Exercise Extreme Caution[update 1]
[update 1]Exercise Extreme Caution â Broken Promises, Negligence, and Substandard Aftersales
I am only able to write this review now, several months later, due to the severe toll this entire ordeal took on my mental health. Trying to obtain a reasonable resolution from Phantom Motors was an exhausting experience that I would not wish on any buyer.
In January 2026, I spotted a 2018 Range Rover L405 Autobiography on Autotrader and contacted Phantom Motors to express interest. As I was travelling up from London, my partner and I booked a train and overnight accommodation in Wigan to view the vehicle. Upon arrival I was informed the car wasn't even ready to be viewed. To their credit at the time, they acknowledged the mistake and deducted our travel and hotel costs from the final purchase price.
We arranged a second trip but this time driving up from London. We inspected, test-drove and agreed to buy the vehicle. We couldnât take it home that day as Phantom Motors required time to complete pre-delivery prep, an MOT, a full service, ceramic coating, and a Shadow immobiliser installation which I had been told would be ready before we arrived. Given the initial trip's disruption, they agreed to deliver the car to London.
What followed was a cascade of delays, moving delivery dates and a trail of unacceptable failures:
⢠Dangerous Delivery & Missing Equipment: The vehicle was driven down from Wigan to London. Upon arrival the nearside rear tyre was severely deflated. Phantom Motors instructed me to get it repaired locally and promised to cover the cost. However the locking wheel nut key had been left out of the vehicle so the wheel could not be removed to be repaired.
⢠Recovery & Repair Costs: I attempted to take the car to a Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) main dealer. En route the tyre deteriorated completely, forcing me to pay £189 for breakdown recovery to the JLR workshop. JLR had to remove and replace the locking wheel nuts and the tyre at a cost of £895. Phantom Motors ignored subsequent attempts to recover these out-of-pocket costs.
⢠Unfulfilled Add-ons: I paid extra for a ceramic coating treatment, which was meant to include aftercare products in the vehicle. These were never provided despite repeated assurances they would be posted out.
⢠Questionable Servicing & MOT: The "Service Due" light was active at delivery; the salesman Longin assured me they had performed the service and simply forgotten to reset the indicator. Additionally an advisory appeared on the MOT despite promises that the vehicle would be prepped clear of advisories.
⢠Major Mechanical Breakdown: A few weeks after delivery, the Range Rover suffered an oil leak. The third party warranty policy which they promote extensively and I paid extra for through Phantom Motors refused to cover the repair, costing me over £1,000 out-of-pocket. Upon inspecting the engine, the repairing garage confirmed the vehicle had not been serviced by Phantom Motors as claimed and cast serious doubt on whether the ceramic coating had actually been applied properly across the vehicle.
Conclusion
This experience was defined by deception, unfulfilled promises and stereotypical dealership tactics. What was sold as a prepped, fully serviced and protected luxury vehicle turned out to be a source of constant financial strain and distress.
Buyer Beware: Do not take their servicing or preparation claims at face value and be extremely sceptical of the aftermarket warranty offered. Most importantly, if you live outside the Wigan area, do not purchase a vehicle from Phantom Motors. Once the car leaves their forecourt, you are entirely on your own.
[Following my initial review, Phantom Motor Company reached out to discuss my aftersales experience and expressed a desire to make things right. I appreciate the direct communication, as well as the care package sent. Following our telephone discussion on Friday, 7th August, I submitted the itemised breakdown and invoices for my out-of-pocket costs as requested. I am currently awaiting a final update. I will update this review again once the matter is fully resolved.]
