With such an expansive system spanning the globe allowing people to review and share their thoughts on places from restaurants to hotels and everything in between, it has definitely become my go to companion when in a new town, city or even village on one of my many travels around the world. Solo or with my girlfriend, we reply on the reviews, photos and helpful opinions of fellow travellers on where to go, what to see and have many lively debates about what to eat. It is a very, very valuable resource and taking an objective view on reviews almost always steers us true. LOVE TRIP ADVISOR!

The site and app are well laid out and easy to use - TripAdvisor now has huge critical mass which means lots of reviews of travel locations. That means you can usuallly read more than one reviews of the paricular destination you are interested in.

I have found TripAdvisor a safe way to select hotels, restaurants and occasionally tourist sites. People are generally candid in their opinions and by staying clear of bad reviews I have had really pleasant travel experiences.

Its a pretty good option if you want to be sure about a place

I have always found that travellers give a pretty honest appraisal of a service or place. Try looking up best coffee in a town! If a place is bagged then it really is best avoided. The way the information is set out makes it easy to see past the occasional troll. Keep sharing the ideas, especially smaller less mainstream offerings.

When I first signed up with TripAdvisor, I wrote passionately about hotels, restaurants and various other places I had visited. It felt good. After all, I was rewarding outstanding service and exposing poor service. I was educating business owners, showing them the power of word-of-mouth advertising and at the same time providing fellow travellers with useful resources.

Like a good Boy Scout, I soon gained some merit badges. I was climbing the ladder to becoming a TripAdvisor guru!

However, after a while, the badges began to lose their appeal. I don't know why I expected something more. But I did. Naturally, this made me feel bad. TripAdvisor came to the rescue by telling me how good I was and how many people were appreciating my reviews. I was sparked back into life to write a few more reviews. My readership increased and I felt less bad.

Still, I began to question who was I working for. Was I working for my fellow travellers who stood to gain useful knowledge from my reviews? The answer is 'yes', which is very good. But was I also working for a multi-billion dollar organisation (deriving much of its profits from click based and display advertising) and being compensated with pixel-badges? The answer to that question is also 'yes', which is bad. It's bad because the offer of bigger and brighter badges seems rather patronising after a while. It's bad because I realised that despite my desire to spread the truth and help my fellow travellers, I also wanted something for myself (something more than pixel-badges). And it's bad because I can't yet see a way for companies like TripAdvisor to start incentivising its contributors without potentially compromising the unbiased nature and validity of the reviews upon which the company is built.

So, from my perspective, that's the truth about TripAdvisor. The good and the bad. And what of the ugly? The ugly is in the truth itself. I will keep reading reviews on TripAdvisor. I will probably continue reviewing on TripAdvisor. And it's true I will probably keep getting those silly pixel-badges.

It seems that the truth seldom is pretty. In fact, it's often pretty ugly.

I use TripAdvisor all the time. I've submitted multiple reviews, and I rely on its reviewers to provide current and reliable information about traveling to different parts of the world. An invaluable resource.

If you are looking for Hotels travel and and help with your travel arrangements look no further .

most things I find great however, when you try to inform of for example someone posting incorrect information. you cannot do this. I have tried several times but none of the options allow this.

I love having a place to go to when I get good service,excellent service or poor service,it allows me to warn other people off the bad places and reward the good and excellent places

Service businesses sometime forget that customers have a voice
In today's tech environment, it is very easy to voice your opinion
I have enjoyed rating businesses good or bad depending on the service they offer
Some of the upmarket businesses get hooked into their own hype eg The Langham - they market themselves as a top hotel in Akld
I was disgusted by their service
But who am I just a nobody - The Langham reminded me of that
Guess what - I have a voice
This site has given me a voice

Honest reviews from where I have stayed and experienced. I have been lucky to have some great trips and because I am a older mature traveller it is very important not to have a unhappy experience. Hopefully everyone else is honest about their reviews.

TripAdvisor presents a good range of opinions

Take advantage of travellers reviews for they are the best source of information on accommodation, restaurants, things to do and see and what to be aware of.

I used trip advisor often when planning trips away and weekend roadies, I have always found I could find an honest review of whatever I was looking for or came across. Now that I have my own business it has been a fantastic tool to prove to our future clients we do a good job, and that we provide the service we say we do. Thank you Trip Advisor

some tourist attractions are not as the same as shown in the picture

Some of the reviews I have done have not been so good but on the whole most of them are excellent, both accommodation and restaurants

I use this website exclusively to check out deals but most importantly, reviews of accommodation as that is very important to me when I'm travelling away from home.
