I have been trying to contact MOhela for weeks regarding a serious error with my loans, I cannot get a representative on the phone and cannot wait for hours due to being a physician. I have given up several times after 30+ min waits on hold. Their communications are beyond confusing and disorganized. This company seems like a complete scam.

Iâve submitted 4 requests for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, starting last September ,which's my employer has signed 4 times. I have received notices stating that my employer has not signed them after they have 4 times. I call the support number where they try to loose you in a maze of messages explaining the bureaucracy of loans programs, to finally get an option to talk to someone. Except itâs another menu with no option to talk to someone. Putting in another complaint to the Department of Education, ( contradiction in terms) which signed off this company handling our loans.

Like many others- I was supposed to be automatically put on SAVE, but they put me on standard, and I can't afford my monthly payment. I recertified but noticed it's still pending and wasn't sure why. I got a hold of a human today after waiting for 30 minutes, and she agreed that something was up. She said I needed to request a processing forbearance and put me on hold. One hour later I'm still on hold and writing this. Taking notes on all of this and keeping track of dates and times in case I need the info later. I am only a few months from forgiveness and WANT TO PAY THEM so I never have to deal with them again. Irony.

Mohela has been a very unhelpful company. I applied for the SAVE plan after being on the IDR plan for a number of years through Nelnet and then Fedloan Servicing. My loans were sent to Mohela in 2023. I applied for the SAVE plan and was told it would take two months to go through. I never heard anything from them and instead they sent me a bill for $1700/month instead of the normal $11/month I normally pay. Without my permission, because I was setup with autopay, they withdrew the money from my account. I am now on hold with them for the last 20 minutes and am not looking forward to how this is going to go. NOT A GOOD COMPANY! This is not okay.

Worst customer service
Was paying ahead. Then asked over 10 times to move money paid towards upcoming bill. Was told be done within 3 days. Then 20 days later and multiple calls to customer service supervisors (at least 4!)....nothing! And then on hold usually at least 40 min. Notified bbb and still no action. I wish the government would look at this failing company customer service. If you have a choice. DO NOT use mohela.

I would give them a negative star if that was possible. These people are completely incompetent and no one knows how to do their job. They sent a bill for payments and the payment was made then sent a notice saying oops you didn't owe those so we need you to contact us . I contact them and was assured those would be applied to a new set of payments that would be due. Now two months later and multiple phone calls they still haven't been applied and now i am showing that my account is past due because they can't get their act together. There has been a new story each time i have talked to someone. Extremely unprofessional and not worth anyone's business.

My experience with MOHELA has been nothing short of a nightmare. From their abysmal customer service to shady practices, I strongly advise anyone with federal student loans to steer clear of this company.
First and foremost, their customer service representatives are consistently rude and unhelpful. Whenever I've had the misfortune of needing assistance, I've been met with dismissive attitudes and condescending remarks. It's as if they have no regard for borrowers' struggles in navigating the complexities of student loan repayment.
Even worse is their tendency to change loan terms without notification. I was shocked they had pulled my loans out of in-school deferment without a courtesy email or letter due to a discrepancy. This lack of communication is unprofessional and incredibly frustrating for borrowers trying to stay on top of their finances.
MOHELA's incompetence and disregard for borrowers' needs are utterly unacceptable. It baffles me how they can continue servicing federal student loans when they lack the basic competency and professionalism required for such an important responsibility.
In conclusion, save yourself the headache and avoid MOHELA at all costs. There are plenty of other loan servicers out there who prioritize customer satisfaction and transparency.

Awful company, received an email after making my Nov 2023 payment stating my account had been placed on an administrative hold and any payments made between Oct-Dec 2023 would count towards any future payments, well that has not happened, the payment I made in Nov 2023 should have went towards Jan 2024 and my current payment due in February 2024, they have my account as delinquent even after I contacted them two weeks ago about this same issue and it should have been cleared up then, it is not, I am fuming because this will affect my credit report with the department of education which has been excellent, Mohela is trying to place themselves on my credit report and I am upset, that is just rachet of them.

I received my October notification that payments were restarting on 12/31/23. I received that notification 4 days ago . No one that works there can answer any questions . I have called Mohela about 13 times in the last three months. Always have staff in training, don't seem to know what they are doing. On hold for over an hour most of the time. Try to use the call back function. I have already made 120 payments, since then, I have spoken to 7 customer representatives but every time they told me it will get resolved. After being put on hold for 53 minutes today. I wanted to give my feedback. They always tell you the last person you talked to noted but no resolution.

I phoned in hopes of finding out about the deadline to recertify for Income Driven Repayment plan only to hear a recorded message that I am delinquent and my account has been turned over to a collection agency. I am not delinquent because my payments are automatically deducted from my bank account. Tried to speak with someone and the wait time is 52 minutes. They need to hire more workers if that what it takes. I think I am going to contact the Department of Education and file a complaint.

I completed the necessary paperwork to have a loan placed on interest only payments for 90 days.
Mohela claimed there was a glitch in their system and promised call backs, multiple times, that did not happen.
No answers after 2 hours...
I was on the phone with them yesterday for two hours, & they kept transferring my call because I pointed out that my student loan interest has continued to grow despite me being in the SAVE plan. I was repeatedly given wrong information about my daily interest rate. I was then told that the amount of interest that has accrued is all of my interest for this month, which will drop off next month after I pay my next payment. I then made them do the math on the phone with me to show them that the amount that has accrued is over and above the monthly interest amount, and they could not explain why. It got to the point where the representatives acted like they could not calculate the daily interest rate even though instructions for doing so are publicly available on the website. I was not able to get any clarity regarding my issue. I had to get off of the phone because I had a meeting to attend at work. Otherwise, they were going to transfer me, AGAIN, to another department who, I'm sure, would act like they could not comprehend basic math and resolve my issue. I thought the save plan forgave interest that's left after we make a payment, but that is not what's happening at Mohela.

MOHELA, like Sallie Mae and Navient, is a bad student loan servicer. It engages in unfair lending practices, deceptive lending practices, and sends bogus emails and messages. It also has a pattern and practice of granting forbearance in a purposeful effort to increase total student loan debt.
I am enrolled in a loan forgiveness program, and despite sending MOHELA the required documents, they continue to charge me interest and my debt is skyrocketing. They only contact me to tell me I have a bill, but no one has ever inquired about the documents I keep sending them. Soon, my loans will be at the same levels as they were with Sallie Mae.
MOHELA IS AWFUL.
