Sykes requested I change my booking due to their error

I booked a holiday property on 5 January 2026 for a week commencing Friday 7 August 2026 staying in Scotland. The booking was completed on-line and I paid a deposit. On 6 January I received an email from the customer service team at Sykes asking me to change my check-in date to Saturday 8 August for one week. I replied, however, the automated response I received stated I could expect a reply within 7 days. Given I have booked a ferry I couldn't wait 7 days for a reply so I tried calling. I spoke to a team member who said they'd transfer me to an agent. I was holding for 10 minutes with no information on how long I might have to wait. I then tried the WhatsApp option and again I received an automated response. Given that Sykes contacted me, I would have expected a more immediate response.

I’m very sorry to hear that you have been asked to amend your booking dates, and I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you.

I would also like to apologise for the difficulty you have experienced in speaking to an agent at Sykes regarding your concerns about your ferry crossing. We want all customers to be able to communicate easily with the property manager we work alongside, so I completely understand that this situation hasn’t been ideal.

As listing agents, we unfortunately have no control over the availability provided to us, nor over any amendments to your booking. However, I can see that you have already contacted us via our customer support line, and I will be responding to you shortly to help resolve this issue.

Wonderful Host loved every….

We really enjoyed our stay at The Oast House during Christmas also the cosying of the place.It was so lovely, the beams and all furnishings made it so perfect as not so Morden. Loved the walks especially one on the last day. The Hosts were really warm, friendly and were at the end of the line whenever needed. They gave us the history of the place and my boys loved the conversation on Cattle imagine. We are planning to go back for summer.
I would recommend the place for anyone who’s dying for Peace and Quiet.👌

Gives a wide range of properties

Not the greatest site. Put in dates +/- 7 days but it did not exclude properties that weren't available. Despite using the filter to list the properties from lowest price the order was not sequential. I almost lost the booking because the payment wasn't taken and Cottages.com cancelled the booking so I had to rebook.

Beware

Beware. The website will show you a prices for your desired dates and says the property is available for "your dates"
However if the property only does changeover days on Monday and Friday, the site is not set up for this, so can be very misleading.
It will let you book your desired dates !! And give you confirmation !!
However as they use Sykes holidays to book through, you may get a phone call the next day to say the property will not accept your booking.
You then have to change your dates, which if you are going with a number a friends, this is very frustrating.

Basically their website needs changing to reflect the dates that the property will accept that they are the agents for.
