I really learned something about visual communication. For many things I did before intuitively I now have a name - and have been given strategies, how I can improve my communication even further. I strongly recommend this course.

Great training workshop about visual communication. The combination of videos to learn about the fundamentals and a hands-on workshop to apply these principles to our own examples works very well. Dr. Zupanc encourages everyone to participate and is open for questions. Maybe one recommendation would be to compress the time between the actual workshop activities (i.e. introductions, disclaimers, transitions, roadmaps, 2-minute break, etc.).

I found the numerous examples of effective and ineffective graphics and slides extremely helpful. I also appreciated the hands-on participation and the opportunity to give feedback to others. Overall, the life session and also the numerous videos were very engaging and never felt long, despite covering so many videos on so many aspects. This was certainly also due to the trainer’s personality.

Even with the constraints of a small course, Jernej skillfully introduced us to the fundamental concepts of Visual Communications. We gained not only theoretical insights but also practical advice that can really help us effectively convey our messages. The personalized feedback on our previous work was incredibly valuable, helping us refine our communication strategy.

I really enjoyed the applied workshop on our work, it was really helpful. It really gave us insight on how other people, sometimes from completely different fields understood our work and on how we could make it much more understandable with simple tricks!
Additionally, the online platform allows us for a better time management on our personal organisation.

Overall, I would 100% recommend this class and I am very happy I had the opportunity to take it so early in my PhD. This will definitively save me some time in the future years.

The workshop was very educational. I learnt many new concepts that I can apply directly to my work. There was a great balance between online self-study and hands-on workshops, in which we had the chance to apply the concepts ourselves. It was also beneficial to discuss our own examples.

The online resources and the live workshop were extremely useful, and I got valuable feedback on some of my science communication outputs. The only part I did not love was the "design a graphical abstract of your research and present it to your colleagues" exercise. I did not find it particularly useful and would rather have spent the time designing a figure of something more specific (maybe given a prompt), rather than one for something as broad as an entire PhD project.

The communication of the speaker was clear and got always to the point.. This is what made the experience great! Asking to shut down the camera when presenting the feedback on our job (to let us focus only on the presented material), use a timer for a wiser and more professional use of the available time, etc. are all details that show an high and solid preparation.

The full concept of the color system and the introduction of google fonts help me a lot.

This was a great workshop which taught me how to be very intentional about how to use visual elements when showing my work.

The 10 hours I spent studying this course (online + workshop) were completely worth my time.

Doing science and presenting science are two different things. At university, I only learned the former, and in this course I learned the latter.

I learned a methodological and evidence-based approach to making scientific presentations, posters, and writing grants.
