Incomplete Order, No Notification, and No Accountability from Horizon Hobby

I placed an order with Horizon Hobby that included two related items, a vehicle and a motor intended to be used together. The motor shipped immediately, while the vehicle remained on backorder for several months with an expected ship date shown.

At no point was I notified of any issue with the vehicle. After waiting months, I logged in myself to check the status and discovered the item had been discontinued and would not be fulfilled.

This created a situation where the motor I purchased specifically for that vehicle was no longer usable for its intended purpose.

When I contacted customer service, they acknowledged that I should have been notified, but ultimately refused to provide any resolution. They repeatedly cited a strict 30 day return policy, even though their own delay and lack of communication prevented me from acting within that window.

Their policy does not address backorders, cancellations of open orders, or customer notification requirements in these situations. Despite that, they applied it rigidly and declined to make any exception.

The end result is that Horizon Hobby cancelled part of my order months later without notice, and then refused to stand behind the rest of the transaction, leaving me with a product I purchased in good faith but cannot reasonably use.

Customer service was dismissive and unwilling to escalate beyond scripted responses.

I would not recommend doing business with this company based on this experience.

Good and Bad

Great products... horrible customer service!

Purchased a new radio that failed within 1-week. Dealing with customer service is worse than pulling teeth.

I'll update this review if and when HH step-up and sort our the issue.

Horizon is Awesome

The quality & availability of products at Horizon is excellent. I order for my Grandson & they are always happy to help. I hate getting the wrong product & disappointing him. They make sure I get what is compatible. I ordered a plane as well as two batteries & within 8hrs I received an email stating my order had been shipped. I couldnt believe it.

Before I found Horizon, I ordered a plane he wanted from someone else. The plane came broken. I called & they sent one but that was also broken. They told my husband how to fix it. The plane itself was very cheaply made & design very shoddy.
Since someone at our RC club recommended Horizon we've bought everything thru them.

The CHAT is also helpful & if you need further help they will give you a live person. Their support behind the products are outstanding. I have had a few issues with orders but they take care of it immediately. They also save me money by giving 20% off batteries i buy because I am in the rewards program. They have a tiered rewards program. Since i am buying more product why not save money too?

Their shipping is free if you spend over $99. It arrives very well packaged & intact, on time or even early.
Horizon Hobby stands behind their name & product.

I had questions, they had the answers

I've been doing business with Horizon Hobby for over 5 years now and have had great success with customer service and tech support, these people address my concerns and questions with a friendly attitude and great communication skills.
Every issue has been resolved in a timely manner, simply put they walked me through my stuff and we got it figured out and, in this day, and age that's a real pleasure.

They simply and quite literally ignore my repeated email and go out of their wy to ensure you can't call them - no number phone number available. Update following company's reply - you would not reply to any email but the first. All subsequqnt emails have been ignored. You provided no attempt to rectify the situation like replacing the kit that was shipped incomplete! I hope to be able to update this review further with a more postive outcome.

We are sorry that you felt you were ignored at any point. This is not our intent. After reviewing the case. It does appear that the emails were answered, but the outcome may not have been desired. Unfortunately, the product and its parts have been discontinued for a while now and are no longer available. As the product was originally released nearly 20 years ago, it is very difficult to maintain inventory and support for items of that age.
Due to the age of the product and very limited resources available for it, there are very limited options for further for assistance. We understand the frustration and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

unos incompetentes, pedi un scx30 y bateria a finales de enero con entrega a principios de marzo, viendo que no llega me pongo en contacto con ellos y me dan fecha de entrega aproximada para finales de julio (5 meses) , estoy muy indignado con esta empresa

Claimed was in stock and then backordered after I ordered.

I placed 2 orders with Horizon Hobby for some RC Crawlers. I recieved 1 order and half of the second order. I waited a couple of weeks and the rest of my order never shipped even though the Crawler was listed in stock, and was even on sale. After 3 weeks without shipping I contacted them and asked for a refund for the part of my order that hasn't shipped. Instead of a refund they emailed me to inform me my order is now backordered until August. I originally ordered in February and it is March now. I made sure the item was listed as IN STOCK when I placed my order. If it was backordered I would not have ordered. I want my money back. I will attemt to dispute this through my credit card company.

Edit: Horizon Hobby reached out to me through email and offered to cancel my order. I accepted and my order was canceled. I appreciate them making things right, but I wish I would have just gotten my RC truck as ordered, and not had to go through all the extra issues and drama.

Over selling

first of all i hate not being able to talk with someone to determine what I need. just got off a chat trying to determine what simulator to order. They kept wanting to sell me what I didnt need. i.e. the full version including many planes as i only needed one helicopter. They have a verson called the demo but he could or would not tell me if it has limitation as demos usually do.

RealFlight is offered in a couple software packages, the Full version, with over 300 Aircraft, and a Trainer version with 6 beginner-level aircraft. These can be purchased with additional hardware packages that provide controllers and/or wireless connection solutions.
We do not offer the simulator with just one single aircraft as that would require over 300 independent software packages.

Since your first contact with us, one of our RealFlight Support Agents has reached out to you with more information and provided steps to get started with a trial version that will allow you to try the simulator and decide if it's right for you. If you have any further questions or need help installing and running it please reply to his email and we'll be glad to help.

May not honor the marked warranty

I purchased a fuel pump in Canada from my local hobby store Great Hobbies about December 9. It is a HAN155 a Hanger 9 product from Horizon hobby.
Short story, it broke on the first use and due to the xmass holidays and the product being clearly marked with a 2 year warranty I took about 60 days to return it.
Great Hobbies refused to replace it and sent me to Horizon Hobby in the USA. Horizon Hobby sent me their Canadian representative Hi-Performance Distributors. The reply I got from Mary Johnson at HPD "was the Hangar 9 warranty policy, the coverage period is confirmed as 30 days" even though the product is boldly and clearly marked as having a 2 year warranty. When I pointed out Canadian law does not allow companies to promote a warranty they they will not honor she never replied again. WOW is all I can say for HPD.

Today March 17 a replacement pump arrived from Horizon Hobby in the USA. So credit is due to Horizon for honoring their marked warranty and it seems that integrity is still alive and well at Horizon Hobby USA. Good for them for making it right.
Based on the long path it took to get warranty support there is a opportunity for improvement at Horizon in their customer service process for Canadian customers.

Terrible support, poor returns

They are slow to ship, their return policy is terrible and the support experience is glacial.

Killer Customer Service

Horizon has a dedicated customer support team that genuinely shares their customers' goal to achieve the best RC experience possible; to get the richest experience out of this hobby. The company as a whole achieves this by consitently having a wide selection of RC products (of which a near-infinite amount exists) at competitive prices. I suppose any warehouse could achieve this, but what sets Horizon apart is their approach to customer service. I literally received a phone call to personally thank me for a recent purchase and confirm my enrollment in, and understanding of, their rewards program. When requested, the service rep on the phone gave me his personal company email. Being very new to the hobby at the time, our email exchanges quickly evolved to me asking questions about EVERYTHING concerning the hobby, from specific parts availability, to company history, to future product launches, to advice on which upgrades to select. This is genuinely much more than I would ever expect from an RC company. It speaks to the passion their team shares with their customers, a passion which becomes obvious at every interaction. This alone has me shopping directly at Horizon first, before I begin to see if what I need is available elsewhere.

Thank you Horizon team, you have a customer for life.

Horizon Hobby is my Go-To for my Eflite Airplanes, Parts and Advise. I like that I can not only order from the website, but that I can order from them through my local hobby shop BayShore Hobbies . Thereby supporting that local small buisness. Product support is Excellent! Whenever I have questions or need advise about any of their numerous products, they always E-mail me in short order. Since I got into the hobby over the last 5 years, I have always been happy with them.

Preordered a mini kraton

Preordered a mini kraton. Preorder means your first in line to receive product. Item released on the 12, it is now February 17th and still dont have the product. Never ordering anything from them again

Customer service

I have ordered a couple of products from them almost 2 weeks ago and still haven’t received them , they sent out the products through FED Ex smart post . Have tried to get the shipping problem corrected through both Fed Ex And Horizon Hobby . And all I get from the both of them is a bunch of BS . I’m a 77 year old man who is trying to buy a gift from them for my grandchildren . Horizon hobby has the poorest customer service I’ve ever seen and Fed ex service isn’t any better . This is just a warning to stay away from them both . And run away from them as fast as you can.

Beware of their gift card fraud

Their website said online giftcard should be emailed to me within 15 minutes to 24 hours. It has been 4 days and I still not receive mine yet. I contacted their cs and he said he will get back to ASAP then went cricket. I requested to cancel and he refused it due to their policy. Basically they took my money without delivering the good then deny my cancellation. This is a fraud, i’ll file a chargeback with my bank.

Discontinued all lines of rc cars I bought sold them after discontinued without warning never respond t messages or emails

They never returned emails or respond they discontinued all the lines of RC cars I have bought from them unable to repair any of them have problems from the beginning they wouldn’t do anything but the hobby shop did thank god switching not to mention one of the cars I bought was a discontinued model that no one let me know about shame o hobby ship and them I’ll be switching to team associated in the future

Horizon Hobby will typically continue to carry parts and accessories for RC Cars after they have been discontinued. At some point though we will place a final order for parts when the sales projection cannot support future orders.
It's also important to keep in mind that when an otherwise popular car is discontinued, we might have a new version in the works that adds features and performance and shares a large number of parts with its predecessor.
In any event, if you are in need of parts for an older model we suggest reaching out to our Product Support team who can help with locating stock or alternate parts.

I have sent emails to these guys about getting parts for my trucks and warranty stuff on my trucks and batteries they will respond 2 time and won't respond to anymore emails I'm done with horizon hobby for good now
