12.99.
This charge is a big deal for me. I already struggle to make ends meet with the cost of living, so an unexpected payment like this really matters. I contacted Readly twice, explaining that I don’t use the service and asking for a refund and for my account to be deactivated.
Both replies I received were identical copy-and-paste emails stating that they don’t offer refunds and that I “didn’t cancel the subscription.” There was no effort to investigate, no understanding, and no empathy at all.
This company seems far more interested in taking money than treating customers fairly. Very poor customer service and a really disappointing experience. I strongly wouldn’t recommend Readly.

A world of information and entertainment in one place. Easy to navigate, back issues available for all magazines and the ability to share with the family. All for less than the cost of a daily newspaper. Several of which are included. I am very happy with this app and am happy to recommend Readly UK.

Absolutely love Readly, I get to read magazines i would not necessarily purchase. My local newspapers weekly, National papers daily and all my magazines on favourites so just pop up on my library when newly released. Well worth the money.

Fantastic value for money at £7.99 per month. Not so good at full price. I have been able to read all my motorcycle and car publications in one place and no paper to get rid of. Previously I was buying the paper magazines at full price (6-7) per month.
I am going to continue with Readly for the near future.

The app is quick and easy to use. The range of publications is amazing. Local and national, specialist and general, for all ages and interests. It is fantastic value and like spending time in the magazine section of a newsagent but actually being able to read at length anything that catches your eye

Readly is one of my most valued apps, providing easy access to the latest newspapers, and to a number of useful magazines that I enjoy - British archaeology, Smithsonian, kitchen garden, BBC good food and radio times to name only a few. I find it is easy to navigate and read, and there is a bookmark to save articles or pages. Wonderful service with a good variety of newspapers and magazines to explore.

I originally found Readly through the Lidl app I think and took out a subscription in order mainly to access foreign language newspapers and magazines in a number of areas of interest.
I find I read a couple of UK newspapers daily plus during the week a variety of magazines, mainly in English due to lack of time more than anything else. I am not very interested in the suggestions that are sent over in emails though appreciate from a marketing point of view why Readly do this.
It certainly is a good value way for me to keep up with the news and be able to read a lot of very interesting magazines that I would not be otherwise able to access or if I could would have to pay a lot to buy them!

Been a customer since 2016. Likely spent over £1,000 in membership since then. Cancelled last year when price kept creeping up. Received a free trial to come back but I cancelled before the trial was over. I placed the reminder on my diary and removed it once cancelled. Readly are stating I haven't cancelled and have charged me for nearly a year of membership. I can see numerous reports online of others who were sure they got to the final page of cancellation yet the membership continued. No email from Readly stating I was being charged either after the free trial ended. I appreciate they are allowed to do so but seems unethical. I emailed the Readly team who did provided me with a partial refund but didn't respond to my further emails. I emailed the team and the CEOs asking for the email for their legal team as I will begin small claims court proceedings should the remaining months not be refunded. No reply. @Readly can you please confirm your companies house number is 087050571 and address is Chapel Street, Warwick, United Kingdom, CV34 4HL? I'll be filing with the small claims court.

Update: Readly posts on here saying they have offered a solution. This is not true. They have only offered a partial refund. They refuse to give me their Companies House number and address in the UK. The Ts and Cs they have given me only list their Swedish address.
@Readly- I'm going to post everyday on Truspilot with a one star review until you either refund me the rest or confirm your UK address for legal proceedings. Can you confirm your address is above and the email for your legal team is legal@readly.---?

Update- still no answer regarding legal address or email. I have now reported Readly to Action Fraud, Trading Standards, and the CMA.
Per the other helpful reviews on this page where others have been caught in subscription traps, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 has been put in place to stop these traps. Under this legislation businesses are required to tell consumers when a free trial becomes charged and then let them know every 6 months. Readly didn't do either. My understanding is that is isn't fully enforceable until 2026 but you would think businesses with good ethics would implement these changes and work on providing value for customers so they stay rather than trapping them.

Made a Subject Access Request on the 28th of December and no reply. My next step is to report to the ICO for failure to comply with GDPR legislation.

Update- after nearly 2 weeks Readly has replied to my Subject Access Request email stating they have a month to reply. They don't seem to understand they have a month from the initial request but at least they have replied after a month of ignoring my emails.
They tried to have my reviews removed from Truspilot saying they were defamatory. Trustpilot told them no. Incredibly frustrating they would make that effort instead of responding to my emails and offering me a refund.
It is a factual account of poor customer service and failure to notify customers they are in a paid membership. I just want the refund of my remaining £64 but Readly have refused. It is a real shame. This could have been sorted with one email and acknowledgement that there could have been a failing on their side for a customer of nearly 10 years who has spent £1,000 with them.

Still refusing me the rest of my refund. Can see 3 plus reviews in last week alone on Trustpilot about customers in a Readly subscription trap. Also continuing to refuse to validate their UK address so I can proceed to Small Claims Court. Only give me their Swedish address. When I tell them they have to have a UK address to operate in the UK, they ignore me.
Additionally, I've signed up for the Libby app via my local library card. It is free and has all the same magazines. Can't believe I was paying £12.99 a month when there is a free app out there.

Extremely poor customer service. I never leave reviews, but I felt compelled to rate this business. Unfortunately, it felt as though Readly was only interested in money rather than providing genuine support or caring about people. I would suggest looking elsewhere for a similar service.

Took out a subscription in March 2025 and cancelled it within 10 minutes as is my right to cancel.
The cancellation was accepted and I still have the emails confirming the above.
For some interesting financial benefit to yourselves, you've helped yourself to my account 9 months later in Dec and Jan 2025.
Perhaps you can explain who in your company is dipping into people's accounts and why???

I cancelled my subscription, but for some reason it didn’t go through. I contacted the customer service who essentially had the attitude of, we have your money now so unlucky, your subscription is cancelled from next month. Seems like I made the right decision cancelling if that’s the companies approach.
