MyCamper monitors messages sent via their platform
I tried to book a camper in Norway via the MyCamper website, only to find out late in the booking process that the service is offered to a narrow group and not all of European Union countries.
I reached out to the owner via the messaging feature of MyCamper to ask if there is a way to book his camper, not trying nor suggesting to circumvent the platform.
As a reaction MyCamper sent a direct message to me with an appeal not to circumvent the platform. Rather than addressing the underlying problem of extending its service to other EU countries.

Vi rejste til Lapland først i februar, og havde, lejet en autocamper gemmen MyCamper. Udlejer hentede os i lufthavnen og gennemgik bilen inden vi kørte videre. Det skal så senere vise sig, at det vigtigste ikke blev tjekket!
Vi satte kursen mod vores bestemmelsesstedet som var 3 timers kørsel. Efter ca. 1 1/2 time fornemmer vi, at vi er punkteret midt på E45. Vi kontakter udlejer, som giver os nr. til autohjælp, som er længe undervejs. Da de kommer, kan de ikke fine reservehjulet, og vi kan heller ikke finde instruktionsbogen. Autohjælp siger, at der mangler en adapter. Enden bliver, at vi bliver transporteret til vores campingplads på ladet af autohjælp, og er fremme kl. 20 (4 timer senere end først beregnet). Vi havde ingen mad, og campingpladsen lå 3 km. uden for byen.
Næste dag kontakter vi udlejer, som foreslå, at komme ned med et dæk. Det vil tage mindst tre timer. Vi forsøger endnu engang, at få reservehjulet ned, og det lykkedes. Reservehjulet er sommerdæk og har ikke samme størrelse som de andre dæk. Vi beslutter os for, at kontakte det lokale dækcenter, som kommer og skifter dæk, dog kun til sommerdæk, da vinterdæk var udsolgt, men det havde dog den rigtige størrelse som de andre.
Vi betaler for dæk og skifte.
Efter vi kommer hjem får vi tilsendt en foto af det andet dæk som også har en skade.
Nu har vi så, ved udtjekning konstateret, at det er os som hænger på den udgift, og at man mener, at vi har forvoldt skaden. Det kan vi med garanti sige, at vi ikke har!
Vi har forsøgt, at forklare, at det må være udlejers ansvar, at reservehjulet passer til årstid og størrelse.
De siger, at vilkårene er ret klare - det er lejer som skal betale for skade. MEN i dette tilfælde har udlejer ikke sørget for, at bilen var udlejningsklar til vejrforholdene i Lapland på denne årstid.
Vi giver MyCamper 1 stjerne for, deres håndtering af vores sag. Deres håndtering af krav fra lejer er ikke eksisterende!
Vi kan ikke anbefale dette firma.
Alligevel ser vi tilbage på en fantastisk tur hvor vi fik det vi rejste efter, nemlig nordlys. Samtidig mødte vi så mange hjælpsomme mennesker, som gerne ville hjælp os!

I love cars, so when our camper had an alert concerning oil level in engine I have bought oil and several times I was filling it to the right level. On one of our last overnight stays during the night awning was spread and a unexpected wind broke it into two halfs. I HAD TO PAY OVER 1200 EUR EXTRA !!!!! TO INSURANCE COMPANY, because full coverage was only 300 EUR
DO NOT USE MYCAMPER IT IS NOT SAFE for your valet

New year in a van !
We spent the last night of the year in the van. That was great. After a walk along the lake, and a bath, we found a wild place to park the van. We enjoiyed un apero and a light meal. We had a nice evening till midnight. On the morning, we went in the forest behind. Trees were all frosted, shining with the sun light. That was magical ! We followed a creek till a frozen fall. Our trip was fantastic !
Dealing with the reservation, everything was easy and well followed. The owners of the van have been very friendly. Thanks to them.

Niemals wieder MyCamper
Niemals wieder MyCamper. Die Versicherungsgebühren sind extrem hoch. Darum entschieden wir uns, die Kosten moderat zu halten und wählten Selbstbeteiligung. So zahlten wir für 4 Wochen rund 1.000 €.
Ein Schaden passierte, doch nach einem Dreiviertel Jahr erhielten wir drei Rechnungen von drei Schäden. Einer war von uns verursacht, die anderen beiden Schäden waren uns fremd. Die Versicherung nahm sich davon nichts an, denn der Besitzer des Wohnmobils hätte angegeben, die Schäden seien ein Dreiviertel Jahr vorher während unserer Mietzeit passiert und nun verlangt die Versicherung weitere 1.000 €, wobei unser Schaden natürlich korrekt ist. Für uns grenzt das an Betrug.
MyCamper reagierte überhaupt nicht auf unsere Anschreiben.

Unacceptable platform – avoids replying to escape refunds
My experience with MyCamper was infuriating and deeply disappointing.
Based on what I experienced, this platform operates in a way that feels deceptive and offers no real protection to customers.
When serious problems arise with a rental, their strategy becomes obvious:
they stop responding to messages, delay communication on purpose, and avoid engagement — all to avoid issuing a full refund.
Instead of taking responsibility, they hide behind terms, technicalities and vague explanations.
This is not professionalism. It is a deliberate attempt to escape their obligations.
What is truly unacceptable is that MyCamper keeps their service fee even when a rental completely fails.
The customer carries all the risk, while the platform keeps the money as if nothing happened.
This behaviour shows a complete lack of respect for customers and zero accountability.
If something goes wrong, you will be left alone, ignored, and at serious risk of losing your money.
My advice is clear:
avoid MyCamper.
This is not a platform you can trust — especially when large amounts of money and your safety are involved.

Avoid this company
Avoid this company — unreliable, irresponsible and unsafe for renters.
My experience with MyCamper was extremely disappointing.
The platform did not protect us, did not take responsibility, and did not support us when the vehicle we rented turned out to be unusable.
The only reason we didn’t lose the entire amount was because the owner himself admitted the mistake and refunded the money for the remaining nights.
If he hadn’t done that, MyCamper would have let us lose almost €700, because they refused to take responsibility for anything.
MyCamper kept part of the money even though the vehicle rented could not be used.
This behaviour is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of consumer protection.
When we contacted them, the responses were vague, slow and dismissive.
And later, when they replied publicly, they suddenly sounded polite and “professional”, which did not match their real behaviour at all.
Another serious issue is their review system:
If your booking doesn’t reach check-out (even if the vehicle is unusable), they block you from leaving a review.
This hides negative experiences and puts future renters at risk.
Be extremely careful — especially with large amounts of money.
If something goes wrong, MyCamper will not protect you.
You can easily lose your money, because the platform takes no responsibility for unsafe or defective vehicles.

Camping trailer experience Sweden
We booked a camper in Sweden at a very good price, nearly brand new and thought it was too good to be true. But... it was indeed! It was a very nice contact, helpful also while planning our trip, everything well equipped, clean... Then we got a little accident on a gravel road and had to leave the trailer behind. It was no fuss at all - though the mycamper insurance was no great help, the camper was insured by the most common Swedish road service. It got towed within the next days, everything was managed by the owner. Afterwards, we even got our deposit back because it was completely covered by the insurance. We had not damaged anything from the interiour. So after all we can really recommend, it was a pleasure having our trip to Sweden with mycamper

Fikk skade på min kampingvogn under utleie. Lokalt verksted har et års ventetid. Fåreslo å få dekket delekostnaden og fikse skaden selv til Omokom ( forsikringsselskapet) men de nekter . Helt håpløs kundebehandling. Bare å holde seg langt unna.

Ich habe MyCamper genutzt und bin nach meiner Erfahrung ehrlich gesagt ziemlich ernüchtert. Auf den ersten Blick wirkt die Plattform praktisch – doch sobald man ein bisschen hinter die Kulissen schaut, offenbaren sich massive Probleme.
Die Versicherungskosten sind extrem hoch, und der vorgeschriebene Selbstbehalt von 2’000 CHF ist für eine Sharing-Plattform in meinen Augen völlig unangebracht. Das habe ich leider am eigenen Beispiel erlebt: Wir hatten einen kleinen Schaden von 1’750 CHF – und mussten diesen komplett selbst bezahlen, weil er unter dem Selbstbehalt lag. Damit hat die Versicherung uns de facto gar nichts gebracht, obwohl man für sie ordentlich zahlt.
Noch enttäuschender war der Blick auf die Kostenstruktur der Plattform. Nachdem ich direkt mit dem Vermieter gesprochen habe, wurde mir klar, wie absurd hoch die Provision von MyCamper wirklich ist. Der Vermieter bekommt deutlich weniger, als man annehmen würde, während MyCamper einen unverhältnismässig grossen Anteil kassiert. Für eine reine Vermittlungsplattform entspricht das für mich keinem fairen Geschäftsmodell.
Nach dieser Erfahrung habe ich das Gefühl, dass MyCamper sowohl bei der Versicherung als auch bei den Provisionssätzen die Nutzer – Mieter wie Vermieter – stark belastet, ohne dafür einen entsprechenden Mehrwert zu bieten. Für mich kommt die Plattform so definitiv nicht mehr infrage.

Avoid this company at all costs – unsafe vehicle, misleading listing and zero responsibility.
I rented a motorhome through MyCamper in Tromsø, and what happened was dangerous, unacceptable and absolutely shocking.
When we arrived at –10°C temperatures, the motorhome had no heating, because the propane bottle was completely empty within 30 minutes of entering the vehicle. This is impossible unless the owner gave us an almost empty bottle. We even sent timestamped photos showing the empty gas indicator the moment we arrived.
In the listing photos, the motorhome clearly shows two 10kg LPG bottles. These normally last 2–4 days of winter use. Instead, the bottle we received lasted less than 2 hours, despite the owner assuring us that “it will last for the whole night”.
This was a lie — and the result was extremely dangerous.
With no heating, the motorhome became uninhabitable and unsafe.
We were forced to abandon it and spend the entire night inside the campsite toilets just to avoid freezing.
This alone should have led to an immediate full refund.
But it gets even worse:
• The water system was broken — the tank leaked everything we poured in, no matter the valve position.
• The gas alarm kept going off, indicating a possible gas leak. We video-called the owner, who simply said: “just turn it off”. Completely unsafe.
• The battery was drained, meaning we had to pay for a campsite to access electricity — even though the listing claims the motorhome is fully autonomous.
• The tyres were not suitable for the icy conditions, despite the owner’s claims.
We sent every piece of evidence: photos, videos, timestamps, messages, screenshots — everything.
It has now been 10 days, and instead of taking responsibility, MyCamper either pretends not to understand, ignores messages, or tries to twist the facts.
And here is something extremely concerning:
MyCamper does not allow me to leave a review on the listing of the specific motorhome I rented.
They simply block the option — meaning future customers cannot see what really happened.
If they are doing this to me, it is very possible they are doing it to others as well.
This means that the next person who rents this dangerous motorhome could be a family with children, completely unaware of the risks because MyCamper hides honest reviews.
This is not just irresponsible — it is dangerous.
When they do respond, they use a polite and “professional” tone.
But this politeness is completely fake.
In reality, their behaviour throughout the entire situation has been rude, unhelpful and irresponsible, ignoring clear safety issues and leaving us without support in freezing temperatures.
Honestly, even a primary school child could understand what happened from the evidence we provided.
But MyCamper keeps avoiding responsibility and refuses to return the money — not only for the night we couldn’t stay (because we would literally freeze), but also the service fee they kept for themselves.
This behaviour is unacceptable, disrespectful and shows zero care for customer safety.
I strongly advise everyone to stay away from MyCamper.
If something goes wrong, they will leave you alone in the cold — literally — and then try to make it look like it’s your fault

Misleading Website and Support
I was in a support chat with Fredrik from myCamper because I disagreed with claims from the van owner and it was my first time following the checkout process. Checkout process is designed badly, you have to accept every step one by one, if you disagree on first step you won't be able to see next steps. I reached out to support because I didn't want to accept the fuel charges by the owner listed as a fisrt step, but I was curious to see next steps. Fredrik advised me that I could go accept the steps until final step and then will still be able to go backwards and change my approvals. When I reached step 6 out of 7 and pressed to move to step 7 to my surprise the checkout was irrevokably accepted. When I told this to Frederik that I was following his guidance he said sorry for misunderstanding but there is nothing he could change now. He was sorry, I paid 100 CHF that's why one star.

Nu när fordonet är reparerat är depositionen borta och ingen möjlighet att lägga in dokumentation för att få självrisk täckt. För er husbilsägare avråder jag er på det starkaste från att använda er av denna plattform. Allt fungerar helt ok tills skador sker, då är hjälpen obefintlig.
