Shoddy behaviour
1. we did a review which they said was for Trustpilot - it hasn't appeared... hence the follow up.
2.we booked dinner bed and breakfast for 28th February 2023. It was worth turning up for the dinner and breakfast. The room was in the middle of a building site with none stop noise from 10pm to 1am. At first we thought there may be a celebration , but expected it to die down. It didn't. We rang reception at midnight and were told they would check out where the noise was coming from. ha ha ha.
we rang again at about 20 past when we had done our own investigating. We were told they could hear it but didn't know where it was coming from! (rolling with laughter emoji here x6) We offered our assistance with their research and pointed out the work men in the rooms directly below with their sound system, boots on bare floors and the banging doors as they moved from room to room. About 1am the noise stopped. Not the restful stay we planned. Shouldn't have to ask the obvious questions about building works and peaceful surroundings when they advertise that's what they offer! IMHO.
3. At check out they receptionist was aware of the night time events and said she had applied a discount- we didn't check until later; she had deducted the staff tips of 7.22. The dining room staff where the best part. We would not recommend or go back to this place. Shoddy behaviour.
Classic Afternoon High Tea
Absolute disaster. Had a voucher for 2 for afternoon tea. When you make the booking on-line, they ask you if you have any dietary requirements. I responded by saying neither of us could eat Mayonnaise in any form. I asked if they could substitute with possibly cheese or roast beef. This request was acknowledged, and they said they would pass it on.
When we turned up we had an initial coffee. Some time after that came the sandwiches etc., and of course the sandwiches were Mayonnaise. We had 4 finger sandwiches each, 2 penny scones each and some mini cakes. Coffee was served in metal teapot and metal milk jug. Someone should tell them nobody uses these any more.
The server looked disinterested, and the deputy manager had little sympathy. This is a very poor excuse for afternoon tea. I paid £17.50p for a penny scone and a cup of coffee. I implore anyone thinking about afternoon tea at Peebles Hydro to think again. I travelled some distance to this venue and it was a total waste of time and money.
I wasn't sure whether to give this a 3âŠ
I wasn't sure whether to give this a 3 or 4 star - because it's such a beautiful location I will give it 4. Food could have been better, lounge a bit soulless and wasn't keen on the gin bar. But lovely hotel all in all.
Shocking service..Went on a spa break and circumstancesâŠ
Went on a spa break and circumstances changed tried to upgrade to a family room.. oh no thatâs not possible so had to purchase another room.. the break included £25 each towards dinner and after much embarrassment and arguing the point after half an hour it was sorted out.. the hotel itself is dated and in need of an upgrade however we made the best of it.. particularly at the price, there attitude is not helpful at all.. there are much nicer hotels around the area please choose one!! Shocking service !!
The hotel needs some attention to detail.
It has been very difficult for the hospitality industry during the last two years due to Covid.
I was allocated a cosy room on the 3rd floor with views over the roof of the leisure centre.
The carpet was not fitted very well onto the grippers, leaving long carpet threads around the edge/skirting board.
The bed was comfortable but there was a hole in the duvet cover.
The bathroom was fully tiled (floors and walls) with just a heated towel rail for heat which was inadequate to heat the bathroom. The water pressure for the shower was poor resulting in just a trickle and the water temperature was at best tepid. The catches on the window were broken and the seal on the double glazing was defective resulting in a cloudy window. Lovely Arran toiletries.
During the evening I saw rolls of carpet being delivered. Turned out the carpet was being fitted during the night resulting in me having to contact reception in the early hours of the morning, to change my room due to the hammering and banging and not being able to sleep.
Generally, staff are polite and attentive.
The restaurant does have the ambiance of a school refectory. The evening meal was very nicely presented. Lovely fresh sandwiches and scones for afternoon tea. Cakes lacking imagination.
On arrival, reception ask for your debit card but they don't tell you they place a £50 pending fee on your card.
As they say on the TV programme; Four in a Bed- Does this represent good value for money? Does it meet guest expectations?
Enjoyed a lovely weekend
Enjoyed a lovely weekend, plenty of walks, but the thing that made our stay was the gin experience absolutely perfect, friendly very knowledgeable young man. The only negative whilst I realise the service staff are very young they dont make eye contact, a bit more interaction with guests would make a huge difference. Relax and enjoy what you do.
The front of the hotel and entranceâŠ
The front of the hotel and entrance lovely and views amazing however once you get further in carpets very worn and need replacing, staff on main desk lovely, rooms quite small and shower water pressure poor on both showers, drinks way overpriced and the meal at The Grill which we had one night was like being in a dinner hall, no ambience, bright lights and overpriced - go to Peebles for a meal which we did 2 other night in walking distance, as other guests have said functions on at the weekend and noisy and fighting, poor parking facilities and we booked Segway as it was my mums birthday, my dad went to reception to see where we went for this and was told it was cancelled no reason, in fact we did not see anyone on them the whole time we were there - I would book Peebles next time and then book the spa separately
Fabulous Workshop Experience
My colleague and I ran a workshop for the leadership team of a fast growing Scottish company. Our collective experience of Peebles Hydro was brilliant. Everything from the interest and attention of the events manager, through the personal visit and regular check-ins by the hotel's general manager, to the first class refreshments and yummy eats. The lunch and tour of the onsite 1881 distillery was also brilliant. The quality of the workshop space - the Regency Room - was superb. Lots of space, great break out rooms, and views over the Tweed Valley to the Southern Uplands to die for! The bedrooms were roomy and recently refurbished and the restaurant food was first class. By far the best venue experience we have enjoyed in recent years. Thank you Peebles Hydro. We will be back!
What an amazing place
What an amazing place ! I've just had my birthday weekend here and it's been amazing from start to finish all the staff are very polite and helpful they all gave off positive energy which you can feel from the second you walk in
The food was utterly amazing
The place it's self is huge and it's beautiful it's the best place I've ever stayed at . It was very quiet and has the most amazing view from my room
My room was clean and the decor wasn't boring not once did I have that "typical hotel feel "
I had a hot stone massage and facial done by the wonderful kirsty and my god I'd go every week if I could !
Each and every person there is a credit to the company once again thank you !
Avoid at weekends and if vegetarian
This is a place to visit if you are nostalgic for the days when you couldn't afford to live anywhere except next to a noisy pub.
I've stayed at the Peebles Hydro twice now, for weekend training events. Both times there was a event on. First time I was in a basement room with nothing beyond it, so although I couldn't sleep till the music ended about 1am, that was that. Second time was a student ball and for hours afterwards they aimed to ensure that nobody slept. After being asked by staff to keep the noise down, one group reacted by going upstairs and jumping up and down shouting and laughing while the mirror and other fittings in my room rattled as if in an earthquake. The training organisers said that every weekend there is some event on at the hotel. Maybe you get lucky and get more than 3 hours sleep, maybe you get a migraine.
I also found myself presented with exactly the same two vegetarian choices for dinner main course as last time, neither of which contained any protein. While much of the rest of the UK has begun to understand that 'vegetarian' doesn't mean 'veggies and carbs please', Peebles Hydro is still doing vegetarian options the 80s way. Lunch was better and the views are good.
Don't waste your money
Don't waste your money - such an overpriced hotel. Standards have slipped entirely, rooms are outdated, activites difficult to book, staff uninterested and service shocking.
I really enjoyed our stay 5 star
The people make Peebles Hydro
Went to Peebles Hydro for the first time this weekend and it was great. The staff made the trip special, so thoughtful and attentive. From the kids club team to the restaurant staff they all made a big effort. But I have to say the stand out member of staff for us was Tracey on reception who just shone.
We will be going back and have started to recommend it to our friends
couldn't be better
class swimming pool great food and friendly staff
Celebration with friends
Lovely big room overlooking the front of the hotel, clean, modern , staff excellent couldnât do enough for us . Food lovely, party night great fun and excellent band playing.
There was 17 of us in total over two nights. Canât thank the staff enough. Spa great value for money and the best masssge I have had. Pool, steam room, sauna and whirlpool all kept clean. Given slippers and robe forgoing from pool area to spa, nice thick towels. Good quality toiletries in our rooms. All our crowd kept on the same floor next to each other. Same table for breakfast and evening meal. Sister hotel The Park lovely meal there on the Friday night, staff very attentive and accommodating. Would recommend a visit to this very friendly hotel that will go the extra mile .
WONDERFUL STAY PERFECT SETTING A++++
Was at this beautiful hotel for weekend conference 9/3/18 to 11/3/18. It was fantastic from start to finish amazingly attentive cheery staff. My room had views out front and to the side stunning scenery. Food and entertainment first class. My first time here and hope to be back soon.
