This website has been accepting orders with no intention to fulfilling them. The amount of people reporting that they have been scammed by this company is amazing (more on this later). The company relies on the fact that it is a registered business in the United States to gain credibility. I am beyond shocked that it is still being allowed to conduct business taking advantage of United States market in such manner!

If you look at this their subreddit you will be amazed by the number of people that have been scammed. PLEASE beware of paying them money, you will NOT get it back, nor will you get the product shipped to you.

While majority of people who are scammed were buyers of their mobile phone product, I am one of those who trusted their US brand and bought the laptop product, trusting them with over $3500.

Purism devices are not for everyone but they are the dream device for gnu+linux hackers. For me it worked great outside of box and with little tweaking I have no problems since I got it months ago

I had to send my Purism laptop back to the vendor because of a hardware problem. On my dime, BTW. That was about 1 year ago. Then, about two months ago it broke again, this time software. After a recommended update, the system stopped booting in Gnome and instead I get the shell now. When I asked support for help they sent about 7-8 different suggestions on how to replace or reinstall some components out of which none worked. When I complained again they stopped communicating with me. This product and in fact the whole company is total trash.

I bought a second Librem 5, it is just the only phone made with real Linux in mind and with direct software support from the manufacturer. Ordered and had it in my hands in Germany 10 days later. AMAZING. Now, if I only could order directly from a European seller, so I can skip the customs experience.

I purchased a Purism laptop a few years back.
I was a little clunky at first but I did get used to it. I did appreciate the security features and liked the way it had kill switches to turn of webcams, and other security features.

About a year in I started to have minor problems with it freezing and it seamed to lock up. The "kill" switch turns out to be a tiny hole on the back side. Very inconvenient to find a sewing needle to kill the system.

It crashed and would not restart in February. Replaced the flash hard drive. Crashed again this September. Turns out to be the mother board. Trying to get a replacement motherboard. Was told I need to give them the order number or the serial number. Order number is long lost and serial number is worn off.
But the model number and version number. But they are unable to identify whether they have a replacement motherboard.

This is not a cheep laptop. They should be able to track down something about machines they build.

I won't go back to them for another machine. I've purchased older second hand machines that lasted longer.

I have been a loyal Purism customer for five years now, and will continue supporting them for as long as they keep making computers. I love being able to support a company that provides premium hardware while also giving back to the community through the excellent software they contribute.

SCAM ... multiple email .... 4 years no phone .... no money back ... SCAM

I pre-ordered the Librem 5 phone in 2017, convinced by the grand promises made by Purism. The phone was supposed to be out within a couple of years. Years went by and nothing happened. Eventually in 2021 I decided to ask for a refund in accordance to the refund policy when I made the purchase. I was told I could not get a refund yet and had to wait. In January 2022 I asked again. This time I was told I would be refunded soon. Months went by and nothing happened so I emailed them again. This time I was told the process was a bit slower than expected, but I would still get my refund during 2022. I never heard back from them after this.

It feels more and more like a scam. They got my money with grand promises, but never delivered. And when I asked for my money back, they claim that I will be refunded without actually doing anything about it. I feel thoroughly scammed. I honestly don't know what I can do about getting my money back for a product I never received. I am not a US customer, so it feels like they ignore me since they know I have extremely limited legal options.

Purism has refused to give me a refund in 2023 after not shipping a phone I paid for in 2017. At this point I believe the company is simply a scam.

I have a Librem 5, it has Debian running on it and it has kill switches.

Yes I ordered it a long time ago, but the phone was a mere proposal when I thought about buying it - the software features non-existent and when shipping dates were proposed I was happy to take a back seat waiting for a later generation.

I work in IT and very often projects run over their deadlines by months and even years - so I'm not surprised that happened and content to forgive it.

However, the communication could have been better - yes a pandemic happened and a chip supply problem was obvious from the news, but it still feels like the communication could have better explained the situation and it would have been nice if the phone could have been upgraded (even as a paid option) to support 5g.

I like many others order a Librem 5 in 2017 and have not received it. Just a string of emails saying it'll be here in X months or weeks and those dates roll by with no product delivered.

I've had a year old email chain with João Azevedo at this point and all I get is broken promises and I have no new information. I even threatened to sue so they forwarded me to their manager, who didn't get back to me even 6 weeks later.

I am disgusted by this company.

I ordered and paid for a Librem 5 on 12. March 2021, after no delivery was made by December 2022, I cancelled the order after speaking to a service representative and was promised a refund, however despite repeated queries I have not received my money back to date (March 2023). I can only warn against this company - you lost your money!

Avoid this company if you don't want to loose your money.

Ordered the Librem 5 smartphone in 2018. 2020, the phone has still not been delivered. Decided to move on and request a refund. Told I would have to wait until they ship the device. Received confirmation in 2022 that the device was ready to ship. Requested a refund again. I have not received the refund by this date.

Absolute scam!

Ordered one of their Phones in 2021, then the excuses came. I emailed to request a refund .. a year and a half later I have nothing. I demanded a refund. They did reply with "Your request is in a cue, please be patient"! Utter BS .. a refund takes all of a few minutes to process. These people have stolen my money.

Don't waste your money, these people are ripping me off and they'll do it to you too.

I waited for librem5 phone for three years, but because I heard that it was full of bugs, I decided to buy a computer instead of a phone, and I had to pay an additional $449.Now I received the computer and after a day or two I saw that this computer is only good for throwing in the garbage bin.Its battery can only work for half an hour and needs to be recharged.Now I have paid 1098 dollars for this computer which is worse than the cheapest European computers and I regret it.Now I have paid 1098 dollars for this computer which is worse than the cheapest European computers and I regret it.

I ordered a phone in 2017 but never got it.

I returned the item and it’s been 3 months and they still have not given me my refund

On November 28, 2021, I purchased a phone, desktop, server, and laptop from Purism.
I paid for the order with a Russian bank card registered in my name on the website www.purism in the amount of $12,085.97.
On February 04, 2022, the order arrived in Moscow, Russia. (DHL Tracking number 3204598040)
The Russian customs did not let this order pass in the Russian Federation, since the goods were not registered with the special service.
I contacted Purism via email to return the order and refund my money. The company Purism agreed to accept the goods and refund my money.
We sent the order back to the US via DHL. On February 10th, the order arrived in the US and was received by the company. (DHL Tracking number 8431150081)
The company said that they need to check the product and then they can refund me the funds.
On February 21st, Purism informed me that the item had been inspected and the refund request had been forwarded to the processing center.
More than nine months have passed since then, but I have not received the funds and the company's employees have stopped contacting by e-mail (I wrote to various people who used to answer, but now they don’t answer and ignore me). More than 200 letters have already been sent to them. I am contacting a lawyer.

The idea and concept of the Purism Librem 14 is great: you fully own your hardware, no IME, hardware switches for camera/mic/BT/wifi and open source boot loader.

After waiting for over a year for my order to be delivered, I got it. At least, I got a product delivered to me. It seems that many people did not even get their paid product.

The notebook itself is a well built product. BUT it has two issues:
a) the notebook regularly drops dead (black screen, no power, completely off) with still 65% or 28% or 11% of battery left (shown after switching it back on)
b) when suspended the battery drain is too high: about 2% per h or half empty after a day of being suspended and not used.

The only response you get fro their support, is to wait until the next release of EC firmware, PureBoot, PureOS etc. For 1,5 years that did not change a thing!
