Quality product and service
My family has been dealing with Obasan for several years (approximately 5). We began by looking for a quality, durable organic mattress for our newborns. The ease of dealing with the company made the experience of welcoming twins into our homes easier. Our minds were set at ease knowing they were spending their early years sleeping on a mattress that was healthy and safe.

Fast forward 3 years and we decided we would look for a healthy option for our own mattress and after many questions, answered thoughtfully and patiently by the Obasan's sleep experts, we found a suitable solution. I look forward to sleeping in my bed, as opposed to a hotel bed now.

Another two years later, it was obvious, despite the pandemic, who we would entrust with our twins' next set of mattresses (and platform beds) as they outgrew their original. The experience with them has been nothing short of stellar.

The crib mattresses have now found new homes, in perfect condition. This is truly one of the easiest decisions I have made, after my thorough research at the outset. This should be an easy decision for most people.

Obasan is our favourite mattress by far and love that it is made locally in Ottawa too! We started off with an Obasan mattress for ourselves (2 adults) and one child and now after 7 years of using them, we have one for every member of the family. Much more comfortable sleep having custom zones for each of us. I used to get too hot in bed but with the Obasan mattress material being so breathable, my body could dissipate heat more easily and now I am much more comfortable at night. My arms would frequently fall asleep at night and would wake up with tingly arms, now that is completely resolved. I have allergies to dust mites, so the naturally repelling dust mite material the mattresses are made from work great, no more stuffed up nights. We also use the Obasan pillows which a very comfortable, bed sheets, and comforter (light for spring/summer and heavy for fall/winter). Great customer service, and they even shipped us re-usable masks made from their organic cotton to use during the pandemic as a gift. Darlie John is the best!

It's been an incredible difference to sleep on our Obasan bed and pillows. I used to get so sore before pregnancy, and we decided that was the time to get the bed. 7 years later it is still worth every penny -- only downside: you will have a hard time sleeping anywhere else.
Our Ottawa store is run by a caring and deeply knowledgeable manager named John. He really helped us pick the perfect bed!

Obasan is by the far the best bed we have ever had. When you think of the amount time spent in bed the value is there for sure. My wife has been cancer free for six years but has had chemo cramps for the entire time up until the last month when we received our Obasan 12" bed. Unbelievably they have almost completely disappeared! Like I said worth every penny.

We’ve been buying Obasan mattresses for the family for the past 12 years, starting with a crib mattress and wool cover sheet, to kid mattresses and pillows for the whole family. We’re very happy with quality of their products, and their showroom staff have always been helpful and super friendly to deal with. We love that the family is sleeping on comfy mattresses/pillows free of chemicals.

Excellent attentive service. I appreciate that they keep records of previous purchases to inform consumer choices in the present. All are nice, but I have a soft spot for Darlie.

We ordered a crib mattress as we are expecting our first child and we were very impressed by the quality of the mattress. It is nice and firm and fits our standard crib well. The great thing is that there was no chemical smell. We also had great customer service. We look forward to dealing with Obasan again in the future.

We have had our Obasan king mattress for 7 years and it has been truly a great investment. We slept better from the first day and now notice every other bed we sleep in is not the same! The staff at Obasan was very helpful in designing our bed with us when we purchased it and have been equally helpful when we've had questions. We would recommend the Obasan experience to anyone.

We bought our first mattress from Obasan 7 years ago. We still love it! Since then we have bought two more mattresses and pillows from them. Their products are high quality and made with care.

An Obasan hand crafted bed has been on my radar for over 20 years now and 18 months ago we finally were able to make it happen. A couple of months prior to our purchase we spent time emailing with John about what we were looking for then made a trip to the Ottawa showroom. John had our specific bed “put together” for us in a beautiful private bedroom in the showroom where we were encouraged to lay down and experience what our bed would feel like. It was quiet and comfortable just like home! There was no rush and he patiently answered all our questions then gave us a tour of this family owned business. This bed did not disappoint and we absolutely LOVE it. Knowing that all materials were organic and that there would be no off gassing added to the comfort level. The ability to swap out the “cushions” that make up our sleep system as they wear or as our sleep support needs change is such a great idea. This will be a forever bed for us for sure. Customer service was top notch and we are so happy to support such an incredible family business.

Obasan has been a great company to deal with.

My husband and I bought our Obasan mattress last May and said goodbye to restless nights and stiff bodies every morning! The back aches disappeared within days. From the minute we walked into the showroom in Ottawa, throughout the selection process, the purchase, and delivery, our experience was great. John was patient with our questions, encouraging us to take our time to try out his spot-on recommendations. A couple of months after delivery, we noticed a tiny tear in the base layer foam and it was replaced without question or fuss. We like the idea of being able to replace the parts of the mattress as they wear out or as our requirements change. Better than throwing away a whole mattress every few years. And the quality is worth every penny.

We've purchased a number of products from Obasan now (three mattresses, some mattress protectors and a pillow) and have not been disappointed. First of all, the customer service is second to none. I did a lot of research prior to purchasing my mattress - it was very important for me to have organic, non-toxic materials for my family, and John was great in responding to my very many questions. He was prompt, transparent about product materials, and just went above and beyond to help and provide me with information needed to make an informed decision - just overall really excellent customer service. As for the products themselves, I have not been disappointed. The mattresses are of excellent quality and super comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend Obasan and their products to others!

I wanted a mattress that was organic and free of harmful chemicals. My experience was positive from the moment I walked into the Ottawa store. Darlie John was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I can still contact him with any questions over a year later and he responds right away! A+ customer service!

I was referred to Obasan by my chiropractor several years ago after mentioning that I was not sleeping well. I had previously cycled through various conventional mattresses and the quality of sleep simply was not there. With time, and even with rotation / flipping of the old mattresses, I just was not getting the quality of sleep I was looking for.

Although I was skeptical at first, I have to say that the Obasan mattress changed all that. I am sleeping much better now. I also love the fact that my side is separated from my wife's side so that I am not impacted by her movements at night. That separation, by the way, also means you can have different firmness on one side versus the other side of the bed depending on the person.

It is also great that the mattress comes in sections as this would make replacement and transport a lot easier. Fortunately I have not yet had a need to replace nor move anything.

Lastly, I should say that the service was excellent. John took the time to answer all our questions, and he was very friendly and knowledgable.

Definitely recommend the mattress.

We couldn’t be happier with the quality of customer service, expertise and the product! My husband and I both have injuries so having a mattress that was customized to our individual needs was a game changer. It took 20 minutes in the nap room to fall in love. We are so grateful to the team— they really give 5 star service and are so knowledgeable. It’s clear that they stand behind their product and care about their customers.
