I can’t speak highly enough of Theresa, Jasmin and the team at JWD when dealing with our house sale & purchase.

When I said we wanted to complete before the end of March for Stamp duty saving (house chain agreed on 15th Jan), they managed expectations because of the number of sales generally in progress in the U.K, but pulled out all the stops to make it happen. Which we were ready by 28th Feb.

Then when the first time buyer in the chain (our buyers, buyer) advised on the Monday before exchange and completion on the Friday, that they hadn’t closed their first time buyer ISA account, it was the team at JWD who came up with a solution, as the other solicitors didn’t have a clue where to start. As a result, saving the sale and ensuring we completed on time.

I'm sorry but I cannot recommend this firm of solicitors, unless you are looking for a "paint by numbers" approach to family law. You will not get any added value or great insight despite the large costs you will accrue. Ultimately, you are paying for someone to check forms that you will complete yourself to ensure you present things correctly but, in reality, you can do this yourself for far less money. I'd be very surprised if the final outcome is changed by engaging with J W Davies.

At the end of the day, aspects of my case that I would have expected to be addressed as a matter of course in correspondence with the other party, were not completed. When challenged I was told there would be additional costs, despite having been charged for correspondence on the matter. When I said I would not pay these charges, I was told debt recovery action would start immediately - no independent view was offered of my complaint. I also received charges for a period of time during which I had told the company I did not want them to act on my behalf.

I used J W Davies in 2016 to purchase 2 garages / storage units for my business. I was informed that completion was done successfully and that formalities were concluded at that time.
However , to my surprise having recently liquidated my company and as part of the process had to transfer business assets into private hands , I found out via another solicitor that one of the title deeds did not transfer over to my company at the time of the original purchase, i.e. in fact as far as the land registry were concerned I did not even own it !!
Concerned that I may loose my asset to the crown post liquidation, I contacted J W again to notify them of the error for them to resolve.
The response and accountability was shocking , they don't want to deal with it or even respond !
I am now finding myself paying additional solicitor costs to try to resolve this if I can at my own cost , in addition I had to pay liquidators insurance against risk of loss of assets , again at my expense.
I am now taking formal legal action against JW against professional negligence and damages for the cost incurred to me from their poor professionalism.
Plse don't touch these guys with a barge pole , they won't deal with my issues they had caused themselves and when I escalated to the head of conveyancing they wont even acknowledge the problems or even respond.
As far as I am concerned, don't put trust in them, they don't deserve to be in business how they treat their own clients !

Having been with this company for two years trying to finalise the sale of my house, I have been passed to several different solicitors in the conveyancing team all of which have not fulfilled their role in this capacity. Lost emails non recorded phone calls wrong documents given and total lack of communication with the buyers solicitors. Hope I never have to sell a house again if this is what they are getting paid for!

Amazing team from start to finish. We are first time buyers and our house purchase was a nightmare from the start - A couple divorcing and selling their home. Natalie Summer, jasmin and the team were helpful from the start. Natalies communication and advice was constructive and precise. She kept me informed and was very patient with me and my questions.

They all tried making the process as smooth as possible given the circumstances as well as being in the middle of a pandemic.

I am an NHS worker and have been through a terrible amount in the past year working through a national pandemic and Natalie helped me so much.

It took us 6months to complete - the day before our mortgage expired but we couldn't have got through it without the whole team.

Their prices are compatible overall a good solicitor firm to go with when purchasing a house.

We used JWD for both sale and purchase of our home and were very impressed with their service, particularly that of our conveyancer Theresa. Our transactions were completed on some very challenging timescales and we felt that the advice we received from Theresa throughout always kept our best interests at heart whilst prioritising the progression of the transactions. It was not always easy to get hold of Theresa by phone but this was never a problem as she was very responsive to email and always prioritised the questions and issues that were needed to progress the sale/purchase. If you are comfortable corresponding primarily by email, we could not recommend the services of JWD more.

I cannot thank John W Davies enough for the level of service I received during my house move. Rhiannon was hard working and efficient. She went over and above to get our house sale through. Our buyers solicitors were very hard work and she put in extra hours, ringing at all times of day to try and get an answer. I would not use anyone else in the future. Terrible. Use trainee solicitors without enough supervision, hence cheaper than others. Sent out wrong documents, documents with mistakes, forgot to complete other documents, requested their own documents from us claiming they didn't have them even though they were sent to us by them, delayed the process through lack of legal advise and caused unnecessary stresses. They even failed to ask us to pay the deposit and secured funds for the sale with the wrong price of the property! Almost comical if you aren't at risk of your mortgage expiring as it's taken so long! Complaints procedure was poor with no offer to discount the service despite their mistakes, infact they were happy to admit this is their standard service.

Found a good conveyancing solicitor at last! Professional, thorough and responsive. Friendly interactions too. Great value for money. Thank you team.

A particular selling point is that you are assigned a specific conveyancer with contact details. This is particularly useful for obtaining updates and discussing issues.

Our contact was Theresa, who was really helpful and informative on the conveyancing process we built up a great rapport over the course of our purchase. In particular, she was especially helpful in transferring our documentation to another property when our first sellers pulled out unexpectedly. This efficiency was particularly welcome as it gave us much needed space to focus on offering on our new house.

Although not local to me JWD worked very well. The conveyancer assigned to me was always contactable and very helpful and friendly. Great value for money a local solicitor quoted over double the price for a purchase and sale. Once my buyers finance was sorted everything went smoothly. I would definitely recommend JWD.

We recently bought our first house with the help of JWD - specifically Theresa.

Initially, we found that communication was a bit slow and it could sometimes be difficult to get information, however I think this was due to being in the middle of a pandemic and the high volume of house sales going through at the minute. Towards the end of our process, this had hugely improved, and we were receiving responses almost instantly.

Theresa has been wonderful at pushing through our house, especially when dealing with tricky solicitors on the other end, and kept us up to date with key milestones. She also put our mind at rest multiple times and explained processes clearly as we were first time buyers.

Ultimately, our sale was quite slow (6 months), but this was mostly due to chain issues and not down to JWD - we would most definitely recommend them (and Theresa) for conveyancing.

We used JWD when purchasing our property in June 2020. Although we appreciate and understand the constraints, pressure and complications COVID has put on many businesses it is still not an excuse for the appalling service we received from JWD.

Searches were processed weeks later than we’d been told and on multiple occasions JWD “lost” paperwork we posted to them even though we sent this signed/tracked. On the last occasion this happened we kept chasing them and it magically turned up even though they had told us we’d have to print and send again. In the beginning our purchase seemed to be allocated to one trainee conveyancer but only once did we speak to Theresa on the phone about our purchase. The little communication we did have from Theresa came via email and when we had to phone to chase or enquire we were dealt with by multiple members of staff from the “client services” team all of whom weren’t familiar with our case and had to look into questions or updates.

Considering we were first time buyers there was no support or guidance provided which led to confusion and wasted time in some parts of the process on an already tight schedule.

JWD clearly have communication and logistical issues. It felt like they were trying to make the most out of the up take in house moves but at the detriment of their customer service. A distinct lack of care for their customers which is disappointing when spending so much money.

Despite the difficult conditions for everyone, John W Davies provided me with an excellent service on my recent house purchase. Although a relatively straightforward purchase, the general Covid restrictions resulted in some issues and delays for those in my chain. These were frustrating but outside of our control and commend the JWD team for keeping me up-to-speed and taking the time to fully explain the matters at hand.
All that I spoke to at JWD were helpful, but special thanks to Theresa who managed my file and who dealt with all my many queries excellently. Always professional and friendly despite my stresses.
