The safari tour was very good organized. Especially the safari in the local Guersney park was very remarkable. The ranger made a very good job.

My family and I had a great experience in South Africa with the help of Detour Africa. We did a safari and a Cape Town family tour. We enjoyed both activities a lot. The city tour, in particular, was wonderful because our guide, James, knows a lot about what he shows you in the tour, in addition to being a very pleasant person.

From initial enquiry to the delivery of the tour itself Detour were very easy to deal with.
Due to a cruise ship re schedule we found ourselves with a day in Cape Town with nothing to do.
Having used Detour Africa in the past for longer overland tours, I thought I’d email them and see if they could do anything for a day trip.
I had a quick response with some options and chose a private tour of the Cape Town area.
The tour was fabulous and our guide was so informative all the way through as well as being very flexible and having a great sense of humour. We all had a great day.
I can’t recommend Detour enough whether it’s overland tours in Southern Africa of a day trip in Cape Town.
They made everything so easy.

Booked with Detour for four nights Safari at Kruger and 2 nights in Zimbabwe. It was a fantastic trip with highly knowledgeable tour guides that were always on time and courteous. We stayed in Thornhill Lodge and had best hostess, cooks and staff. Our stay in Zimbabwe was also fab with a day tour in Botswana on safari and boat trip. Victoria Falls was just awesome. Africa is so beautiful with the animals in natural environment and the people are just wonderful but you have to be careful and best to book with a tour group.

First engagement with Johnny was fantastic, fast response and extremely Friendly up until I finalized my booking. Then the morning of the departure I received a message from Fazlin keeping me updated on my guides arrival time. And than there was Mark, the legend. Professional, SUPER friendly, courteous, if push came to shove, I am sure this guy would have offered his kidney if anyone needed it on the trip. I am sure all the guides are fantastic but I am super grateful that we had Mark. I was a solo female traveller, first time travelling alone and i felt so safe and at ease. And of course the trip itself, words cannot explain enough what an adventure this was, the food, true South African dishes which just made me fall in love with my country all over again, the sights, oh my word the sights, you have to see it. I had chosen the guesthouse accommodation, for the extra money I was thoroughly pleased. My only wish is for more South Africans to take this trip, and the many other's on offer, it really gives you another appreciation for our country. Perhaps some cheaper options for SA citizens to afford them the opportunity.

Communication was fast, precise, they delivered what has been described in the brochures or website

Our travels to South Africa took us from Canada to Cape Town where we spent several days prior to boarding a cruise. Reading about Cape Town for some time before our trip, many times we read warnings about the issues of safety in the city. Like any huge city around the world, Cape town has it's issues and we wanted to have local escorts to show us around. Everyone knows that booking tours from half way around the planet is always nervous because you really don't know who yo are dealing with. We did not need to worry.
We worked with James to arrange our tours of Cape Town and he ensured all our needs were met. We could not have been happier.
Our driver / guide "Gareth" arrived early at our hotel. First thing he explained was that guides with Dtour Africa are fully trained and licensed. Each guide is identified with a name badge to ensure your guide is authorized. Gareth arrived in vehicle as new as it could be. The vehicle was very clean and comfortable to sit in. It turned out that Gareth was our driver/guide for both days of touring in Cape Town. He was just wonderful to spend the days with, and we were comfortable enough to talk about our lives. Gareth was extremely knowledgeable about . . . . well, everything. As the years of aging pass by one by one, it's natural to be more concerned about security so far from home. Gareth managed every detail of our tours and never left us alone, so that we felt safe every minute of the day. Everywhere we stopped he knew someone. On our second day James met up with us a a local winery simply to meet us and ask how we were. That was so nice.
To conclude our critique, we cannot thank James enough for organizing our tours, and we cannot thank Gareth enough for making our stay in Cape Town so memorable. If you have an option, ask James to assign Gareth to be your guide, you won't regret it.

Had a perfect experience with two tours, one in Kruger and a day tour of Johannesburg. The guides were very informative, and everything was well organised. Also special thanks to Johnny who gave me all the options on what I was looking for, along with lots of advice and was there to help answer any questions. The communication was exemplary and is the main reason I chose to book with Detour! Would fully recommend and would book again in a heartbeat.

It's my third time booking with Detour Africa, and I'm always delighted how knowledgable and helpful they are. My brief this time was "I want to go to Kruger" and working with Elana we were able to find an itinerary that perfectly matched my expectations and budget!

Detour Africa planned a three-day Kruger National Park excursion for us. It was a well organized and customized trip. We were pleasantly surprised by a private guide just for two of us, who took us in a jeep to the park and also walked us through the bushes to be close to the animals.

The transfers were well organized as well.

This trip was amazing! Not only the booking was more than easy, but our agent James was super flexible even with my never ending requests! Our driver from and to the airport was extremely knowledgeable of the park, all animals, South Africa itself, anything - such an interesting ride we've had. The game drive was stunning - we've been so lucky and saw almost all animals very close up and had a good chat with our driver too. What a fabulous trip. Mawande our driver/ guide was a skilled driver and informative guide. The Canga Caves were an absolute delight. Addo Elephant Park enabled me to see beautiful herds of elephant in family groups. The Garden Route Game Park I thought went out of their way to help everyone despite the deluge of rain we experienced. Food and accommodation was excellent

I had a 5 star experiance at a one nights trip to Pilanesberg with tour guide Johan! Johan is so experiances and so knowledgable which made the trip amazing! He does not follow the rest of the cars, which gave us a 45 minutes upclose encounter almost alone with a lepard. We also had private encounters with a rhino family, elephants, hippo, giraffe, zebras etc. I am so happy I booked this trip, and will forever be gratefull for the amazing memories. Thank you Johan and thank you Detour Africa for your great service before and after my trip! Would absolutely recommend to others.

Auch zur Regenzeit ist eine Campingtour möglich. Die Zelte waren meist überdacht und sehr robust. Erfahrung im Camping sollte man haben, die Ausstattung ist einfach, aber ausreichend. Man muss zu dieser Jahreszeit ab und zu mit Regen rechnen, die Temperaturen waren angenehm bei 25 - 30 Grad.
Unser Guide auf der Tour war sehr kompetent und umsichtig. Er hat uns das Land, die Kultur, die Menschen und die Tiere näher gebracht hat. Diese Reise kann ich nur weiterempfehlen. Es hat uns außerordentlich gut gefallen.

This was a great tour to experience Namibia and Botswana, both beautiful countries with a lot to offer. The staff were always friendly and helpful; they loved to answer questions. My recommendation to the company is to advise ahead of time about all of the extra tipping that was required of staff outside of the tour and also when dollars vs. rand vs. pula could be used as that was often confusing and required multiple ATM trips that was unexpected. Also some activities required cash vs. credit and that should be mentioned (the flight over the Okavango Delta for instance). There was a lot of driving, which was to be expected but perhaps also letting us know about a lack of A/C on the truck to be prepared for that heat in transit especially on long driving days. Being in such close proximity to people for that amount of time results in good friendships but also some irritability and conflict at times. Be prepared! A reminder in the beginning and middle of the trip to pitch in and be helpful would also be good, as some didn't know to do so and forgot to do their part.

Wonderful experience booking through detour, James was very helpful at the beginning helping us decide which tour and dates would suit us, answered every question and great communication. Although we booked our flights to arrive two days early, we still managed to get delayed and missed the departure of our tour as a result. Detour helped us figure out how to catch up with them and were a huge invaluable support. They checked in also.
Really enjoyed our 25 day trip to Southern Africa & could not recommend it more, thank you!
