Great app, great customer service

Great platform for getting discounted upgrades. Had a train (for which I’d purchased an upgrade) cancelled last week and Ella & Mollie in their customer service team sorted out my refund with no drama.

Be warned, a sneaky app!

Be warned! Even with a winning bid, you are unlikely to get your upgrade. Auctions mysteriously vanish, or there'll be a 'glitch' . Even with the highest bid, you've very little chance of getting anything.

Can save a lot of money and great service

Used them for ages now for both upgrades and the Avanti Superfare. Easy to use, can save a lot of money, and the customer service is excellent too. They recently refunded a Superfare ticket that I couldn't use due to the Storm Floris disruptions, no issues at all and super friendly. I recommend them!

Sadly no longer competitively priced

Have used Seatfrog since it's inception, it was a god send for me as often had to change travel on the day due to work. But it is no longer competitively priced, so I am sticking to ticket times or changing directly with LNER which has proved cost effective.

I entered an Auction in error

I entered an Auction in error, no train ticket but Seatfrog charged me for a first class upgrade. They have refused to repay me, I have been a loyal customer and spent in access of £500 with them. Never again, I'll be using GWR next time

To clarify, when you enter an upgrade auction and place a bid, it's legally binding. If you win, the upgrade is issued automatically, and we're committed to paying the train operator, which is why we can't offer refunds once it's been fulfilled, even if unused.

The app includes multiple confirmation steps to help avoid accidental bids. We understand mistakes happen and always appreciate honesty when customers get in touch.

Buggy app. Awful customer service

I recently used Seatfrog for the first time. I was offered an 'instant upgrade' in the app, instead Seatfrog entered me into an auction, then told me my bid wasn't the highest.

This wouldn't be a huge issue, but when trying to resolve the problem with Seatfrog their support team repeatedly told me this was my mistake / misunderstanding and said I would have to prove the instant upgrade offer by providing screenshots of what I saw in app.

Really poor customer service passing the blame onto the customer and not taking responsibility or taking any action to investigate and try to resolve the technical issue.

Very happy with customer service

Very happy with how the customer service handled a booking issue I had. Maanasi and Ella V. Got it sorted in a couple of days.

This was the 3rd time I've used them for train tickets and will continue to do so and recommend after this.

Missed the parade, got my refund!

We bought tickets to go see the Liverpool parade, but it ended up not happening because of the overcrowding at New Street station.

We decided to head home and watch the parade as they crowd started to become quite angry sitting in the same area and not moving.

We put a request into Seatfrog to acton the refund, but only gave half back, as they said we came home. Huh?? No, we wanted the full amount back as vendors continued to sell train tickets to Liverpool knowing that people were never going to get there.

I did get my full refund back. The CS team there were excellent, professional and calm when they were dealing with me, even though I had put heat on them for the refund.

They heard me out and understood our positioning and reasons. Thank you to the team at Seatfrog. Greatly appreciated.

Un-usable

Un-usable. Constant error messages when trying to log in through LNER website. As before Seatfrog is total pants. I wish LNER would see sense and drop it. Just a ridiculous faff and a waste of my time.

Potentially illegal drip pricing for auction costs

EDIT: they now refunded me the fees so I couldn’t take them to court over this. It is clearly against the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, which came in to force April 2025.

Seatfrog added a £3 "platform fee" after showing the initial auction upgrade price — twice. This kind of “drip pricing” likely breaches UK consumer law. The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) confirmed that mandatory fees must be included in the upfront price, not just added at checkout.

I’ve submitted a formal complaint to Seatfrog to claim my £6 back.

If you’ve been charged, search "Correspondence with Seatfrog regarding the transparency of online rail ticket fees" and ask for a refund — you’re probably entitled to it.

Just to clarify on the platform fee situation: we make sure this is clearly shown right from the start of booking and throughout the process. We follow all the guidelines around transparency, so everything’s above board on that front.
The platform fee isn’t something we can refund - it covers all the tech that makes our auctions work and keeps the lights on. We know fees aren’t fun, but they help us keep the service running smoothly.

Not worth the time

Pointless system,

Bidding ends up coming close to or exceeding for first class advance booking price, and bidding you don't know whether you'll get the upgrade until the last minute.

None empathetic customer service along with unclarity around seating

Booked 3* upgrades for Grand Central to supposed first class. Turned up to find people sat in my seats, first class that was at best standard class of other providers and seats that were scattered around the carriage. At one point we thought it would be better to go back to our standard seats. The first class offering was a hot drink plus a cereal bar and prepacked hard mini pain auChoc.... Please!
If that's first class then I hate to think what standard is.
Upon contacting SF I was told to go away and contact Grand Central- I ask what are they going to do about it really? My upgrade aspect is with SF not the train company.

As plenty have said, avoid the company and buy a ticket to upgrade when you're on the train and have seen the offerings -cutting SF out

SeatFrog - A Must-Have for all train users

I had to cancel a booking with SeatFrog, and the response was immediate. Full refund (minus a £5.00 admin fee, which was a bargain). Thank you Molly! I managed to rebook the journey later, and was immediately offered the option of an inexpensive upgrade to First Class! Thank you SeatFrog for exceeding my expectations!
