Avoid If Timing Matters: Two Delayed Deliveries and Lost Contractor Deposits

I placed twice orders for porcelain slabs and cobblestones, with a confirmed delivery date provided at the time of purchase. Each time they arrived later than was communicated by few days.
As a direct consequence, I lost the deposit I had already paid to my contractors, resulting in unnecessary financial loss, wasted time off work and disruption to my project schedule.
When I contacted the company the following day when the second delivery was late, the representative appeared dismissive and was seemingly unable to recognise their own invoice confirmation number. The responses I received were brief, unhelpful, and often limited to a few disinterested words, giving me the distinct impression that complaints of this nature were rather common for them.
Delays can happen in any business. However, poor communication, a lack of accountability, and an apparent absence of customer care are far harder to overlook.
Based on my experience, I do not recommend this company if your project is on a timeline.

Thank you for your review.

Having investigated this matter, I believe there may be some confusion regarding both the order history and the events described.

Firstly, we only dispatched a single order to you. Whilst there was a larger order placed at the start of May, this was cancelled and refunded before dispatch at your request. No goods were ever sent against that order.

The only order we supplied was a small £55 cobblestone order which was delivered on Friday 29th at approximately 11:00am. Our estimated delivery date at checkout was Thursday 28th, meaning the delivery arrived the following morning rather than "a few days late" as suggested in the review.

We fully appreciate that delays are frustrating. Nobody wants a delivery to arrive later than estimated, including ourselves. However, pallet and heavy goods deliveries are not the same as parcel deliveries and, on occasion, delays of a working day can occur within the courier network despite everyone's best efforts.

You also mention contacting us regarding the delay. Having reviewed the call recording from that conversation, I feel it is important to point out that our team were attempting to assist and locate the order and find the reason for the delay and to re-assure you it was coming, however they were repeatedly provided with a reference number that did not relate any format we provide. We also struggled to identify the order because basic information such as the delivery postcode was not provided when requested as you told our customer service member you find the order as that is what we are getting paid to do

During the same conversation, references were made to sand and cement deliveries, which further added to the confusion as we dont stock or supply sand

Our team are always happy to help and investigate delivery issues, but they can only do so with the correct information. Shouting at staff, speaking over them, or refusing to provide identifying information does not help resolve matters and simply makes it harder for everyone involved to get to the bottom of the issue.

We will always accept responsibility where we have fallen short. However, in this case, the order in question was a £55 cobblestone order that arrived one working day later than the estimated delivery date. Whilst we appreciate the inconvenience caused, we do not believe this fairly reflects the one-star review left here.

Hi the ordering and online process was good. It went wrong in taking delivery. I had ordered two different sizes of coping stones in width. 4 of the 12 smaller width ones were damaged/marked. The majority of the larger ones were ok. When I complained I was greeted with that’s why we state to buy 10 percent more than you require which I did. But because 33 percent of the small ones were not what you would have chosen to buy at a builders merchant if you went to pick them up. The company said that not 10 percent of the order was not right so couldn’t do anything about it and said I could buy some more of the smaller ones. I found this unacceptable that they class 2 different sizes as one order to work out there 10% rule. Won’t be using them again for the rest of the project and will stick to builders merchants in person where I can see the product and condition it’s in before I buy it. Not a good experience unfortunately.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that the ordering and online process went smoothly, although we are sorry to hear you were disappointed with aspects of the product.

That said, we do feel that a 1-star review is quite harsh in this instance. We fully respect that customers are entitled to leave feedback based on their experience, however there also needs to be a realistic level of expectation when purchasing hand-finished natural stone products at this price point.

These are hand bullnosed natural stone coping stones priced at £7.30 + VAT each. As with all natural stone, variations such as quartz lines, pyrite markings, tonal differences and occasional minor edge chips are part of the character and charm of the material itself. These are not machine-made concrete copings manufactured to an identical finish, but rather a hand-finished natural product.

Importantly, none of the coping stones supplied were structurally damaged or cracked in half. The photographs provided showed only minor edge chips and natural markings, all of which could be resolved with very minor trimming or sanding during installation. Furthermore, this only affected 4 out of the 34 items delivered.

As a business shipping heavy goods nationwide, it is unfortunately not commercially viable for us to spend approximately £55 on transport costs to replace products with a value of less than £30 where the concerns relate purely to cosmetic variation or very minor imperfections associated with natural stone.

We also clearly outline product expectations on our website prior to purchase, including that due to the way natural stone is packed and transported, some minor edge chipping can occur in transit, particularly on sawn-edge products such as limestone. These small imperfections are typically hidden once installed or can easily be positioned in less visible areas by the installer.

Additionally, black limestone products are commonly sealed after installation using a colour-enhancing sealer such as Tennax Black Cera G, which significantly reduces the visibility of minor colour variation and natural markings.

Whilst we would love for every coping stone to be immediately ready to lay straight from the crate, some level of selection, finishing or minor adjustment during fitting is entirely normal when working with natural stone products and is common practice within the industry.

We are sorry that on this occasion the product did not meet your expectations, however we hope this review also helps future customers better understand the expectations associated with purchasing natural stone products.

Black Limestone Paving

Ordered the black limestone paving for a patio. The sales staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about their products. They explained what I would need to complete my project.
Delivery was brilliant. I chose the day I needed and was informed with a two hour time slot by the driver.
Really pleased with the Limestone paving. Great colour and quality.

Edging bricks

Brought some edging bricks to go around some flower beds, amazing product. Arranged to collect and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend Primethorpe Paving. Thank you

Problem skillfully solved

DIY job. After an exhausting search found primethorpe online for the big dark porcelain pavers needed.
Having retired from a construction related career that focused much more than most on the value of making mistakes right, this challenge arrived as a customer of this company.
Read on for details, but to sum up my 5 star review, want to share that the measure of a company isn't when everything goes right. I pay for and count on it going right. It's when it doesn't that I learn if they're a 0 to 10.
6pm Fri pallets delivered by 3rd party shipper (american term for not a Primethorpe truck), and one full 1/2 ton very busted pallet is stacked on top of a healthy pallet but pavers are leaning 30 degrees with multiple straps snapped but the load is intact. Shipper drives off while I'm considering returning it as delivered without sharing paperwork, signature etc.
Promptly sent pics to Primethorpe asking whether they preferred to start over and swap the pallet for a less avalanche-waiting-to-happen one, or offer tips if I might attempt to di it. 9 am Sat a guy called to discuss, he gauges my ability, then shares some sage advise and assures they have my back for any damage. Told him later that Saturday surprised only 4 of 50 casualties and he offers to ship them asap.
Several steps afterward continued to show their inherent need to make me happy and in the end it was a pleasure how they turned a significant and job delaying problem into a positive experience. Again any company can trust a shipper and have matters go as planned. It's when something goes wrong that separates the companies I'll avoid in the future from the ones I'll look forward to doing business with again. Thanks to the guy who shared he made sure my late order would ship with my first one and then offered unpacking tips, abd to Donna who's follow up should also make management proud.
Didn't get discounts or anything free, just low stress, real service and nice pavers that came out looking perfect.

Fantastic Experience and Brilliant Quality Paving

Excellent experience with Primethorpe Paving from start to finish. The porcelain paving we purchased is fantastic quality and looks amazing now it’s been laid. The whole process, from ordering through to delivery, was straightforward and stress-free, with exceptional customer service throughout. Highly recommended!
