We are naturally concerned to read your comments, particularly as we take great care to ensure that everything is explained clearly and professionally from the very beginning. When we became aware of your dissatisfaction this triggered an internal review to ensure we had followed our professional processes which aim to provide exceptional customer experience. For the benefit of anyone reading, we’d like to set out the facts here.

1. Pricing and agreement
Before any services were carried out, our onboarding team explained the monthly pricing to you in detail on the telephone during a recorded call. We have reviewed that call recording and we are comfortable that we clearly expained to you how we work, the costs for the services you required and the next steps to commencing service with us. This was followed up in writing by email, which also included a copy of our terms of business. The pricing was therefore fully transparent and agreed before we began to provide you with any services. In fact, during a later telephone call you confirmed that you had not read these emails in detail, which may explain some of your confusion.

2. Professionalism of our team
Your lawn survey was carried out by David and Noah — two of our fully trained lawncare professionals who have received many 5-star reviews from other customers. It is unusual to hear such negative comments, as this does not reflect the feedback we consistently receive about the service they provide. They met with you at home and conducted a full lawn assessment, exactly as explained by our onboarding team, and in line with the clear process we follow for every customer. Only when you confirmed you were happy for them to proceed did they then apply your first lawn treatments - your service with us began at that point and naturally payment then became due.

3. Recommendations following the survey
It is part of our professional approach to assess each lawn fully and then provide optional recommendations during the lawn survey meeting and also in a follow-up email. These are designed to give customers the choice to improve their lawns further, but they are never compulsory. We made this clear both on-site and in writing afterwards.

4. Cooling-off period and cancellation
Because treatments had already begun within the first 14 days, the standard cancellation period no longer applied by the time you requested to stop. This was explained to you by our team over the telephone.

5. Overcharging
We have carefully reviewed your account, and no overcharging has taken place. The pricing is correct for the services delivered, and this was again explained directly to you over the telephone and by email so that you had a copy for your own records.

6. Payments
Payments were processed strictly in line with the agreed plan. Nothing was taken without permission — all charges matched the agreed terms and this was made clear to you verbally and in writing before you instructed us to provide your lawn services.

We regret that this experience has caused your wife stress, as that is never our intention. However, our team acted with professionalism, explained everything clearly, and supported our advice with detailed written communication.

When we welcome a new customer (and their lawn), this always starts with a full investigation into the current lawn condition to understand any underlying issues that may influence the way we proceed. We check for disease or grub issues. Build an understanding of your soil type, acidity and the grass varieties in the lawn. Only then can we proceed with relevant recomendations and the right treatments exactly for your lawn

Mrs Melville thank you for taking time to leave your feedback - albeit not as good as we would have liked. We have taken a moment to review your account before responding here. We visit you seasonally to apply your lawn treatments in West Wittering to manage nutrition, moss and weeds. We also provide soil conditioners to boost the microbial activity and soil health. Each time we visit we conduct a condition survey and note any lawn related issues. We also take photos of each lawn on every visit and these are saved on your account so we can track progress over time. Having reviewed these images we can see that there has never before been an issue which would indicate a leather-jacket grub infestation, until the most recent summer visit. Leather-jackets eat the roots of grass plants and when we are dealing with dry/hot weather (as we have been this summer) then the root damage becomes apparent as the plants suffer additional stress from lack of water. Thankfully we noticed the issues, investigated fully and diagnosed the problem. We have also put in place an integrated pest management strategy that includes application of our GrubX treatment to actively manage the grub population in the future. Maybe then we can earn those extra 2stars!

Dear CCG,

I’m truly sorry to read this and want to thank you for taking the time to share your experience — even though it’s difficult to hear. We completely understand your disappointment and take full responsibility for falling short of the service you expected, and that we aim to provide.

You’re right that the number of visits was low, but we operate on a seasonal treatment model rather than a monthly attendance schedule — something that can understandably cause confusion, especially early on in the service. That said, we accept that there were delays and missed appointments during your time with us, and this simply isn’t good enough.

The period in question coincided with an exceptionally challenging few months for our team, including operational disruptions and staffing issues that we tried hard to manage, but that did impact a small number of our customers. You were affected, and for this we are very sorry as we understand how frustrating that can be. We also recognise that your lawn’s progress was affected by one of the hottest and driest springs in over 80 years — not ideal conditions for visible improvement, especially early in a treatment programme.

That doesn’t excuse your experience, but we hope it offers some context. We'd still welcome the opportunity to make things right, and if you’re open to further dialogue, we’d be grateful for the chance.

We always send notification prior to our visit dates and we will send customers an after-service email when a visit is complete. This details what we have done for you and any recomendations from your lawn technician. We would really welcome your feedback on what we can do to improve this further - or you can update your techncian when he visits you in Farnham for your next lawn treatment service
