We arrived home from Antalya on SundayâŠ
We arrived home from Antalya on Sunday 9th August, everything went smoothly all the way from Turkey until we got to Birmingham airport. We had no idea of any problems with baggage until we tried to collect our cases, 6 flights arrived within 20 minutes and all put on carousel 2 while 4 other carousels went unused. One and a half hours later the baggage started to come through, staff standing about looking totally gormless and uninterested. Birmingham Airport want to be recognised as a major hub for business and sports events- no chance - USELESS!!
Itâs just a shambles in every sense
Itâs just a shambles in every sense, ugly, very badly designed, narrow corridors, makeshift rooms and halls with poor lighting, long waits and a looong etcetera of inefficiency. I just came back from Tenerife South, a bright high ceiling building with proper working air conditioning, excellent security service and just a working functioning airport. Birmingham airport is a disgrace on all fronts. A dump.
Poor
Long queue on departures as all electronic gates turned off and one person doing it manually. Long queue for security. Then itâs just awful commercial stuff and it seems they have reduced seats if you are not in an eating area. Tatty. Expensive to drop off (outrageous). I donât mind anytime making a reasonable profit for a good service .
Birmingham Airport baggage handlers
This is my second trip in June. Once from Spain once from Portugal. Its just not acceptable how long the luggage takes to come out. Is there only one baggage handler working behind the scenes? 1 out of 10
If I could do zero I would
If I could do zero I would. 2 hours to get through security. People having to run for flights everywhere. The file manning the lifts had no clue made everyone queue will one or two people from express and assisted travel queues go up. Then opened two queues leading to a crush. Elderly gentleman in the main queue had to be rushed through only to to be told you should have booked assisted travel - maybe he didnât expect to be on his feet for 2 hours? Staff were lovely but no way anyone would want to work there. Someone undid a barrier leading to a crush and people queue jumping. So shockingly bad and a health and safety issue waiting to happen. The project managers should be sacked. This has been going on for 2 years surely you should have sorted it by now
Ques from departure security
Ques from departure lifts, all way through.
Herded like cattle. Worse than cattle as no water. Even non checked bags had to wait on conveyor belts.
Not enough staff.
Poor poor.
Stressed before flight. Sort it out
Dreadful service this morning
Dreadful service this morning. One of the queues for security was barely moving. I got to the ticket scanners after 30 minutes, whereas the other queue was moving quickly. I alerted the security member of staff who was standing by the ticket scanners but he said that it wasnât his problem and I should contact customer services. Meanwhile, those who were supposed to manage the queue (presumably) were staring at their phones⊠dreadful.
Shocking experience with assistanceâŠ
Shocking experience with assistance travel flight from Greece to Birmingham Airport was greeted by the staff with wheelchairs 2 members of staff were both swearing I let that go them going through airport security to collect suitcase was ask did I have any to collect in which had 2 big suitcase one mine and other my daughterâs the staff member parked me up in the wheelchair leaving me while my suitcase was still on luggage belt lucky enough there was lovely people at the airport who got them off for me and my daughter finally after around 15 minutes to lady came back I asked her was she meant to help collect my luggage her response was no well I new this wasnât true so I asked her for her name and told her I was going to put in a complaint she then said Iâm going to get another member off staff to assist you so was left again in my wheel chair all our luggage waiting for another member of staff I asked him if member of staff help with the luggage section he said yes off course we do this was shocking to be treated like this and feel for the next person who gets this lady she clearly should not be doing this job roll I have forwarded a complaint as itâs not a nice experience for any disabled member to go though
Absolutely vile experience
Absolutely vile experience. The main issue they face is customer service. The whole process is demeaning and rude. Be it the luggage handlers or be it the border control, they seem to lack basic human etiquette and basic communication skills. There is way too much to list here but one thing is for sure, if you don't enjoy your job (which majority of people dont) find something you do enjoy. Why isn't this been addressed? On a serious note if I recorded this experience it would be a very fascinating watch ngl. I think I may try it and urge others to do the same.
Organised Chaos!
This has truly got to be the worst airport in the UK that I've had the misfortune to fly from! The security was simply chaotic despite arriving 3 hours before flying. What was sad, as I queued for over 2 1/2 hours, was the thought of many people missing their flights. The airport security staff, that should have been knowledgeable, were not which added to everyone's frustration. My suggestion to improve would be to visit other airports, such as Edinburgh, and see how they do it as Birmingham simply cannot. On our return, we passed the same queues and can only sympathise, from queuing to get the lifts up to departure (absolutely no system - random if you are even moved forwards) to going through security itself to scan carry on luggage. I just hope your customers make it to their flights on time!
Absolutely disgusting the way the staffâŠ
Absolutely disgusting the way the staff talk to passengers.
Absolute shambles
Absolute shambles of an airport. 8 security machines and only 3 staffed. Tens of thousands of people queuing for 2 hours. Staff unhelpful. First and last time at this airport - clearly managed by people who simply do not care about the customer experience. Itâs not as if a Friday before a bank holiday comes as a surprise - and surely you must know how many people are booked on a flight. When we finally got to the security machine the âassistantâ said âyouâre going to miss your flightâ. Well thanks a lot. So helpful. Thankfully we didnât, but not thanks to BHX.
I fly a lot but....
I fly a lot, I use to use manchester airport but my last 3 visits have being dreadful for many reasons. I wanted to swap!
I tried birmingham and it will now be my go to aiport, everything was super. no problems at all. It was a super experiences, staff where very helpful and even gave me help....
I am very impressed with birmingham airport and if like me you can choose, choose birmingham!
7/4/26 I flew with sunExpress toâŠAntalya
7/4/26 I flew with sunExpress to AntalyaâŠbut there was an issue that day as a fire was found on another aircraft which caused delays at the airport. This meant, My flight was late taking off. We boarded approx 1900. All passengers boarded and sat waiting in the aeroplane on the tarmac, but nothing happened. Some pax were getting annoyed as there was no information about what was going on.
After approx another hour or so we were told the plane would have to divert to another city as crew hours were over their allotted time to fly, by 15 minutes. This meant waiting for a flight to Antalya from a city in TÃŒrkiye. This caused annoyance to some passengers who wanted to get off and rebook with another airline.. There were no coaches to take us to the airport gate/terminal so we were waiting until 2200 not knowing what was going on. Then we were told our luggage was unable to be sent to baggage claim as the airport didnât have a contract (for maintenance services to get the luggage from the hold and place them on the baggage carousel) with sunexpressâŠby 23:30 - 12 midnight after the ground staff made many calls to find out what was going on - our bags arrived on the carousel.it was now 12:15 midnight⊠We were given a hotel room in ibis for the night. We arrived there 100 or so passengers being checked in. I was eventually booked in by 1 am.
The situation was badly handled by the higher management at BHX but the ground crew were amazing. They stayed with us to make sure we were safe and had accommodation, baggage etc from the time they should have gone home ( 1730 approx) but they left at 1230-1 am 8/4/26. Without their help, all of the passengers including me, would have been stranded in the airport maybe even the aeroplane as the pilot was useless with his communication.it didnât exist it was the ground crew and cabin crew who told us what was happening. Apparently it was mentioned how this pilot caused a delay on purpose because of some perceived issue with the airport. He was not professional, he did not speak or communicate with passengers at all. He left the ground crew and cabin crew to deal with everything. He walked passed us at the airport with an arrogant grin on his face. The 1st officer appeared to be indifferent. The pilots didnât acknowledge us or communicate with us the next morning onboard either. The cabin crew were good and caring about passenger welfare throughout.
But mangers at Birmingham airport? Poor. No support for their ground crew or customers.
(As a side note to management - even visiting Birmingham airport is depressing. Not enough toilets, which are blocked most of the time or unavailable- to the depressing looking 1970âs style of building with unhappy (no doubt very under paid) staff. Itâs a shame that people from abroad have to come to this poorly styled shambles of a building with rude security staff too. Some security staff need manners and some behave badly towards passengers like they enjoy their bit of powe, by being sharp with how thry speak, inconsistent - shoes/ no shoes to some people not othersâŠjust slightly aggressive and curt for no good reason.)
I doubt anything will be done to improve things as managers in any service sector rarely answer or act upon customer comments. I just hope thry can at least praise their ground staff on my behalf.
I can say the airport managers were very unhelpful to the ground crew that night of 7/4/26. It was their sunExpress ground crew who saved the day. Bless them, they said how they âdidn't want to leave passengers strandedâ - thatâs why they stayed.
Then we had to check in for 0630 am to fly for 10 am to Antalya. The staff who looked after us the night before were there - ready to check us in. Can the managers please thank them? Thanks isnât enough, they all should be given overtime or some vouchers or promoted for excellent customer service- I mean excellent and caring to families with children, disabled customers, and those who were sick on board as it was hot onboard.
Well done SunExpress ground crew 7th-8th April 2026. You are a credit to the airport and I hope the CEO acknowledges your dedication to passengers. ðð»
Returned from Montenegro on ThursdayâŠ
Returned from Montenegro on Thursday 16/4. Landed at 2.20pm, picked up from aeroplane on the bus, held on there for 10 minutes. When we got to customs (UK border force) unbelievably only one member of staff, hundreds of people waiting. I felt embarrassed to be EnglishâŠ. Even airport staff were ashamed, an utter disgrace. Not the first time for such an awful service. Eventually picked bags up 90 minutes after landing, shamefully slow.
T1 Gate 8 Departure
T1 Gate 8 has now moved from the bottom of the ramp leading from the departure lounge to a prefabricated building situated on the tarmac.
You have to use the old steel staircase to the tarmac to access the new building. Not good if its raining or icy. Plus the fact there are no seats or toilets.

BUT
The toilets by the language claim belts 4 weâre disgusting
Having been to Mexico ware every hotel facility were spotless. I couldnât believe my own country could be so dirty- no toilet paper dryer dident work door dident lock
It was obvious the floor hadnât been mopped in hours.
What a shameful nation we are becoming.
First time traveler using assisted passage.âŠ
I traveled on New Years eve on the Jet2 flight to Cyprus. This was my first experience of this service and, I had a number of concerns about the service.
However, these concerns disappeared as soon as I made contact with the Assistance Desk. The staff were especially helpful since I told them that it was my first time. During the journey to the gate the guy kept me fully informed about what was happening and, we went directly to the front of every queue, I was amazed.
All the staff that I met were pleasant and helpful, a joy to deal with. The experience removed all my concerns about traveling with a disability. Well done to the team at Birmingham Airport.
Very slow check in
It took over an hour to check our suitcases in. 3 desks open, not enough, then one desk closed whilst there were still many people queuing to check their bags in. As security is usually quite slow this meant that some travellers were definitely going to be pushed for time to make it to the gate on time. The airport needs to do better, always awful and stressful flying from Birmingham. But the man in security was very friendly and helpful.
Incompetent staff
The staff in security are either untrained or uncaring. Only 2 lanes open and all priority and assisted yravel people being shepherded through just one of those 2 lines. This meant that ordinary folks queueing in that one hardly moved for an hour, the line always being fed by the prioroty people and the poor bods queueing held back and only one person a minute being let through.
Sort it our fools. You must have organised this type of thing before.
