Avoid buying a Mini at all costs

Appalling service! From the beginning when I purchased the car and wasn’t advised on the congestion exemption certificate - which only arrived five weeks later after constant chasing to now when trying to deal with mini finance. Calls are not returned, complaints are not investigated and letters are purportedly sent but not received even though they have your email address. Staff are not trained and customer service is non existent - terrible company

Diesel in the ECU, Wiring harness

The customer service and integrity of Mini UK is disgusting. We had 2015 Mini Cooper D, full service history, 63k miles.

Apparently, there is a known manufacturing fault with the 2015/2016 cars, in that the fuel pressure sensor fails internally and slowly, over a long period of time, droplets of diesel gets sucked back down in to the electrical system. This accumulates and evententually saturates the wiring harness and finally in to the ECU. From them on, your car is toast.

Now Mini are aware of this, there are others who have had exactly this issue and yet there was no recall. The cost to replace the harness, ECU and sensors is around £4500.
Others have been offered a "goodwill gesture" In our case, we were stonewalled.

If you have a diesel Mini, and although it drives and seems perfectly fine, if you have an intermittent diesel smell in the cabin on idle, get rid of the car. Additionally, if your Mini has had quite a few owners, and there is an intermittent diesel smell, get rid of it.

I always assumed Mini was a quality brand, being part of BMW, using quality parts. Turns out, they are not, the cars are french made, nothing German about them and if you ask any garage, most will say the engines are poorly made, citing many cases of issues. The customer service is shocking, in my experience. I will never buy a Mini again.

Do not buy a mini built between 2014…

Do not buy a mini built between 2014 and 2018. There is a known by mini wiring loom manufacturing fault where washer fluid leaks and eventually rots all of the cabling and damages the electrical system, at a cost of approx £3500. Mini refuse to accept liability and sometimes offer a goodwill gesture towards the cost. This should have been a recall, not a wait until the customer is outside of warranty and see. I will never buy a mini/bmw again

Very poor, don’t use them

Very poor - I had a puncture - I was told the car would be taken to the local mini dealer the next day. 18 hours and many phone calls later i discovered it had been taken to a dealership 30 miles away. They hadn’t bothered to phone me. They hadn’t looked at the car. They hope to be able to fix the puncture in another couple of days. No urgency no customer service no way of complaining. I need car as going away and don’t know if I will get it in time. Don’t bother with them, get AA or RAC instead

Sytner mini Slough-awful

Sytner mini Slough
Appalling lack of care from them and head office.
Faded badges again and faded body parts.
They couldn’t even be bothered to reply let alone solve.
Only interested in selling new cars but no interest in aftercare.
Will never buy a mini again. Ever.
They don’t even reply to trustpilot reviews!

Mini UKs service/after sales care is…

Mini UKs service/after sales care is "AWFUL" and "ABISMAL" to be polite...New car suffered issues from day one!.Still has issues 3 months in..Back up is "VERY POOR"...BMW owned and they really "DO NOT" care for there customers once they have your money...I'm selling my New 3 month old 400 miles on the clock car Already...Will "NOT buy another nor that of a BMW....."EVER".....

Mini

Mini, BMW Warrington Garage.
Disgraceful service.
Purchasing a brand new car and the sales services is extremely poor. Never get back to you when you leave a message. Chased up with an email and still don’t get a reply. Never bought a car from mini before as I’ve always bought from Mercedes, which I can honestly say is a very good experience.

I own an F56 Mini Cooper S and I feel…

I own an F56 Mini Cooper S and I feel lied to.
I bought an F56 Mini Cooper as I'd test driven one at a dealership and it was perfect. It had pops and bangs, plenty of power and a great sound. When I bought my F56 it came without any pops and bangs, was very quiet and seemed slower, even though I'd sprung for the top model, although I wanted a manual. It's a 2L Turbo Cooper S but it's so quiet that I can't even hear what RPM I'm doing sometimes and have to look down at the gauges.

Since I have it on a contract, I can't sell it or modify it until the end of the contract so I'm stuck for another year with a boring mini. Yes. a BORING MINI.

Having returned to the dealership again to look and see if there's maybe a nice JCW version I can get with all the pops and bangs and spicy engine, I find out they're not only not doing sporty models anymore, but they've 'face lifted' the car and filled in the grill with plastic, not to mention the tax subsidised engineless garbage they're pushing every 5 minutes in the showroom.

Like most car manufacturers in Europe, this one seems to be on it's death bed as it relentlessly focuses engineless cars to satisfy some ideologically crazed politicians.

Bring out more fun, zippy, noisy, spitty, Mini Cooper S's or JCW's or this company will be done. The craze for engineless cars will die down once the truth comes out and the tax subsidies go away.

Mini UK - not safe for female/vulnerable drivers

Mini UK outsources its Emergency Services and does not care about the poor service that it provides to their customers. They left my 22 year old daughter alone late at night on a busy road to make her own way home after recovering her vehicle (for 5 days) for a puncture! Aside from why the tyre couldn't be temporarily repaired on the spot how a company can put someone's safety at risk is beyond me. Mini UK are unresponsive to my complaint which shows that they simply do not care. I certainly would not recommend anybody buys a Mini if they are concerned about what happens in the event of a breakdown

Service Plan? Waste of money

I agree with the comments regarding the service plan. I received an email from both Mini UK and North Oxford Mini, as well as the app, as the first service was due and this was confirmed in my app. Apparently these cars work on car diagnostics rather than strict schedules to determine services required. I was advised a full service was due, and called the dealership. As I had a service plan I was advised by Mini UK this would be covered, although the young lad booking me in was “very” reluctant to confirm that would be the case. When I brought the car in, the service rep admitted that normally only the oil service is usually required, however the full service was done, as that was what the car was reporting. My car had only covered 27k, and was still in warranty, yet I was charged for an “inspection” and worse still, for a brake fluid change! Why are these not covered in the plan? Nonsensical. Great car, poor customer service from BMW.

Mini repair quote was £480 pounds more expensive

I had a leaking sun roof during the Feby rains. Diagnostics and fixing was charged at £195. Immediately after the repair I noted the roof electric switches were not working. I was quoted £519.

I appealed to mini warranty cover, but was refused as it was classed as weather damage.
Raised my issue with Mini UK who got in touch with the Bristol Dick Lovett and told me there was nothing they could do as there was no cause for a good will gesture.

I took it to a local garage J’s in Westbury on Trym. It was simple, the electric box was not connected to a power source! Fixed in 30 minutes which cost me £39 .

It is very upsetting when a fairly new car leaks , one if the reasons having a car is that you don’t get wet. Now I have lost trust too.
As other reviewers have mentioned MIni UK does not reply to costumer concerns by email. It would improve confidence and trust if there was good chain of communication, with a clear hierarchy of persons in charge.
The stars are for the front desk team for always listening and trying to help.

Very disappoint

Manage to file a complaint about a garage which happens to be MINI Parklane/Battersea, the response time from both garage and MINI is extremely slow, 3 months. Have tried to escalate the matter, and no response for 2 weeks and am calling every single day. Apparently apart from the escalation team and following the complaints procedure on MINI website there’s nothing else you can do, else go to court.

I ordered my car in March expecting it…

I ordered my car in March expecting it in April. In April moved to June, then July then don't worry definitely with you by week 43. It's week 41 and I have been advised that there is now no expected date for my delivery. I know there is a chip shortage but there is no care here - Mini do not care that I have now been without a car for more than 6 months. The dealership just don't know what to say to me. They are doing their best but no one will give me an answer because Mini won't give them one. All I want is to get my car - promised to me, an agreement they entered into or some communication to give me something else for the same money as they have failed to deliver, but no - nothing. Hugely disappointed

MFS only seem to be interested in…

MFS only seem to be interested in taking your money. Once donw no longer interested.
Had loads of prior texts, emails and letters advising me that my finance was coming to an end. I only needed one.
Paid off the final settlement on line.
Not heard anything for over 2 weeks from MFS since..
How difficult can it be to follow up with a confirmation letter or email to confirm all paid or even a thank you for your business.
Shame..

Dismal customer service, poor communication

Bought a Mini Hybrid Countryman from Stockport Williams Mini in December 2020. Was assured by the sales staff and also Mini website that we would be able to fully charge the battery from a domestic socket in 4 hours.
However when we took delivery of the car we found that a full charge actually took 8 hours. Close inspection of the manual found that there are three charging levels set within the car. Low, medium and high. The car is always set at the low charge point for delivery. The customer has to increase the charge to high to get anywhere near the 4 hour charge time.
However, before doing this it is very important that you ask a qualified electrician to check that the socket from which you intend to charge the car will withstand the draw in ampage and that the electrics for your house will not trip or fuse.
I complained to Mini that this was information I should have been given PRIOR to purchasing the car….not afterwards.
Even on the high charge rate we still don’t get a full charge in 4 hours, it’s slightly over 5 hours.

The staff at Mini Stockport agreed and the salesman said he would talk to his superiors to ask if they could arrange an EV charger installation.

The country then went into lockdown.
By the time we came out of lockdown and I was able to come out of shielding our Mini wouldn’t charge at all…..every time the car was plugged in the electrics fused.
We had an electrician come out and check everything to make sure that the problem definitely lay with the car and not our electrics.

We went into the Mini showroom to bring them up to date. The salesman said he would arrange for our car to come in for a service and that someone would ring us on Monday as it was the weekend and no one was available.
On Monday a lady named Dawn rang and left a message stating that she had a message about us on her desk about a faulty charging cable??
We rang Dawn back.
She wasn’t available, someone took a message saying that Dawn would ring us back.
Another young lady did ring us back but we were actually out of the door on our way to a family funeral so couldn’t speak.
She said Dawn would ring us back.
No one rang us back.
So we went back into the Mini dealership, and this time got a date for our car to be taken in in about two weeks time.

Dropped off our Mini and picked up the courtesy car, which was disgustingly filthy, rubbish on the floor and a used water bottle in the door, in the middle of a pandemic!
Outcome of my car’s service was that the sudden surge of electricity when the car was plugged in was causing our home’s electrics to fuse.
I definitely needed an EV charging point as I was now completely unable to charge my hybrid car and had to use it in petrol mode constantly.

Mini were going to start the process of getting a quote for this, until they had that they would be unable to confirm whether they would be able to pay for this or not.
Two weeks later whilst actually on the M6 on holiday I received a call from a man who initially did not identify himself or the company he worked for.
He wanted to know if I was in as he needed to arrange for someone to visit and survey our home.
Obviously I didn’t want to tell him that we were not at home for the next week.
It transpired that he worked for the company who would fit the EV charge point.
I did check this with Mini, they confirmed that they had contacted this company and given them my details.

I would have appreciated a little heads up there Mini.

When speaking to the salesman at Mini he explained that the electrician needed to see our consumer unit and where the car would be parked.
He also said that if I knew a good electrician they could do the survey and fitting etc.
I DO know an electrician but was unaware whether he fitted EV chargers or not.
Salesman said. ‘That’s fine, you find that information out please and then let me know”.
I found out that, “no” the electrician doesn’t fit EV chargers and that it would probably be better if Mini organised this.
As requested I then tried to contact the salesman to let him know.
I rang him 6 times, he never came to the phone, was always, “In a meeting”, “Busy “ or “with a customer”
He also never rang me back.
On the final attempt my husband refused to wait for a call back so Mini hung up on him…..then lo and behold my phone rang,
Salesman immediately snaps at me and complains, “ I’m not very happy as I’ve been dragged away from a customer for this!”

After snapping at me I gave him the information he asked for. He then told me that he would make arrangements for their electrician to visit.

Their electrician has visited and an appointment has been made for the charger to be fitted.
What I do not have confirmation of is whether Mini are footing the bill for this.
The last I was told is that they’re getting a quote together.
The charger company have told me that Mini is definitely paying.
Lovely car…..awful company
Avoid like the plague.

Not fit for purpose

Very after spending lots of money on top BMWs then changing to a mini jcw first service at 6000 miles 12 months old they told me the Center exhaust box had gon so I said that’s ok I will claim on the warranty they said no the exhaust was not fit for purpose cut a long story short I still could get it done under warranty I will never ever buy another mini or bmw again very disappointed after my all the years I have used this company shame on you

ANOTHER SERVICE PLAN SCAM

Yes another customer who has been scammed into buying a mini service plan that doesn’t pay out. Purchased a plan with my new 30k Mini Countryman and never told about the mileage limitations. This week my car advised me to book in a service at 39,000 miles to be told plan only covers up to 36,000 !. Dealership not interested and Mini customer service are shocking. Matthew @ customer service if you read this you need to either change career or start retraining. Honestly just feel robbed. Save your money and buy a true British car - Nissan.

What is the point of this warranty.ive had 4 BMW minis,this will be the last .The warranty is a joke I have to pay £89 to change brake fluid.?..Thank you also of not informing me of the cost until i had booked the car in at your premises.. Transparency please ...BMW have made doing it yourself nearly impossible..THANK YOU HALFORDS FOR SAVING ME 40 POUNDS..As for my local dealership in Worcester ,apart from being too expensive,they never offer you a courtesy car or a lift home..Its miles from anywhere..Poor show all round ..
