Promised things that they didn't deliver on again on this occasion - genuinely disappointed

Car picked up in hours quoted and returned earlier than expected. Video sent showing engineer doing required checks on my vehicle. Staff polite.

My car was failed on its MOT for 'loose headlights' and 'driverside airbag obviously inoperable'. I was told that the headlight brackets were broken and the airbag warning light was on. I was asked to pay £300 just to have the brackets fixed and the airbag warning light 'investigated'.

On collecting the car there was no airbag warning light and the headlights did not feel loose. The passenger side headlight twisted by about .5cm at the front with some force, but that was all.

I took the car to another garage instead, who said that only the first headlight brackets were broken, not the secondary brackets (and therefore they were not loose/at risk of falling out), and that the airbag warning light goes out a few seconds later than the others after starting the engine (totally normal). They said the car should never have been failed, retested & passed the cars MOT for me without any repairs or further investigation.

I called the evans dealership to complain, but they doubled-down insisting that the airbag warning light was on when the car was 'on the ramp'. This seems unlikely considering it has never been on prior to or following the MOT. They confirmed that they had not tested the airbags (side note: not sure why the car was failed for 'driverside airbag obviously inoperable' rather than SRS warning light indicating a malfunction?). The service staff member I spoke to (Josh) also said that the headlights failure was irrelevant because the car "would've failed anyway" based on the airbag failure. I was offered apologies for my 'frustration'.

Whether the two failures were honest mistakes from the technician or intentionally designed to procure further works, I'm not happy. I'm out of pocket £35 for the retest at the other garage, and it would've been £300+, had I trusted evans. Even if the works were necessary, £300 for simple fixes/checks is steep. In addition, my car was serviced by evans at the time of the MOT and they have so far been unable to provide me with the results from the vehicle health check (which is supposed to be included with their service). I won't be taking my car to evans in future.

Great service from Evans Halshaw Milton Keynes, dealing with excellent salesman Nathan Duncan and his boss John. Knowledgeable, efficient, not pressured, patient, thorough, efficient, made the whole part exchange and purchase so straightforward. Highly recommend.
