Based on my experience, I strongly recommend avoiding this rental company.
I experienced ongoing and unresolved issues with the return of my deposit. I was first told it could take up to 28 days. After that, the company claimed there had been a failed banking transaction. My bank confirmed that no failed transaction had occurred. When I raised this, I was told there was nothing more they could do and that I should contact my bank to request a chargeback. This sequence of excuses is deeply concerning.
The vehicle I was provided was, in my opinion, not roadworthy. It had extremely poor braking performance, tyres with insufficient air, and no engine oil. These are serious safety issues, not minor defects or normal wear and tear. The van had approximately 92,000 miles and showed clear signs of poor maintenance. I believe renting out a vehicle in this condition puts customers at real risk of injury.
Customer service was also extremely poor. The customer service phone number was consistently engaged, making it very difficult to get assistance when problems arose.
In my view, there is a high risk of losing your deposit or being charged for damage you did not cause. I have since seen many other reviews from customers reporting delayed or missing deposits, which suggests my experience is not isolated.
For safety and financial reasons, I would strongly advise choosing a different rental company.

Very disappointing experience regarding the security deposit. After returning the car on 2 January, the deposit was not refunded.
Customer service confirmed in writing they could not assist further due to their âautomated systemâ and told me to pursue a chargeback with my bank.
This should not be the customerâs responsibility. I would strongly advise future renters to be cautious and document everything.

Absolutely appalling. Donât go near them. We hired a van for Friday evening so we could move our friends to London. An hour before the van was due to be delivered they called and said they couldnât deliver it until between 1-3 pm the following day. We reluctantly agreed. At 4pm the van had still not arrived, no call from them, offices closed and no way to contact them. We had ni messages, texts or phone calls. We cancelled the van. Now letâs see if we get a refund. Like many other reviews we have not received our deposit back. (Wish I had looked on here before hiring from this company).
We are a small Scout group, and hire 2 minibuses end of July 25. Since then we have been trying to get our £2k deposit back. We are disputing a cleaning charge, and unfortunately a rear window broke when sliding door closed on the other bus, but we cannot talk to anyone. Phone goes dead after 40 mins, emails are ignored. Have been emailing and calling since mid August (4 months). Steer clear !!!!

Horrible experience
Van booked for 9.30am, turned up at 12.30pm. Could not contact anyone, no communication from them.
When we needed to leave they hadn't collected the van at the arranged time, we waited 3 hours and tried making contact by online form, email and phone to no avail. We had a 4 hour drive home and had to leave the van at the house we'd moved out of, in a private bay, and leave the keys with someone nearby! They turned up two days later! Took a security deposit that hasn't been returned after four weeks. I've put hours and hours of time into trying to make contact/get my deposit back with no luck
Horrendous people
Horrendous people. Stay clear! Hired a van back in 2023, they are now chasing me for a supposed chip in windscreen for £780! threatening to take me to court. Interested to know if they have taken others to court for "supposed" damages to vans etc....even though I understand they don't even own most of the vans they hire out anyway!

Very frustrating, I have phoned and emailed so many times to get my Deposit refund, it has been since the 3rd of September. I booked a 9âseater vehicle with Nationwide Vehicle Rentals nearly two months in advance for a critical family trip. At the last minute, they cancelled my booking, claiming there were âno alternatives available.â This left me scrambling for accessible transport during the busiest travel period of the year.
Their customer service is appalling â phone lines that never get answered even after waiting over an hour, dismissive emails, and a refusal to provide proper compensation. To make matters worse, while telling me no vehicles were available, their own website was still advertising the exact same 9âseater (Mercedes Vito) for the dates I needed. That is misleading and feels fraudulent.
A refund alone does not cover the stress, wasted time, and disruption caused. Offering a token £50 voucher is insulting when I had to face the risk of losing my trip altogether.
Nationwide Vehicle Rentals failed to deliver the service promised, misrepresented availability, and showed no accountability. I will be escalating this to Trading Standards and strongly advise others to avoid this company.

This company is the biggest fraud. I cancelled my booking and was being told will get refund back in 28days.
Nothing happend and 40days past by. I sent them many emails on reservations and customer service no response and called many times on the 0300 number which noone picks up. Then I sent final email after reading some trust pilot review and mentioned Court Action in subject and I got response and got money back.

Used them again this year had a rental for 4 months returned in September 2025 I am still chasing for the deposit of £250 they do not answer emails, phone etc . Still not returned deposit
Leaving aside that the van hired to us looked like it had been used for troop movements in an urban war zone, it was at least reliable and all the damage properly recorded.
The van was collected a day late and confirmed that no additional damage had been done during the hire period.
Almost 3 months on, Nationwide are still to return the deposit and not responding to any requests for its return.
I can only conclude the company is exceptionally poor, cannot be trusted in any shape or form and are to be avoided at all costs.
Use Enterprise instead - great organisation - avoid Nationwide.
