Everlast Leigh gym has multiple faulty machines that don’t get repaired.
The staff are rude and unprofessional.
The gym is always busy due to them giving free day passes just to make it look busy.
Due to the number of faulty machines and the large number of people in the gym, it’s impossible to do a full workout.
The gym is covering dust and the air-conditioning does not work so on hot days it is a tin sweat chamber. No Open windows for ventilation.

The company could improve by actually listening to its long standing members, especially those that have been taken over from Roko. When people ask for classes to be retained it would be nice if Everlast could honour that instead of switching the gym culture entirely. If you are someone who enjoys a community style gym with classes for all sexes and ages, do not go to Everlast Gillingham. The management are unhelpful and it is unfortunate that they do not seem to care about the core values within the gym. That being decent instructors creating an enjoyable social place to train. Instead there seems to be a rather bullish approach to its members that have actually tried the alternative to the original Roko style only to be dictated to about their membership.

My Experience with Everlast Gym – A Customer Perspective

I created this post to share my personal experience following the change of ownership from Roko to Everlast Gillingham Kent .

I was a loyal gym member for around 14 years and valued the facilities, classes and overall experience that were available when I joined.

Following the takeover, I experienced a number of changes to the services and facilities that were important to my membership experience, including changes to the class timetable, the removal of facilities like the jacuzzi I had previously valued, and a reduction in the variety of classes available. There was never any customer consultation regardless of signed petitions etc.

When I raised my concerns with Everlast head office , I hoped for an open conversation and a review of my circumstances as a long standing member. Unfortunately, I did not feel my concerns were fully considered, and my experience of dealing with head office was disappointing. I requested that my concerns were escalated for further review this was ignored, but I did not feel I received the level of communication, transparency or customer service I would expect from a established company dealing with a loyal customer.

During my time as a member, I was also left disappointed by comments from the Gillingham management team suggesting that if customers were unhappy with changes, they should simply leave. As a long standing member, I found this attitude concerning, as it gave me the impression that customer feedback, loyalty and retention were not being valued.

This page is not intended to tell people where they should or should not exercise. It is simply a place to share my personal experience and encourage anyone joining a gym to ask questions, understand what is included in their membership, and consider how changes to services or facilities may be communicated in the future.

Customers invest their money, time and trust in businesses. Clear communication, listening to feedback and valuing loyal customers are important parts of good customer service.

I hope this helps as there are other gyms in the local community with more variety that are cheaper.

Swindon gym is subpar, much better gyms available for half the price. Go to JD Gym instead.

I cancelled and was phoned up to ask why I was cancelling, they didn't take my feedback very well about the equipment being poor and gave me blatant sass over the phone. Why ask for feedback if you don't want it?

Just avoid it and the staff.

Been a member for 2 years but have now canceled. Can never get on the machines I want, and one of the main ones I do use has been out of service for 10 weeks. No one knows when it will be fixed. Asked them to waive last month's fee as I haven't been able to use the machine, but they are ignoring my emails and just sent a payment link. Terrible service and gym!

I was a member of the Denton location which without any warning closed one Friday evening and closed permanently this is after 3 days earlier taking my monthly membership which I find appalling ripping members off like that when you would have known for sometime you were closing.
The gym itself had all the equipment needed (when it was working) but was always filthy! Never ever got cleaned and staff were non existent never used to see any on the gym floor. My advice pay a bit more money and find a better gym.

Extremely disappointing experience with Everlast. I believed I was on a flexible monthly membership, paying the higher rate of £40.50 per month, while my friend specifically chose a cheaper 12-month contract. It was never made clear to me when joining that I would still have to give a full month's notice to leave.

After cancelling, I was told I owed £40.50. When I went into the gym to pay this and sort everything out, I was then told I actually needed to pay £81 because they wanted another month's payment as well.

The staff I dealt with were extremely unhelpful and showed little interest in trying to resolve what was a genuine misunderstanding. I have contacted Everlast directly and given them the opportunity to put this right, so I will update this review depending on how they respond.

Until then, I cannot recommend this gym and will be advising friends, family and colleagues to stay away. Anyone considering joining should read every single line of the terms themselves and be extremely careful about what they are signing up for.

It’s a good gym with a good atmosphere BUT the down side is when some of the machines break they never seem in a rush to get fixed. Perfect example one machine has been down for over a month which is not good and now another has broken it will probably be the same. So no wonder it is a reasonable price to join cos if it was more you expect better service

Management is a con ! I clearly explained that I wanted a monthly membership as I wanted the freedom to leave but would sign up to a contract once I’ve actually been here a few months. Unbeknownst to me He signed me up for a 12month contract paying monthly and I noticed the next day. I called up and complained cancelling the membership. The next month they took payment and I’m still waiting for that refund. The manager said HR would contact me but they havent

So disappointed with the “customer service” from Everlast Sunderland. I have tried emailing a couple of times over the last few weeks with a health-related cancellation query under a specific clause in their terms and have just been completely ignored. Looking at previous reviews, their company ethos seems to be to ignore customers and hope the problem goes away so that they can still take their money. Absolutely no care for customers whatsoever. Based on this I would not recommend and cannot wait to be out of contract with them and never have to deal with them again.

I love the classes we have at the gym (though they are very limited) PTs are great, however air-conditioning in the gym area is not working for months which makes it impossible to use the gym are especially in summer. this week is again heatwave and last time I was almost fainting due to the poor air conditioning and too much heat in the gym. It is unbearable and I had to stop using it. Probably it was around 30 degree. It brings health and safety risks. I am not sure if management has any plans fixing this as this an important issue.

Stopped Aquafit classes without notice on 22nd February, staff blaze , "we know as much as you " was the answer when questioned about membership & going forward

Ive escalated my complaints through Citizens Advice Consumer Service ,I would suggest this to others as the customer care is non existent with Everlast

Amazing experience, super kind staff - amazing workout! Comming again

After a year of membership with Everlast (Colchester, UK), I'm not really that satisfied with the quality of the experience they offer.
The ticketing gate was broken for about 4 months, and the sauna has also been out of order for such a long time. The sauna in particular is one of the features which attracted me in the first place, and we fee-payers are literally buying access to every time we pay the monthly fee.
The only real reason that I kept the membership was because it's on the other side of the road from where I live, so convenience won me over here.
The young staff are all full of smiles and quite helpful when you ask for anything, but they don't seem to really be paying much attention to the cleanliness or maintenance of the gym facilities that much.
Luckily I'm actually moving away now, so it's an opportunity to find a better gym nearer my new place.

I was going to join this gym because my partner had and at first he thought it was a good place, albeit a bit dated. However, they have been deceptive with their memberships, telling him that he would be able to switch from the £40 membership to the £35 if he did not enjoy the hyrox classes. Since he joined 2 months ago, they have cancelled most of the classes so he hasn’t been able to attend them anyway. When he asked to move down to the £35 membership, they then backtracked and refused to change it. Will be avoiding this gym and I recommend you do too because from the other reviews it sounds as though things are constantly broken and service is poor.

Almost a scam if you read their contract.
My current gym will not let me cancel despite the aircon being broken for over 2 years, it's unusably hot inside.

They will remove any service (spa, air conditioning, equipment) and can charge you whatever they like?
Cost to cancel early for medical reasons? £10
Didn't give THREE MONTHS notice you wanted to cancel? we'll charge you another £35?
Want to freeze your contract? We'll charge you 2 months + £5.

Really poor and dismissive customer service.

Facilities if you're serious about fitness there's a wide range or free loaded and functional equipment Staff are friendly and Helpful at Front desk and Fitness Team are always there to help

Gym area is good, equipment is ok, good space, but could do with an update! Zero sanitizer to wipe equipment down, just a dirty cloth and spray, personally wouldn’t touch the cloth.. very unheigenic, especially after covid, shocking!! Ladies changing room and toilet absolutely filthy!

I joined gym before covid. All was good that time. 2 jacuzzis, steam room, swimming pool was good addition to gym area and was working perfectly. More than a year ago things started going down. Steam room on and off, no jacuzzis, pool always full of kids taking classes and their parents walking around with outdoor footwear on. Showers are very dirty, hair on tiles, some machines in gym out of order.
I cancelled my membership plus direct debit in April due to some health issues and since then it’s been absolutely nightmare as I have been told i owe even more money as late payment fee been applied. I haven’t been to gym since March, why do I have to pay for something im not using?? Its not a mobile or broadband subscription that I use every day. Not recommended at all.

If I could I’d give it a zero.

I have been trying to cancel my membership since April and the entire process has been extremely frustrating.

When I first requested cancellation, I was told it could not be processed until my account was up to date. I ensured the required payment was made and later received confirmation that there were no outstanding fees. I was then asked whether I wanted the calendar month’s notice applied, and I replied confirming that I did.

After that, I received no confirmation that my cancellation had actually been processed. Another payment was then taken from my account, despite me believing my cancellation request had already been submitted. I sent a detailed follow-up email asking for clarification, a review of the additional charges, and an explanation as to why my cancellation had not been processed when I originally confirmed it.

I never received a response.

The lack of communication has been incredibly disappointing. As a student, unexpected charges have a real impact on my finances, and I have spent months trying to resolve what should have been a straightforward cancellation request.

Based on my experience, I would NOT recommend this gym due to the poor customer service and cancellation process.
