Not fit for purpose in it’s current state

Used Origin for years and have always been happy with their service and quality. Latest experience has undone all of that for me. I placed quite a larger order and only half of it arrived. 3 emails and 1 message through Instagram with no response. I had to call through and chase them to send the rest of my order. No apology or even a simple “rest on its way” message.

It’s not the customers responsibility to fix your errors and constantly chase for a resolution.

Poor turnaround time and faceless AI support

Ordered coffee at 8am on a Friday morning. Received it late the following Thu afternoon (1 week from order). Asked why it took 4 days to dispatch, got AI generated support message reciting facts I can find elsewhere ("48 tracked delivery takes 2 days
"). Replied, another AI message, repeat


I will go back to a more responsive and reliable roasters.

I was actually really enjoying this


I was actually really enjoying this coffee until I found a stone in the bag. Luckily I found this before putting it through my grinder as it would have destroyed it.

A variety of checks is run by the farms we work with and our exporters, followed by further QA examination from us here at The Roastery. However, it can happen, very rarely, for a stone or two, to escape through the net.

I am relieved to hear the stone hasn't caused any damages to your grinder. However, should that have been the case, I would like to give you my full reassurance that Origin would have covered the cost of a repair/replacement.

Found a rock in coffee beans

The coffee is great, but they have serious issues with the quality.
I found a rock in my recent order the size of a coffee bean. Furtunately, I found It before I put it in my grinder, but it could cause serious damage to it or myself.

Whilst the farms we work with and our exporters run a variety of checks that are then followed by further QA examination from us here at The Roastery, very rarely, a stone or two can escape through the net.

I am happy to hear the stone hasn't caused any damages in this instance. Rest assured this is a very rare occurrence and that, should your grinder have experienced any damages, we would have covered the cost of a repair/replacement.

Great coffee, but stay away

Nice coffee, awful service. Deliveries constantly late, no consistency on delivery dates. If you join a subscription expect to wait longer for coffee delivery. They are plenty of competitors who do next day or 24 hour delivery and are just as good if not better tasting coffee.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. This is absolutely not the experience we want to give our customers and I am sorry to hear that you have had issues with deliveries on multiple occasions.

As a company, we have chosen not to offer for a 24hr delivery (same day despatch), but rather a next day despatch. A concious choice led by the pursuit of quality and freshness.

The coffee is roasted to order everyday from Monday to Friday and despatched the same day with options of a 24hr or 48hr service.

Excellent Service

Excellent coffee. I've had the subscription for over three months now. Coffee is consistently great and their customer service is top drawer. Sarah on their team helped me with a missing shipment last week and sorted it straight away. Highly recommend

Sells your email, don't sign up


I signed up to their mailing list only to find they've sold my address to multiple other companies. I know because I use the plus symbol alias including origin into my address
Why would I buy coffee from a company with zero ethics?
After contact with Sam from Origin Coffee, they explained that it was actually from a competition I'd entered, therefore the third party that used my address, not themselves.
They apologised and kindly sent through some sample coffee, which was very enjoyable. Thanks for reaching out Sam.

Logistics & Delivery process could be improved.

Less of a review for their coffee more on their logistics operation. Ordered an aeropress bundle, first delivery came with just the coffee. Spoke with support to highlight that no aeropress had arrived and they said they would sort for next day delivery. A week later and it had still not arrived, support said they could not locate tracking number and have promised to send it out for now the 3rd time. A little disappointing.

Lovely coffee, amazing service

Recent subscription buyer, had a very small issue in a duplicate of previous subscription coffee being sent. Origin got back to me within the day, offered multiple resolutions above and beyond my expectations. Will be a subscriber for a long time!

Something not quite right

I've tried to give Origin a good try. I had a subscription to 2 x Rotating Espresso Coffee Subscription and 2 x Feature Coffee Subscription and 1 x Decaf Coffee Subscription for two months. So I tried 4 of their non-decaf beans and their decaf. For the non-decaf in particularly they all lacked body and flavour. I came to the conclusion that something just isn't right. The theory that I have (I could be wrong) is that the beans are either stale (which is contradictory to the roast date on the packet) or the packaging somehow lets in oxygen when it's sealed and hasn't yet been opened. It could be something else but they tasted stale.

My set up is the Sage Bambino Plus and Timemore Sculptor 64s grinder and I brew flat whites. During the course of the three months (I skipped a month over Christmas to try other roasters) I upgraded my set up with a spring loaded tamper, a puck screen, a bottomless portafilter and an IMS basket so I wondered whether that made a difference. So I waited to write this review until I'd tried a different roaster with the new set up. I can categorically say that Origin beans have less body and flavour due to tasting less fresh than all other roasters that I've tried since moving back to the UK in 2022. Some of the other roasters that I've used are: Bailies, Lucid, Union, Pact, All Press, Square Mile, Bell Lane (Ireland), Coffee-Direct, Grind, Blue Coffee Box, and Modern Standard.

I don't know what to say because I gave them a fair chance over a period of time and across a variety of beans. It's not a roaster I will try again soon.

Wow!

Wow, do they know what they are doing. So many examples: objectively the best quality coffees I have ever tasted, given their use at world championships, and coming from the most famous farms, and chosen by a cup tasting world champion head of coffee; omni-roast actually works for all brew methods; espresso blend actually works for espresso; some top-notch baristas too, also competitors and winners at the highest levels. Who else has all that in the UK?

Ordered a lovely coffee machine and experienced a first class service from Origin and got some free coffee beans also 3 months worth with the deal.
Sarah in customer service at Origin was very helpful and polite would use again with confidence.
99% of people that have a positive experience with company's don't tend leave feedback so leaves the 1% to take 5 mins to say thanks 👍

Furthermore, our UK Living wage employer status coupled with our direct trade approach to coffee sourcing means that not only our the staff we employ, but the coffee producers we work with, are paid fairly.

Appreciate this means that items may not be the cheapest, but we feel our service and quality goes towards explaining the higher prices.
