Excellent service from So Legal. Our solicitor, Alphonsa Shibu, was absolutely amazing throughout the whole process.

From starting in early October to receiving our house keys on 19 December, the entire process took around 2.5 months, which was incredibly fast. Because of her hard work and efficiency, we were able to receive our keys just before Christmas and celebrate our first Christmas in our first new home, a truly lovely and unforgettable feeling.

Alphonsa was extremely professional, helpful, and responsive. She replied to emails very quickly, often the same day, and was always available to answer telephone calls. Her communication and dedication made the whole process smooth and stress-free.

Excellent Service – Smooth 28-Day Auction Purchase

I’ve just completed an auction property purchase with SO Legal, and the whole process was extremely smooth and efficient. Completing within the strict 28-day timeframe was made easy thanks to their professionalism.

A huge thank you to Dylan and Dalton, who guided me through every step right up to completion. The purchase was done using a bridging lender (Together), and everything was handled expertly.

Katie Bacchus at SO Legal worked on the sale of my property. Everything went smoothly, everyone I dealt with at SO Legal was helpful, and completion was on time. Over all it was a great experience.

I instructed this firm to assist with a legal matter they claimed to have expertise in, but from the outset, it became clear that this wasn’t the case. I had to explain basic aspects of the situation repeatedly, and at one point the solicitor even admitted to not having read key documents I had provided. This immediately undermined my confidence in their ability to handle the case competently.

Rather than drafting a clear and accurate letter before claim — a fundamental step — they instead focused on preparing an unhelpful “pre-counsel” letter. I had to request extensive edits due to the solicitor’s apparent lack of understanding of the case, and I was billed for the time spent on those edits. Eventually, the solicitor told me to simply edit the letter myself, which I found completely unprofessional and unacceptable, given I was paying for legal expertise.

A barrister was brought in but added no real value to the matter — their input didn’t extend beyond what I already knew from my own research and dealings. I was then advised to seek a second barrister in a completely different area of law, which would have added an estimated £3,000–£8,000 in further costs. In my opinion, this was a step that a solicitor with actual expertise could and could have handled themselves. It felt like an unnecessary escalation that increased costs rather than advancing the matter.

Following one meeting, the solicitor told me that they “didn’t like wasting clients’ money” — which I found particularly insulting, as that meeting alone had cost me £3,000 and had achieved nothing of substance.

To make matters worse, I received conflicting information about whether the firm even worked in the relevant area of law they looked to pursue with a new barrister. Initially, I was told they did not. Later, the supervising solicitor claimed they did. This inconsistency, coupled with the poor handling of my case, left me feeling misled and confused.

I submitted a formal complaint to the supervising solicitor, but it achieved nothing. My concerns were met with vague responses that didn’t address the core issues. It felt like there was no accountability or genuine interest in resolving the matter.

In my view, this firm should never have accepted my case without having the appropriate expertise. After nearly four months and close to £7,000 in fees, I was left with no meaningful progress. I ultimately felt forced to de-instruct them due to a complete lack of confidence in their conduct and to avoid any further risk and potential negligence.

I will be escalating the matter to the Legal Ombudsman for independent review.

Based on this experience, I cannot in good faith recommend this firm to others. I strongly advise anyone considering their services to thoroughly check whether the solicitor assigned to their case genuinely has experience in the relevant area of law — and to proceed with caution.
