I had my membership frozen while my home gym in Sunderland was closed for refurbishment. Due to an honest mistake, the membership was accidentally unfrozen, despite my clear intention for it to remain frozen. I did not use the gym at all during April and explained this to the Sunderland team, expecting a reasonable review of the situation.
Instead, I was told I would be charged the full monthâs membership fee regardless and that nothing could be done. When I disputed the charge and asked for the matter to be reviewed as a gesture of goodwill, my emails were completely ignored. After sending multiple follow-up emails and giving them ample opportunity to respond, I received no reply whatsoever (I was dealing with a lady called Claire who calls herself Membership Experience Host)
The lack of customer service was far more frustrating than the charge itself. Being ignored when trying to resolve a genuine issue is unacceptable. I eventually had to escalate the complaint to head office because the local team simply stopped responding.
For a company that claims to value its members, this experience showed the opposite. Poor communication, no flexibility, and no willingness to engage with a loyal customer over a genuine mistake. I would think twice before joining Everlast if you expect fair treatment when issues arise.
Clean the gym and fix the steam room
Gym is alright but nothing is ever cleaned the sauna has ants and flys living inside the floor in the swimming pool is not the colour it is meant to be and I have gotten an ear infection from the water on the other hand the steam room that does not get cleaned has been sitting broken for around 6 months now which is a real letdown. The staff are kind people and set up challenges which are quite nice but the gym does need to be refurbished

Been going to this gym for around 4-5 years and I can say its going down hill people say its ( got alot of equipment) yea it might have some stuff you have never seen before but no doubt it will be broke. Cables allways sticky/broke dumbells never in the right place or where you need the mens locker room smells like a literal toilet and when you say to the workers about the condition on the gym and machines its allways the same we are getting people out to fix everthing soon its been like this for months and they have a cheek to increes the price id give the gym a 4 out of 10 needs alot fixed

I am a new member he and bought the champion membership. I started at the gym and after speaking to sam (Head Coach) who was pleasant initially i decided to purchase a full P.T Package @ £150 at the beginning of may which included myzone free products plus extra benefits and a certain amount of P.T Sessions.
We are now at the end of may nearly a full month! I have had no e of the products since purchasing, I had an initial email from Sam (Head Coach), then after asking in branch to another member of staff (as sam wasnt available) that i would need sam to contact me so i could talk through previous injuries i had nothing at all not contact & no email. Also since staff have been pretty off with me unless i have approached them and made a point of asking them something!
I sent an email 3 days ago and told them i wanted my money back this was just after getting home from the gym and sam fully blanking me at reception!
Suddenly after asking for a refund i get an email from sam saying how it had been a while and wanted to book some sessions with no mention of the fact he had made no contact all month or the fact i had received no products included or the fact he fully blanked me with a sour face just the day before!!
I was then told by the manager Tom over email i wasnt eligible for a refund and he tried to push the blame onto me and how they were still waiting on myzone products even though one had been handed to a customer the day before!
I asked for a head office address from Tom but avoided that but did state he would pass it on to his area mnager but 3 days on and no email or contact about when the area manager will be in touch!!
I have emailed head office & this review will be posted to every review site i can find and i will also be adding to social media and other sources until i receive my refund!
Other issues:
The steam room tiles are slimy & filthy with scum on the uprights for the seating, the male showers and toilets smell like an s.t.i outbreak (a strong crabby cheesy smell & this isnt a one off they have been like that since i joined)
Unsanitary Conditions and Poor Management Response
I cannot recommend this facility due to serious hygiene concerns and a lack of management intervention.Today at 6p.m. I witnessed guests entering the swimming pool and sauna directly from outside while wearing their outdoor clothes, completely sweaty and dirty, without showering first.When I reported this clear health hazard to the management team, they refused to take immediate action, claiming they needed to "check the policy" first. Basic hygiene and common sense should not require a policy review. If you are concerned about cleanliness and avoiding infections, I suggest looking elsewhere.
In disrepair
I mainly want it for swimming, but that area is extremely grotty. Paint falling off things, many showers broken. Nothing is ever fixed. Lockers worn out, just stay that way.
They also DOUBLED the price of brining my kids into swim.
It just feels in a state of constant decay. Plus, other swimmers are just idiots who don't understand the concept of going in clockwise/anticlockwise for lane use. Could do with simple signage that made it easier for me to defend trying to use the pool like a normal person.
Misleading offer, poor standards, zero accountability
I was contacted by Everlast Gyms Bromborough with a promotional offer and assured there was no commitment if the gym wasnât to my liking. I used the gym once and cancelled the same day, assured that my direct debit had been cancelled, yet attempting to end this soâcalled noâcommitment trial became a drawnâout and frustrating process.
Despite clear cancellation and written confirmation that no direct debit existed, Everlast took 30.00 from my account without authorisation. My bank has since refunded me as Everlast failed to honour the direct debit agreement. Throughout this, the company failed to acknowledge calls and emails. âAlexâ the manager also didnât honour appointments and escalation attempts.
The gym itself was equally disappointing: dark, tired and with an unclean menâs changing room. Overall, a poor experience from both the facility and the organisation. I would not recommend Everlast Gyms.

Everytime I go in which is four times a week I'm welcomed by all staff leanne simon John olly with a smile and a chat all facilities are well looked after and never too busy

Would put 0 stars if I could. Firstly half of the facilities do not work or are filthy. Their go-to excuse is - "it's going to be fixed very shortly" - years later, it still isn't. The staff are outright rude. You will be made to feel like a burden. Regardless of what you ask them.
They also make it extremely difficult to cancel your member ship. The staff there will tell you to contact Head office, and the staff at head office will tell you to cancel it in person. I cancelled it in person and despite not having stepped foot in their gym in about 3-4 years, they have the cheek to call me to suggest that as my membership was not pRoPeRlY cancelled, I am in arrears.
Absolute joke. Cheeky. Rude. Useless. And expensive compared to other local gyms.
Still waiting for an answer from the branch manager regarding these "arrears" and my DSAR request - It's been 2 months.

This gym is going down hill by the day! Donât worry about paying monthly as you can walk straight though due to the gate / barrier being broken. No staff to see whoâs coming in!
The barrier has been broken for months with no plans on fixing it so until then everyone should use this â gym â for free.
Fills more like a youth club than a gym. The gym is full of young kids who stand around on their phones taking pictures of everything and everyone!

Poorly maintained machines, Many out of service. Many missing. No Everlast personnel in the gym. Dirty floors and dusty machines. Unwelcoming staff with limited knowledge.

When bringing the machine situation to the attention of the manager, he advised that it was all out of his control and there was nothing he could do.
He mentioned that he had brought in untried machines from the adjoining cycle shop to fill in space âŠ.. the phrase âhealth and safetyâ comes to mind here.
I almost felt sorry for him.
Not as sorry as I feel for the punters who are being ripped off by Everlast for the lack of service at Ocean Plaza.
I paid up and cancelled my membership.
I feel better for having cut my losses and stopped throwing good money after bad.
