Silk Mandarin's summer camps have become a beloved tradition for my family. This is our third year sending my kids to China from Canada, who were 9 and 12 when they first attended. Initially, they knew hardly any Mandarin, but after just two weeks, their interest in the language blossomed.
I believe their love for Mandarin stems from two key factors. First, the camps are packed with fun and engaging activities that make learning a new language feel like an adventure. Second, the teachers are incredibly patient and supportive, which helped my kids build the confidence they needed to succeed.
Now, my children can comfortably hold daily conversations in Mandarin. My son even challenged himself to be the MC at the closing ceremony this year!! Before joining Silk Mandarin, learning Chinese felt overwhelming. I had tried studying on my own and even used a few apps, but progress was slow and inconsistent. This was my first time joining the two-week summer camp, and I had a great experience. The teacher was very helpful and friendly, which made learning Chinese enjoyable and effective. I also loved the afternoon activities like exploring local spots and playing mahjong—they were fun and helped us practice Chinese in real-life situations. This is my first time in Shanghai and I’ve chosen Silk Mandarin as the place where i’ll study Chinese - i didn’t expect that I’ll not only learn some vocabulary, grammar etc., but also will have that much speaking practice. Lessons are well-structured, the school provides a huge amount of useful study materials for previews and reviews so i have a chance to go through the topics again after and before every class.
Every teacher at Silk Mandarin talks to you several times a day during the breaks so that you practice more. I was really afraid of speaking in Chinese even though i had a good bases but thanks to the program I’m not afraid of asking people for help on the streets if i need something. It is also possible to have small-talks with natives now!
Special thanks to teacher Jane - she taught me a lot of new things and it is not only about the lessons, she has also showed me that it is better to try to say something in the language you studying, make a mistake and try to rephrase your answer than to sit in silence and be afraid.

I have no regret with my decision as the follow-up at this school is great. The teaching tools are created by the school and everything is really well organised. I am having group classes with teacher Jane for my HSK1 and HSK2. Really happy with the overall learning experience. Great school! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and my teacher Christina is great, she shares lots of interesting anecdotes about Chinese culture in class. The course also provides lots of preview and review materials for each section, which I find very useful.

Before I joined Silk Mandarin, I had spent a lot of time studying Mandarin on my own. While I managed to pick up vocabulary and some basic grammar, there were always parts of the language that felt confusing or incomplete, and I struggled to apply what I’d learned in conversation. I knew I needed a more guided and immersive approach to really make progress.

Silk Mandarin provided exactly that. Their teaching methods helped fill in the gaps and complete my understanding of the language. My teacher, Yanqin, was fantastic — incredibly patient and skilled at explaining difficult concepts in a way that made them click. Thanks to her and the school’s supportive learning environment, I now feel much more confident and capable in my Mandarin journey.

Teacher Jane is OUTSTANDING. I always had trouble learning Mandarin, and my parents tried to teach me growing up but I just couldn’t grasp it. I thought that being in China would help me pick it up, but even full immersion didn’t help much. After joining Silk Mandarin, my Chinese speaking and understanding level has improved more in the past two months, than it has in 25 years.

The teaching methodology and resources are easy to use and it really works. Each week I can put my learnings into practice. Jane’s classes are super fun too, and the time flies by. It is the perfect mix of fun and serious. Jane is personable, knowledgeable and experienced at teaching students from several cultures. Her teaching really brought my Chinese speaking to the next level.

I’ve taken both online and in-person classes with Silk, and they do an amazing job. My Chinese level has improved tremendously over the past few months.
The teachers are all very happy and encouraging, and you don’t just learn the language, but also study Chinese culture.

I originally studied Mandarin in college, and have had a much better time with Silk. I especially prefer their methods for teaching grammar; they make sure you truly understand how Mandarin speakers think, instead of just memorizing sentence structures.

They also do a great job of preparing you for the official HSK exams. By the time I sat down to take the HSK4 exam, I was very comfortable with the type of questions, and had no problem passing.

I passed my HSK1 exam in around 2 months (2mornings /week) with teacher Jane. It was great, this school provide a platform with a set of videos and interactive exercises to do online before and after the classes, it really helps. And during the classe we do a lot of practice, I really enjoy the way Jane teaches me Chinese. I addition the school organises a lot of events, lunches... To meet the other students, it feels like a family :)

For me Silk Mandarin has been a very good school to learn mandarin.
I think that their learning platform is really good and stands out from other schools. The grammar lessons on the platform are very well explained and I also found the preview and review parts very helpful.
Jane has been a wonderful teacher and she made the classes very fun and educational. She also showed a lot of patience with me during my mandarin learning.

I am pretty much what you would call a hopeless case when it comes to learning new languages, but SilkMandarin has challenged that notion. Their methodology and classes are distinctive from any other centres I've attended - structured, easy to follow, and fun. The staff are friendly and helpful, and Evelyn is an amazing teacher whose classes are fun and engaging, with a perfect balance of challenge and encouragement.
