Good Product. Dreadful delivery. Non-existant customer relations.
We used Harrowden Turf twice. The first time we ordered turf and topsoil to be delivered to a house which is near the end of a narrow road with parked cars along one side and over-hanging trees the other. They delivered to a space between parked cars by the alley leading to the back garden.
The second time we ordered a very similar type and quantity of turf and topsoil to be delivered to a house in a road wider than before, with parked cars along one side and trees that do not over-hang on the other. ie. More accessible than the first. It was 5pm on a Friday and we we were at Vienna airport when we received a call from the delivery team to say that they were unable to deliver because a car was blocking the road. We suggested that they drive the sort distance (200m) to the other end of the road and from there to the house. A short while later they called back saying they couldn't drive in that way because of low hanging trees. This is not true. The trees would not have stopped them driving into the road. Large lorries, some with cranes drive this way. We then suggested to them that they could drive to an adjacent road which has a short but wide stretch of pavement to the road they should deliver to and bring the delivery that way. They refused to do this. Neither did they check to see if the car they claimed was blocking the road had moved.
Harrowed Turf said that they could redeliver the next day, using a smaller lorry, but wanted to charge us £120 to do so. We said this was unreasonable as they should be able to deliver along this road, if they could to the other less accessible road, but to show willing we suggested we pay £50. We felt we should not have to pay anything, as delivery was included and the road they should have delivered to was more accessible that the first delivery. We also pointed out that they could look on the street view of online maps to gauge the difficulty or ease of driving down any road.
We were then out of contact as we were flying. When we arrived at the property they had not delivered and had left. They hadnât called back to say whether they would deliver the next day for £50 and they did not deliver.
The turf itself is a living product and can only be delivered up to 48 hours after being cut, so our order was spoiled. We did, however have bags of topsoil that they could have delivered, but when we spoke to them the following week, they were not interested in doing so.
We asked for a refund, which they refused to give us, even when we pointed out that it was not our fault that all, or part of the order was not delivered. They suggested that we raise a claim with our credit card company. We took out a small claim against them and they did finally refund us in full six months later.
During our communications with them, Harrowed turf showed no interest in giving any customer satisfaction. Their attitude was arrogant. They simply did not care.
DON'T ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY

I contacted Harrowden on Monday morning but they were totally disinterested. We tried getting our money back via Paypal but because we refused to send them all back (we don't have a lorry!) they wouldn't rule in our favour. So Harrowden get away with totally disgusting service!
Sedum roof kit failure
I bought some sedum roof kit just over a year ago and thereâs almost nothing left of it. I contacted customer services a few months ago and sent photos and was told I had not watered or fed it. This was not true, I had done both. Was told to give it a few more weeks and water daily, which I did but no improvement. I asked for replacement but was told they would not do this at their cost. I asked for a discount or at least free delivery for patching in, but no they would not even offer this. Total disregard for their customers.
Liars and thieves
Absolutely do not buy from these rude, useless cowboys. They have no common sense and they tell lies and they do not care about their customers.
No refund given to me after them being unable to get their largest lorry down the track we live on. I told them in the original call we lived off of a small lane and down a track. They did not offer any other size vehicle. They also did not tell me it would be a kerbside drop with a pump lift and no crane!
Rude little man on the phone, after the delivery driver had gone, telling me he would get my turf transferred into a smaller vehicle, was talking over me telling me I need to drive my car to the lane and "pop it into my car" We're talking about 50M² of turf abd a woman on her own! He even said that the driver wouldn't be helping me to do this and so I refused as it was an impossible task!
I mirrored his rudeness back to him because he was lying to me and talking over me and then he refused to refund me because my "choice words" that were true hurt his feelings.
The delivery driver was lovely and he told me he was in their largest vehicle. So why was the smaller one not sent after saying small country lane and track?
Absolute shambles of a company. Won't even talk to me on the phone, its all been via a contact page in an email!
I will forever bad mouth this company and tell people not to waste their time, energy and money.

Awful experience
I ordered wildflower turf and laid it. I contacted the company immediately to say it was mainly couch grass. They assured me it would be OK. I agreed to wait for a few week and then all I had growing was couch grass. I contacted them again - very poor attitude to me, off hand, rude and unhelpful. I decided to pursue them in the small claims court for a full refund and money towards digging it all up and starting again as couch grass is impossible to irradicate. I sent them a signed for packet of explaining what went wrong, copies of all emails and photos of when I planted it and current ones. I gave them 10 days to respond before I instigated court. They refunded me. No email, no apology, no notification of refund. No money towards cost of digging up but I did not press as I was exhausted with the whole experience. Totally awful.

DO NOT BUY THIS TURF!! Turf got delivered with bald patches, was told after contacting them, that the patches should recover, or need reseeding. Guess what they havenât recovered, and now been told I have to spend another £20 on a tiny bag of seed to fill in the patches there turf arrived with. Shocking customer service. Definitely wish I paid more attention to the multiple 1 star reviews. This is definitely a 1 star cowboy operation that canât grow grass.
Turf for numerous years
I have used this company for years...thousands of pounds of business and their delivery and service has got worse and worse. Numerous excuses, product is good , but I will not be using their unreliable and frankly useless service anymore.
Had a fabulous experience withâŠ
Had a fabulous experience with Harrowden Turf. Ordered 50sqm of turf through Robert Dyas, phoned me the next day to arrange delivery for a few days later, but were more than happy to delay a few days till my day off work.
Delivery was first thing in the morning, saving me waiting in all day and allowing the time to lay it before it got dark. The turf was lovely to begin with, but after just over a week and lots of watering it is absolutely stunning! Really happy for the price we paid to.
Would highly recommend. I have added photos to my Google Review to do my review justice!

I read some negative reviews for this company, and was amazed. I ordered a pallet, it arrived within the week, dropped outside my side gate, and was just the best turf ever. My garden is transformed!
I was 3 rolls short so picked them up from a local garden centre, and ghe difference in quality is like night and day.

We've had issues with them in the past but this is the final straw for them.

Harrowden Turf delivery.
I live opposite a Davidsons building site to where Harrowden Turf were delivering a supply of turf. The site has ample facilities to accommodate the delivery. The transport driver was either incapable of taking his artic into the site or just could not be bothered. So, he pulled up halfway over the the pavement and on the yellow lines very close to my rather expensive wall. I went out to have a word, what a waste of time. He then got the small truck off the back of the artic and continued to deliver the turf over a main road and onto the site.
To say I'm disappointed!!!
To say I'm disappointed is an understatement! I'd give the company no stars if i could! In May of last year, I bought literally thousands of £s of Birds and Bees turf from this company - 80 square meters. We prepared the ground and laid the turf as instructed at great expense. It very soon became obvious that we didn't get what we paid for! I immediately contacted the company for advice and thereafter kept in touch on a very regular basis including sending photos of what in effect was a wasteland of unwanted weeds - weeds that we have nowhere else on our property! (The company offered us a bag of seed at the outset which we scattered as per instructions) Over a year has gone by with approximately 2 white campion in 80 square metres of weeds! "We can't refund after this length of time' was their response and then an offer of more seed!!! This despite the fact we continually followed their advice and it was agreed we wait til this year to see if any improvement! They are now obviously using the passage of time as their 'get out clause'. Avoid this company like the plague unless you have money to waste. I don't want any platitudes in response, either. This would just be a PR stunt! I will explore other avenues to get some sort of recompense.

Be careful , very careful
On the strength of the images and description on the Harrowden meadow mat webpage ( and their published feedback which was all highly rated ) I bought five square metres of their Heritage range that grew into an unkemp , straggly and untidy mass of clover and grasses . It was laid down in March and has no evidence of any sign of the rich colours as shown on the website .
I contacted the organisation and sent over some photos , and was told that this was normal growth and to be expected at this time of year, and to remove any grass to enable any other species to flourishâŠâŠ indeed .
It is only fit for the skip and restart from scratch for thatâs all section of the garden .
All in all , a complete and utter waste of money , and have awarded 1 star as the turf was delivered on time . Sincerely hope this remains in the rules of feedback by being free , frank , open and honest . So top tip , look before you leap .
Easy to navigate, quick delivery and helpful staff
We had a look at a few turf companies and chose Harrowdeturf, the website was easy to navigate and place an order. We ordered on Monday night for the Friday delivery. Got a call next day asking if we would like an earlier delivery slot as they were in our area but as we were not available until the Friday kept it as it was. Delivery stated between 8am and 8pm. Delivery was prompt at 8am, and right outside our gate! We thought due to the position of where our house was it would be curbside so a gate delivery was a bonus. The delivery driver was knowledgeable and explained to my husband how to care for the turf once it was laid. Now the turf is down after it easily being put in place the garden looks great. Definitely wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I bought several dozen yellow rattle plugs from Harrowden/Turfonline earlier this month to help control grass growth in a newly establishing meadow. Payment etc was all taken promptly and delivery arranged for the end of the first week in June (3 weeks ago). it was delayed by a day or two but the plugs seemed ok but a little dry on arrival. I went ahead and planted them.
All but 2 have died so I have paid about £35 per plug. I expected some attrition but it is clear I should have refused delivery when they arrived a day late.
To my disappointment, my contact request through the company website was ignored. I also filled out a customer feedback form that laid out my concerns. No response. It was only when I contacted the company through their instagram that I got any answer. They asked lots of questions about how and where I had planted but these seemed to be to try to establish that I had messed up. We seem to have concluded Iâve done nothing wrong other than accept plugs that I should have rejected. All Iâm now getting from them is a repeated pasted line â I am not able to advise further. I have responded and tried to helpâ⊠but Iâve received zero advice and absolutely no help.
Maybe Iâm simply unlucky but I guess I should have sent the plugs back on delivery. It has been a really expensive mistake dealing with this company, compounded by the rubbish and rude response from their customer service. I hope anyone else dealing with them gets a better experience. I certainly wouldnât spend money with them again.
