AVOID THIS COMPANY
My dad always keeps his tech in immaculate condition so when the time came to get a new Laptop - AO suggested MTR for his old laptop. He was offered £65 (not too bad for an old laptop) and we packaged it well, took it to a post office and was told it would be absolutely fine. MTR received this with a cracked screen apparently so then dropped the quote to £10!! We made sure that his pristine condition laptop was well packaged and now once reading all other reviews see that this is an occurring issue with this company! So he has now lost out on his £65 PLUS he has a damaged laptop! Itâs an absolute con! Itâs also funny that the box we sent it in was brown but it came back in a white box. When I questioned this, we were told that they âripâ the boxes open - so the box was damaged by them!! Like what?!? Just a bunch of liars! AVOID and take your things else where!
Is this a scam?
After receiving a message asking for £75 for screen burn following a trade in, I instantly hit the Internet ro see if anyone else had experienced the same. I am amazed how many people have had the same issue.
I sent in my device knowing there were no issues, so to get a message saying the device was faulty really shocked me.
Screen burn is usually a result of an image being ghosted onto a screen usually because of high brightness and excessive time on the screen.
The grainy image I was shown was not a good enough quality to see this, and if there is screen burn, my device was always used with adaptive brightness and auto screen time off after 30 seconds, this reduces the chance of screen burn massively.
Also the company has had my device for 4 weeks, so why has it taken so long for them to tell me about this? Very, very suspicious!
I'm investigating this further...
One of the worst and most problematic experiences
One of the worst and most problematic experiences dealing with a large business.
MTR Group Limited are the company who handle the trade in discount scheme for items purchased via Samsung.com.
MTR Group's process is appalling. I really mean that. I design processes such as this for large corporates and MTR Group's is not fit for purpose. Guaranteed failure built into the process.
I've paid nearly £2,000 for 2 x Samsung mobile phones, which are now blocked and unusable, with a message stating that the buyer didn't send in a trade in device. This is not true.
I've got photos showing the stages of me packing both devices into a box, a photo of the box ready to be posted with delivery label details visible on the outside, then a Royal Mail tracking ID that shows it was delivered 2 days ago.
Atrocious, appalling, awful service.
Unbelievably dishonest
Absolute scam. I trusted the Samsung name but this was clearly a mistake. I really can't emphasise how disappointed I am with this whole affair and how differently I now view the Samsung brand.
I sent my near perfect Galaxy Note9 in as a part exchange towards a new Galaxy S22Ultra.
Nearly a month after receiving my trade in, they contacted me stating my old device had 'screen burn' and I had to pay them an extra £50. I really look after my phones and know the device was immaculate and fault free when it left me. They have said the screen burn was caused by using the display on full brightness for too long. I never used the screen above a third of its brightness setting!
They are giving me the options to pay the extra they are demanding, pay the trade in price or return the new phone. I am more than prepared to return the new phone and will be taking them up on that offer. Unfortunately that now leaves me in the position where they will return my old phone with a fault, so either way I lose.
Absolutely disgusting behaviour from a company that I have always preferred to use. This whole experience has been quite simply unbelievable for a global brand and I plead to others to NOT attempt to use this trade in service. I deeply regret my decision to buy directly from Samsung and trying to use their trade in scheme.
I recieved the "screen burn" email fromâŠ
I recieved the "screen burn" email from this company after trading in phone via samsung, stating I have to pay a £25 excess. At first I thought it must be a scam as my phone was in perfect condition. I have read from so many reviews I am not the first person to have been sent this email. It has left a very bitter taste in my mouth and I will never use Samsung trade in again whilst they continue to use this company.
Scammers and Liars.
I never leave reviews for anything however this company had the cheek to send me an email to say 'Back cover is cracked.' and expect me to pay £75 for this.
My device was in near perfect coniditon as only had it for just over a year (with a few minor finger marks on the screen but comes off with a wipe)
They've had my device for over 20 days and somehow a back cover has magically cracked.
Cheek of this company to ask for £75 for something they can't even send me 'evidence' correctly as no picture is attached to the email they've sent asking for this sum.
Samsung needs to use a different company, MTR are clearly awful and there isn't a chance i'm paying for something they've clearly done.

I got a quote for trade in on my iPhoneâŠ
I got a quote for trade in on my iPhone 11 on Tuesday. The package to send my phone to MTR arrived yesterday and I posted it yesterday. It arrived with MTR this morning and they emailed me to say they had it and they would assess it and let me know the outcome today. They Emailed me again to confirm the value of £240 was confirmed as agreed. They again emailed at 4pm to say the money would be in my bank within the next 2 hours. Iâve just checked and the full amount has been credited to my account. First class and very efficient service.
IF THINKING OF TRADING IN WITH SAMSUNG THEY USE THIS COMPANY
IF THINKING OF TRADING IN WITH SAMSUNG. THINK AGAIN....Purchased s22 traded in s20. Phone was under 2 years old and received email from recycle dept stating burnscreen. Phone was in really good condition and then to be told have to pay 75 excess to get fixed. Samsung advert to trade in didnt mention screen burn. if i knew burn screen was a thing i could have got fixed for a lot cheaper then 75. Which was confirme, by the 3rd party samsung use to trade in their phone. Plus never had a problem with screen in the whole 2 years i had phone. samsung sold phone with screens not good for purpose or scam going on. Called customer services who told me this had to be paid. Not happy with trade
Never ever use Samsung for trade in asâŠ
Never ever use Samsung for trade in as long as they are using MTR group. MTR group has no standrads about how they determine the value. There were 2 options on samsung website one for broken screen and other for not broken screen. My phone was fine while trading but due to accident I cracked my screen. MTR group now value my phone way below what was advertised for a faulty device on samsung website. No proper response to why they have undervalued the phone and no replies for emails on why they have lowered the value. Its so stressful if things go wrong and you may spend weeks not months. On top of this Samsung will lock your device
Burnt screen!!!!
I recently went for trade in to buy A Samsung s22 ultra. Sent my S9 in a perfect condition with no so called burnt screen. Few days ago I received email with picture taken with a potato where you hardly can tell anything telling that my phones screen is burnt and now i need to pay excess of 25£ . The excess is not an issue in this case but the fact that they trying to charge you for something that is entirely not your fault but the way samsung screens are made. Seams like samsung is fine with loosing customers over some "scam" I would like to hear what trading standards have to say about it .thanks for great service
I read what people were saying only toâŠ
I read what people were saying only to find out that it was actually true. My phone was actually in good condition it even had the plastic protection still on the back with the serial number, no marks no screen issues only to be told that i need to pay £25.00 as I have wait for it ....Screen burn!!!! my phone had NO screen issues at all. total rip off why are samsung allowing these crooks to scam their users? Next time I will use CEX at least you know what you will get back.
MTR are conning people with bogus faults
Phone was pretty much perfect and had been inspected the previous day by CEX for a trade in price - no faults found. The price was just a tad more that Samsung but I felt it would be safer dealing direct, sent phone off, after a week I was advised it had screen burn and needed to pay a £25 excess direct to MTR, they had attached an extremely low res image which was impossible to make out. Challenged them but no response. Complained to Samsung who then sent an attachment, this was another low res image of the Samsung logo!! Now using bully boy tactics saying new phone can be locked unless I send the £25, absolute disgrace. Screen burn is very rare and you would need to leave the screen with images for days on end to burn a modern screen, BUT it is the most common "fault" found by MTR, the fact they do not engage and Samsung do not want to know leaves you high and dry, absolute con. DO NOT USE, trade in over the counter, probably get a better price anyway.
ABSOLUTE CON ARTISTS *AVOID*
ABSOLUTE CON ARTISTS
Avoid at all costs! Offered me £165 for phone. Phone sent to them in IMMACULATE condition, not a mark on it as always been in a case. I was then offered just £75 because of an âapparentâ light on the screen. I have pics of the phone just before sending and the phone was mint! I declined the offer (obviously) and I am still waiting for the phone to be returned. The phone that they have damaged to con me out of money. They are hoping people canât be bothered and just accept their ridiculously low offer! Iâd rather chuck it in the drawer than be robbed by this company.
MTR are a SCAM
After trading in my old S8 I received an email from MTR group saying there was screen-burn and a request for a £25 charge-back. The phone was in extremely good condition when it was sent however they are stating there is screen-burn of the notification bar of the phone that I traded in. However, even in the extremely low-resolution image they provided as evidence, screen-burn could not be seen.
The fact that an image of such awful quality was provided as 'evidence' is very concerning and reflects on MTR's terrible service. It has become evident that this is a tactic MTR have tried to use on many Samsung customers who may not have known otherwise to scam them for their money.
Sent my Samsung S8 as part of theâŠ
Sent my Samsung S8 as part of the Samsung Trade-In scheme. Received £80 plus £150 bonus payment. Really easy to do and received the money within 24 hours of them emailing to say my phone passed the inspection! From start to finish the whole process took less than 1 week. Really impressed!

I recently traded in my phone through Samsung recycle after purchasing a new one with mobile direct. The service was excellent I received the return pack with prepaid postage labels. I sent the phone off and the next day I got a email to say the phone had been received and was getting checked. After a few hours I received another email to tell me my phone had passed the quality checks and funds would be transferred to my account that day. I received the full quote without any excesses to pay. I can't fault the service at all.
I cannot give a lower review not thatâŠ
I cannot give a lower review not that they care. absolute scam.
MTR is a company to avoid
I bought a Samsung tablet from ao.com rather than an alternative supplier because I could trade-in my old Samsung S3 tablet for £70. I posted the tablet complete with S pen to MTR Group Ltd. Over a period of one week MTR sent me three emails claiming that I hadn't supplied the S pen and as a result I would only receive £50. I replied to each of these emails stating that I had included the S pen with the tablet. I didn't receive any reply or acknowledgement.
I now see many others have had a similarly bad service from MTR. See, for example: reviews here, on eu.community.samsung.com, Google, mamma.com and on moneysavingexpert.com
As others have said, MTR is a company that should be avoided because they do not honour their promises and do not respond to emails.
Severe screen burn!
Traded in a Samsung s7 for a new mobile from Samsung. Received an email stating s7 had severe screen burn which included a very low resolution picture. I explained mobile was working perfectly before I sent it and asked for better pictures showing my IMEI number. They responded with a long explanation about how screen burn can occur and asked me to refer to pic previously sent. Asked for £25 to complete transaction which I paid as I couldnât be bothered going round in circles with them. Left a bitter taste as I felt I had been scammed. Seems Iâm not the only one!! Samsung should really be having a look at this trading partner before they lose any more future customers.
