A Better Version Of Me

After 6 months of mentally preparing myself I joined OYNB 4 years ago on the 3rd August 2021 and have been alcohol free since.
The key factors for me were:
recognising change was needed; making a committment to myself to change; and discipline. These were not easy but I did it.
Motivators:
I like the phrase used by OYNB 'to be a better version of myself'. It is what I wanted for me and equally important I wanted it for my partner. I needed to make the committment to myself first and foremost but making a committment to my partner was also an important motivator.
The Process: for me, the committment also included sitting down each day and completing that day's exercise. It was a learning process which helped me to understand me better
Kicking the Habit: Following the program helped me to break what had become a habit. I still have the notes I made each day from the exercise work I did with OYNB but to date I have not needed to refer to them.
Outcome: The sense of achievement is always with me and some days it very much hits home just how much I have achieved, hence this update review. Alcohol has no relevance in my life now but the change that has come about has changed my life and that of my partner for the better and of course it is helping my health and my wallet !!

An Investment In Yourself

I thought about Complete Control for well over a year before taking the plunge. I worried that it might be a scam, or that there might be some other program out there that could do the same for less money, but I liked that it was was designed with busy professionals in mind. I can’t say for sure why I finally pressed the “Book Your Call Today” button on that Wednesday morning in May, but that decision has been life-changing. I have been living alcohol free for over two months now (the longest stretch in my adult life), and I feel fantastic. What’s more, I’m confident that I now have the tools I need to maintain control in the long run. I expect that one day I will return to alcohol on a limited basis (i.e., have one or two drinks without it turning into three or four or more), but right now I’m just happy waking up with a clear head and without the daily morning regret. I still have cravings, sure, but I know how to manage them now and it gets easier every day. I learned how the narrative I had created about myself from childhood contributed to my habit, and I learned how to let go of that narrative. I learned how to recognize my triggers and call them out so I can redirect my behavior. I learned how a daily meditation practice can help me live in the present and feel hopeful about my future. All in all, it was the best investment I have made in myself in a very long time, and I can’t thank the whole CC Crew enough for the experience!

Profoundly disappointed! You cannot trust this initiative.

Profoundly disappointed with the team and unfulfilled promises. "For-life-access" to the materials and platform were promised when I purchased my challenges. Now they moved to a new platform and you cannot even access to the videos and texts that helped you once. We all know this (sobriety) is more often than not a long endeavour. What is so surprising is that they do not even consider that you join the new platform, you have to pay again. A wonderful pdf explains the situation giving absolutely no compensation, option or solution. Disappointing project. This is not the way to do things. PS: Jen's mails so often are annoying, by the way.

1. “For-life access” to materials and platform:
According to our records, you purchased the 90-Day Challenge on 8 August 2019 and later upgraded to the 365-Day Challenge on 31 May 2020. Since then, there have been no additional purchases from your side, but we can see you reset your challenge multiple times between 2020 and 2025. This shows that the service remained fully accessible to you for several years and was delivered in full.

Regarding “lifetime access,” we’ve checked your purchase details and found no mention of this in your order confirmation or checkout terms. When that term has been used in general communication, it has always referred to access for the duration of the platform or programme’s availability, not unlimited access forever. This is a common and widely accepted interpretation in digital products and online services.

2. Moving to a new platform and being asked to pay again:
We understand this change has been disappointing. The old platform had reached its limit in terms of support and stability, so we transitioned to a more sustainable system. Continued access does now require a new subscription, and this was explained in the update documents. We are aware that this shift is not ideal for everyone, but it’s necessary to maintain a reliable service going forward.

3. No compensation, options, or solutions provided:
You had several years of access and use of the content, with extended functionality like multiple resets, well beyond the original programme timeline. While we don't offer free transfers, we remain open about the value and structure of the new offering.

4. Emails from Jen:
If Jen’s emails don’t suit your preferences, we completely understand. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any message.

Seven years, no itch...

I just celebrated 7 years of freedom from my 'Chardy' habit, thanks to OYNB. On past anniversaries I posted happy pix and even made little videos onto the Challenger group Facebook page. I see it's being retired, but like trainer wheels coming off the bike, I feel ok to not have the page to celebrate on, my sobriety is normal to me now, and so many new people doing the challenges I doubt they remember me, or need my two cents worth. The program works for most of us, the daily emails, the videos, the books to read, etc etc, I learned so much that is still useful in my daily life challenges. Thank you all at OYNB I couldn't have done it without you! Seven years and no itch!!!

An amazing tool if you are serious about quitting Alcohol

I purchased the 365 days of videos and found them extremely helpful in teaching me not only new coping skills with alcohol, but many positive life skills from meditation to changing the way I eat, exercise and how i view myself. There is so much great advice coming from a wide range of resources over the year. I would highly recommend OYNB based on my own personal experience and life improvement. Complete Control

I did the complete control course July to September 2024 and it was the right decision. A focused 8 week burst, and it helped me sort out some trauma, mindset and health issues. Although I didn't join it primarily at the time for the alcohol part, nonetheless I'm now 300 days AF (and nicotine free come to think of it), and don't miss it. Good learnings, positive support from the team and the community who remain engaged. I'd recommend it.

2019 Crew

I joined OYNB in July 2019 on a 90 day challenge and never looked back. What was most helpful, especially in those earlier days, was the daily emails, the encouraged journaling, slack group and more than anything the Facebook community.

OYNB is amazing

OYNB is an amazing organisation with some great people behind it. It has helped me a lot, from taking on my initial 90 day challenge to now being nearly FIVEYNB. Some people may not agree with everything that has been done, that's their personal issue, my opinion is that it's a great organisation which is well intentioned and has a massively positive impact on its members and i would thoroughly recommend it.

Read before buying, you might lose your money.

I bought a lifetime access to this online course a few years ago. It was £99, a big commitment for me because I’m not wealthy. But I thought it would be worth it because it’s a lifetime access. I haven’t managed to complete a one year challenge but I do come back to the online course every time I go for a 30 day challenge and it works very well.
I tried to log onto my account for dry May, gotta get my slimmer summer body back, but the website seems to have vanished. I sent an email but no reply. I went to the Facebook page to try get an answer and found a bunch of posts about them shutting down. Theres a long post about how they’re making no money so they’re trying a new business model. (So not shutting down then?) The new business model is to close the ‘old’ course and open a ‘new’ course. People who complained on FB about lifetime access were reminded that the fine print stated it was lifetime access to the online course and since the online course is now dead you’ve lost your lifetime access. I’m shocked. I feel so cheated. No wonder they’re not replying to any of my emails. Please tell me Ruari, how can you do this with a clean conscience? I bought a lifetime access because I wanted to keep coming back to it. I supported you and your business and you’ve kicked me in the face.

If you’re considering buying one of the ‘new’ courses, check the fine print first because this new business model has a dishonest vibe.

After reviewing your account, we can confirm that your purchase was for the Reset and Realign 90-day challenge programme, which began on August 17, 2022. This programme ran for 90 days, during which all course content was fully delivered. There is no mention of “lifetime access” in your purchase confirmation or the welcome emails tied to your order. Those emails clearly outline the programme’s scope: structured access to the challenge through the OYNB Members’ Area, along with supporting resources such as mindfulness materials, mocktail recipes, and optional community spaces like Facebook and Slack.

It’s also important to note that the Facebook group was a free, value-added feature, not part of the paid deliverables. You had continued access to that group for over a year beyond your programme’s end, without any further cost. While we understand that many found the community valuable, retiring that group was part of a broader transition aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability.

We fully acknowledge that the phrase “lifetime access” can sometimes be misunderstood. When used in our programmes, it has always referred to the lifetime of the course or platform, not indefinite access regardless of future changes. This is standard practice across most digital products. The transition away from our legacy platform followed a detailed review of technical, legal, and financial considerations and was communicated to members via email and community updates.

OYNB remains active and focused on delivering even stronger support through a new platform, with improved tools and more personalised guidance. While some legacy systems have been retired, we continue to support our members as transparently and fairly as possible.

We respect your right to share your feedback and want to be clear that our pricing, terms, and platform changes have been communicated in line with UK consumer law, including the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. While we welcome all perspectives, characterisations suggesting dishonesty or bad faith are serious, and we respectfully disagree with that interpretation.

OYNB is amazing! I joined for the one year challenge in 2018 or 2019, I can’t remember, and stayed part of the community this organization created and facilitated through the present. OYNB gave me a source of community, camaraderie, accountability and consistency that has made my life so much better! Sobriety is the best gift I am giving myself, one day at a time, and OYNB helped make that possible. They are a wonderful organization led by a courageous few who sought to change the world by doing something daring and different. Thank God for them.

Worth Every Penny

As others have said - this program was life-changing for me. I signed up on a whim at the start of June 2018 and here I am, nearly 7 years later loving my alcohol-free life. This program, with its incredible community, helped me realize it really was possible to change my relationship to alcohol. Post-program, my efforts to work on the things that drove me to reach for a glass of wine have deepened, but I wouldn’t be there without the baby step on ramp that this program provided. I can honestly say, I’m living my best life because of it.

OYNB is a wonderful programme

OYNB is a wonderful programme run by people that truly care and get it. There's been some backlash recently at the switch from their old platform (including free access to Facebook and Slack groups) to a new paid platform, so I just thought I'd leave my two cents that these people are good guys who have helped a lot of people change their relationship with alcohol. The perfect community

I joined OYNB in 2021 when I just couldn't handle the effects of moderate drinking anymore and needed motivation and accountability to go sober in a world that tells you to drink. It took me another 3 years to achieve my goal and the OYNB Facebook community was an important ingredient in helping this. Finding a place where you belong when trying to give something up in life that makes you feel like you are being excluded is critical. It's a shame Ruari and Jen, despite obvious personal commitment and sacrifice, could not ultimately find a business model that makes this brand work, but I will be forever grateful they were around when I needed them.

Life changing

Four years without alcohol and I owe it all to OYNB. Four years without anxiety, poor sleep, poor bank balance, clouded judgement etc etc. The daily videos made me totally rethink alcohol and it's place in my life. Alcohol free living is so much better. THANK YOU OYNB.

OYNB...5 star review!

This is my experience with Ruari Fairbairns and Jen Fairbairns.
I understand you have recently been the unwarranted targets of many rude, undeserved and uncalled for criticisms and I am sorry for that. You did not and do not deserve them. In contrast you deserve such appreciation and endless rounds of applause for all you have done to make so so many lives so much better.
Things change, circumstances change and I have been clear in my posts that OYNB planted a seed in each and every one of us.
Yes we had to do the work, dig deep on a daily basis but OYNB made that part easier too.
Without that seed, I would not have grown into the strong elder that I am. It encouraged me to grow, to be better than I thought I was. Here I am, clearheaded, calm, happy, strong, and energetic.
I am an award winning garlic farm, and because I am AF I don't have to think twice before I operate farm machinery.
So, while I am sad this is coming to an end, I am ENDLESSLY GRATEFUL to you both for believing in this, in each and every one of us and for those daily videos, encouragement and guidance.
I wish you both the very best life can offer in the future. Sometimes things don't work out and we need to go back to the drawing board and that is life. Remember as one door closes, another will open.
