False Default
A completely false default was added to my credit file by JC International Acquisition on 23 August (dated 31 January 2021), despite the original lender, Ovo Energy (formerly SSE), admitting in writing that the entry was an error and issuing me official apology letters.
I have now contacted TransUnion multiple times (Case ID: 01501548) and provided them with full evidence, including Council Tax bills showing I vacated the property years before, and Ovoâs letters confirming the mistake. Despite this, the default is still showing on my credit report.
This error is already having a serious impact on my mortgage application and financial future, yet TransUnion continues to leave false information on my file instead of taking swift corrective action.
TransUnion is supposed to ensure that credit files are accurate and up to date, but instead they appear to protect the interests of incompetent third-party companies at the expense of ordinary peopleâs lives.
â ïž I would strongly caution anyone about relying on TransUnion to hold accurate information â their inaction has had devastating consequences for me and my family.

Electoral roll dispute not resolved within 30 days
Opened a dispute because my electoral roll information didn't appear on the credit report. You only get a reply at the 28 day mark blaming a third party.
You contest their allegation with proof their system doesn't have the electoral roll information either, they open another dispute to have another 28 days instead of expediting the process.
Company to avoid if you run a business who needs their service for credit information.

Absolutely useless, Iâve tried & tried to get resolution to the flawed information they hold on me , I have submitted the information to prove their information was wrong , we are shown on their records of no fixed abode because we donât appear on the electoral register ?? We have never missed a vote , lived in the same house for 38 years , we actually appear on their electoral register , the local authority have no idea why they should be treating us this way & they have actually submitted confirmation of us appearing on the electoral register ? we had the same problem back in 2023 with them , and here we are again 2 years on , we really should let a Sunday paper report & credit champion on it , great story & perhaps the flawed information they have on us may be changed once & for all to reflect the true position! However again I have to wait 28days to have it rectified, clearly they havenât started using computers yet !!

Outrageously bad and incompetent
1 star as ZERO is not a selectable option! TransUnion is an absolute disgrace as a credit score provider and should be investigated by the Ombudsman. Frankly, they shouldnât even exist in their current form, they are inaccurate, shoddy and their inompetence and inaction destroy peopleâs lives, as you can see from the many 1 star reviews here.
In our case, Octopus Energy confirmed a default on my partnerâs credit file was incorrect and twice instructed TransUnion to remove it. Experian removed the same record in 24 hours. TransUnion? Still sitting there months later.
Weâve rung them daily to make them aware of Octopusâ requests and try to speed things up yet they keep assuming weâre âdisputingâ the default, which is completely wrong. Only on our sixth phone call did one member of staff finally understand what we were asking. Even then, she admitted there was nothing she could do to make management read our email quickly to the central email quicker (this is the exact same email TransUnion is responding to 1 star reviews with, trust me, donât hold your breath, no one will respond!)
Our 6th phone call also shed like that âmanagementâ have no phone line. They ârespond via email onlyâ. Yet as indicated our detailed email which ccâd Octopus (based on their recommendation) has had zero reply. There are âno internal commsâ between the call centre and management, only a central admin channel to write and attach notes in an attempt to escalate your claim, so they canât even check if anyone is actioning it. They cannot ring that team to get them to action it immediately.
If you look at the sheer number of bad reviews on here, the backlog must be massive, so I probably wonât get a response for a long time. Overall theyâve said 28 days to respond, even 5-6 weeks. This issue started back in May, so they canâf even stick to their own timelines. Meanwhile, weâre being held hostage from getting a mortgage because TransUnion canât do their job.
Shocking company. Slow. Inaccurate. Utterly unaccountable. This is not just incompetence, itâs actively damaging peopleâs lives.

I was worried when my bank told me that they had taken away my overdraft. Not that I used it, but it was
satisfying that it was there, should I need it. When I spoke to the bank, they told me that they used 'outside' agencies to check on my credit. One of the agencies was TransUnion whom I contacted, and their service was first class. I received a well-constructed credit report showing that my credit was excellentlent. Thank you.

This company masquerades as an âagencyâ and that it is somehow fulfilling a statutory government obligation.
Itâs nothing to do with government. Itâs a private commercial entity that steals, buys and sells your data for its own profit.
It collects an awful lot more information than it ever had obtained permission to do so. Itâs legally allowed to collect payment history and court conviction data only.
Instead they collect your web traffic, your salary, where you go, who your friends are, what you watch, the whole lot. All nefariously tucked and hidden away in extremely vague terms and conditions and small print. Watch this horrid organisation.
They make it as difficult as possible for you to complain and exercise your statutory rights into the bargain too with self created procedures and conditions. They could not be more deceptive and unhelpful. In many countries what they do is simply illegal.
These people are data thieves and they steal your information for profit. They are as bad as the criminals themselves as neither this company or the criminals has permission for what they take. AVOID AVOID AVOID and good luck if you ever need to try and engage with them. Keep all of your communications.

Still reporting that I am not on the electoral roll despite being on it for over 10 years.
I have emailed them and sent in relevant information and queries regarding this and then they just stop replying.
Both of the other credit reference agencies report me being in the electoral roll only TransUnion have the issue.

How is this company considered worthy of using?
I donât want anything to do with Transunion but unfortunately my banks use them as credit reference agency. They have none of my information linked resulting in a poor score. Having emailed them I got fobbed off with a â we are very busyâ email ( not surprised as youâre so bad) and have just received another â can we have your date of birthâ email. The type of email I would expect to get from a Nigerian General. Very unimpressed.

All I can say is I have never dealt with a company that is so useless. It uses (check my file) for credit ratings. Call centre based in South Africa. All information given to me was in correct. Phone number given to me was some mortgage company. Stay away from the misinformation company. The bad news is Octopus Energy use it for there credit rating.
Octopus Energy must be being paid to use them. Most companies use Experian or Equifax. Not some 5 year old company.
