Awful customer service and unacceptable tickets allocation

Used an auction to upgrade 2 tickets, seat frog somehow thought it acceptable to provide tickets in two different cars and then when asked for a refund as travelling with my wife and wanted to sit together, they point blank refused and had no ability to understand why I would expect 2 upgrades tickets to be sitting together, what if I was travelling with a child for example, totally lost on them that point and they refused to offer any kind of refund or change tickets. Having used them for a number of years, albeit only when travelling alone, I am stunned at the lack of understanding and poor customer support. I have closed my account as I cannot support such a company that has no idea how to treat customers fairly.

When allocating upgrades, we do our best to place passengers together as often as possible. However, due to pre-existing reservations and the last-minute nature of Seatfrog upgrades, we can’t always guarantee that winners will be allocated upgrades together.

Waste of money

Don't believe it. They will choose different timings. I have booked the ticket using seatfrog. They gave me ticket departure at 11:30 and reached the station at 12:45. And return ticket at 2:30 and reached to town at 3:35. I don't have even one hour in between 😔😕

Seatfrog promise to provide your seat 24 hours before departure. 6 hours before my first departure and no news but money taken weeks ago. No idea whether we can travel or not today - called Avanti and they said not their issue and Seatfrog not available so be very careful if booking with this company

Variable success given internet connections

The WiFi on the train network is so rubbish when you try to make bids after being gazunped it just times out! I wouldn’t bother unless you know you are on a line with decent connection (train WiFi is generally pitiful too) - so disappointing to say the least

I have found Seatfrog excellent to use

I’ve been using Seatfrog for around 18 months. I am not a fan of apps generally, but I have found theirs easy to use and efficient. More importantly, on a few occasions when things have gone wrong, they are super responsive and helpful, which I find is rare these days. They offer to help and then they actually follow through, always keeping me informed. Most recently, something went wrong which, as it turned out, was entirely my fault, but still they cleared everything up and went far beyond what they needed to do. This really is an unusual level of customer service in this day and age and is most appreciated.

Don't waste your time and money 2…

Just received notification that with 2 days before I travel there will not be enough upgrades available, I need 2 upgrades, but can only bid on 1. What a load of rubbish. Don't waste your time, travel at the weekend when an upgrade is only £25 or just buy a first class ticket anyway. By the time you've added platform fees there's almost no difference in cost. Cancelled bids, won't use again.
Avoid with Great Western.

A ‘First Class’ Experience!

Excellent service received from this company. I had a couple of queries which I raised separately, both were almost instantly replied to in a professional and friendly manner.
On obtaining an upgrade, the ticket was instantly forwarded with clear instructions as to how to use it.
Overall a first class experience all round and I will definitely be using Seatfrog again and recommending to others to do likewise.

Abysmal Customer Service

With a longer journey than we would usually take we decided to try for an upgrade. Outward journey was fine with LNER but massive issues on a 78.00£ upgrade. Basically Seatfrog wanted nothing to do with resolving the abysmal LNER service and wash their hands of any guarantee of quality or civility.

Dreadful 1st time use

1st time use. App showed ‘winning’ bid for 2 1st class ticket upgrade. At end of auction period details vanished from App. No update on App on result of outcome so assumed we’d not ‘won’, travelled in original seats with original tickets. Email came through towards the end of our standard fare journey just prior to reaching our destination “Yes - upgrade unlocked. Congratulations. Behold, your First Class upgrades 🥳️“ £100 wasted! 🤨 ☹️😤

Great experience

Great experience. I used SeatFrog to upgrade to first class on two LNER journeys. I managed to get 2 instant wins which was great and much cheaper than buying an upgrade normally. Will be using them again in future for sure.

Top tip: one thing that wasn't clear from their site was that if you are on LNER and you don't like the seat Seat Frog have assigned to you, you can go make a seat reservation and choose your seat through the LNER website, you just need your Seat Frog booking reference

How can you bid or 2 seats then less…

How can you bid or 2 seats then less than 48 hours before travel there only one seat available.its a con just by 1st class out right cheaper .just bought 2 new tickets though great western for a little bit more than what I paid for my original standard tickets.

Prices have increased!

I've used Seatfrog many times, but I’ve noticed that in recent weeks the prices have gone up by over £10, even when the Avanti fare remains the same. At times, the upgrade cost is not far off or even equal to the price of an Avanti Advance First Class ticket. There’s hardly any real saving anymore. It feels like it’s just down to greed now.

You’re right that there has been a significant increase in the minimum auction prices on this route recently. These price increases were implemented by Avanti West Coast as part of their recent pricing review. While we work with train operators to provide the auction platform, the reserve prices and BUN (Buy Upgrade Now) prices are ultimately set by the operators themselves.
All our upgrade pricing is set by the train operators as they determine the value of their First-Class experience. The good news is that these auctions still offer a significant discount compared to purchasing last-minute First-Class tickets.
We’ve actually been working closely with Avanti to ensure these upgrades remain good value while also expanding availability - you’ll now find upgrade options on more Avanti services than before!
Our team has been actively pushing back against these pricing increases, recommending a different approach that would better align with customer expectations. Avanti has agreed to review the changes in the coming weeks, and we will continue making the case for a fairer and more consistent pricing model.
We really appreciate your feedback as it helps strengthen our position in these ongoing conversations with our rail partners about pricing and customer experience.

The future of train travel in the UK!

Great service and the only way to grab a bargain upgrade. My first booking with them the trip was cancelled and they refunded the tickets without any issues. Will use this as my main booking app from now on.

Having been a Trainline user for some…

Having been a Trainline user for some time, I decided to give Seatfrog a try. Everything was ok on first few purchases with the tickets being more or less the same price on both platforms. However, as travel plans can often change due to unforeseen circumstances, being able to reschedule or apply for a refund is an important element of the service. Not so with Seatfrog. If you ever try to apply for a refund, best find a comfortable seat as it’s not an easy process and certainly no where near as easy as buying their tickets! Too long-winded to go into here but suffice to say after 3-4 weeks of going backwards and forwards, I gave up and told them to cancel my request. Would I use them again - no never. Back to the trusted Trainline for me :)

When you contacted us about your refund, our team responded with the available options based on industry standards for cancellations of the nature of your one. We offered both the standard FRT refund claim route and an alternative option of processing a refund with a small admin fee. As we didn’t hear back from you after presenting these options, we weren’t able to proceed with either refund method.
While the refund window has now technically passed, if you would still like to apply, we’d be happy to support you in submitting a claim. If you complete the FRT refund form that you were directed to in your email, then send us the claim reference, we’ll follow up with their team on your behalf. Please note that due to timing, we can’t guarantee the outcome — but we’ll certainly do our best to assist.

Keep it, Seatfrog!!

Bought 2 return tickets for my wife and I to visit Glasgow, via the Avanti App, no problem, I remember hearing about Seatfrog, so thought I would see how much it would be to upgrade to first class,!!!!!
Ridiculous price, more expensive than just buying a first class ticket directly from Avanti.
I don't know how they sell any 'upgrades'.

Use another app instead

I've repeatedly tried to get a refund on tickets where I've been unable to travel for reasons outside of my control. Each time I fill in the forms sent to me by customer support and each time they're rejected for no reason.

I'm going around in circles with this company and I'm sick of it. I'm going to start using a different app as I'm being ripped off continuously. If a train is cancelled or I don't/can't use the tickets then I should get a refund. Shitfrog makes it so difficult to get your money back. In fact, I think it's harder to get a refund through these thieves than with Avanti which is quite a feat.
