I'm just reaching the end of a long dispute with SbC. I picked a hire car up at the airport which we discovered was mechanically unsound and have been charge nearly E600 with no proof of previous safety checks done on the vehicle, the company just apportioned blame to the customer who happened to be unlucky enough to be hiring the car when it broke down.
Never ever hiring from them again.

It is a scandal! They charged us 550 euros + VAT for the license plate wich had an almost imperceptivel defect in a corner (i have a photo of it and would like to share it!). it was nothing! could be fixed by hand. At the same time we were complaining, other clients in their office were having an identical problem with a mirror.

Total scam. And they are proud of it. They charged 550 euros for a license plate that had nothing. Nothing!!! This a scam company. They will take you all the money of the deposit by pointing the most ridiculous things. They should be ashamed but they simply don't care. Malta do not deserve this complete shameful company.

Il giorno 24.04.2025 abbiamo ritirato un’auto (lancia ypsilon hibrid) precedentemente prenotata, presso l’aeroporto di Catania.
Dirigendoci a Siracusa, dove pernottavamo, dava spesso un segnale acustico seguito dall’accensione della spia dell’olio.
Abbiamo segnalato la cosa all’ufficio di Catania, i quali ci hanno indicato di farla vedere all’ufficio di Siracusa il 26.04.25 in quanto il 25 era chiuso.
Recati il sabato all’ufficio Sicily by car di Siracusa, il referente (con modi alquanto discutibili) ha controllato l’olio e ci ha detto che era tutto a posto, che la macchina non aveva problemi.
Ripartiti continuava ad accendersi la solita spia.
Il giorno successivo andando a Modica, in autostrada, il motore ha perso potenza e l’auto si è fermata. Oltre alla spia dell’olio il display indicava “FAR CONTROLLARE IL MOTORE” (ALLEGHIAMO FOTO). Abbiamo tentato di chiamare ai numeri da voi indicati nel contratto, il primo era sempre occupato, il secondo non rispondeva nessuno, il terzo risultava inesistente.
Cercando in Internet, abbiamo trovato un numero verde dove un operatore gentilmente è riuscito a passarci la persona che avrebbe dovuto aiutarci.
La signora che ci ha risposto ci consigliava di chiamare l’assistenza per il recupero dell’auto e alla nostra domanda su come potevamo rientrare noi, ci rispose di prendere un bus (IN AUTOSTRADA!!!) o di chiamare un taxi in quanto questa è la vostra procedura.
Abbiamo precisato che nel punto dove ci trovavamo non era possibile e che almeno ci desse dei numeri da poter chiamare, ma questa con tono arrogante ci rispose che aveva persone da servire allo sportello e ci chiuse la telefonata!!!!!!
A quel punto abbiamo riavviato l’auto e a velocità molto moderata siamo rientrati.
Ovviamente abbiamo limitato al minimo i nostri spostamenti, sempre con il cuore in gola per il timore che ci lasciasse a piedi all’improvviso.
Servizio post noleggio inesistente, VACANZA ROVINATA!!!!

Esperienza pessima a Malta, attirato dal prezzo basso del noleggio ho ritirato una Citroen C3 che avrà avuto almeno 10 anni, completamente scassata, mentre viaggiava sembrava si dovesse smontare da un momento all’altro con rumori mai sentiti prima. Il problema vero non è nemmeno questo, ho avuto un problema, ho parcheggiato l’auto in una zona a rimozione forzata senza accorgermene, ovviamente quando sono tornato a prendere l’auto non c’era più, chiamo il numero di telefono dell’assistenza scritto sul portachiavi, la voce dall’altro capo del telefono mi dice che avrei dovuto prendere un taxi e tornare in aeroporto nel punto di prelievo dove avremmo risolto il problema, una volta lì mi mandando nel punto di polizia all’interno dell’aeroporto affinché potessero cercare la mia auto in qualche deposito o per sporgere denuncia di furto, la Polizia trova l’auto che era stata portata con un carro attrezzi in un deposito giudiziario vicinissimo al punto dove avevo parcheggiato, quando torno al desk della Sicily By Car mi dicono che non potevo far altro che pagare 200 euro di carroattrezzi e 2 giorni vi noleggio auto in più, il tempo che sarebbe servito loro per andarla a riprendere, oppure potevo andar io a riprenderla per loro, peccato che il mio volo di ritorno stesse per partire. Quando ho segnalato loro che loro mi avevano detto di tornare in aeroporto invece di dirmi di andare al punto di polizia più vicino, che tra l’altro si trovava a pochi passi da dove ho dovuto prendere il taxi, si sono rammaricati ma intanto ho dovuto pagare 250euro in più, servizio pessimo, macchina da rottomare, Mai, Mai più con loro!

Horrible experience. Highly unprofessional manager. Refused to deal with rental car not working. If you want to wreck your time in Malta, use this company. Don't say you haven't been warned. The genuine reviews for this lot say it all!!

ESPERIENZA PESSIMA A CAGLIARI! Ho fatto una prenotazione on line per una macchina a noleggio con pagamento anticipato con carta Visa. Pagamento effettuato con successo così come da richiesta. Premetto che sul sito di Sicily by Car (a grandi lettere è specificato NOLEGGIO SENZA CARTA DI CREDITO ). Non fidandomi ho comunque contattato il numero verde il quale mi ha assicurato un prelievo di € 200,00 all'atto del ritiro dell'autovettura e che mi sarebbe stato restituito alla fine del noleggio. Tutto bene finchè, arrivato al box di Cagliari, non mi hanno prelevato le € 200,00 ma pretendevano una carta di credito a garanzia di eventuali danni. Ovviamente questo non detto durante la chiamata all'ufficio prenotazioni e forse scritto in chissà quale riga ben nascosta! Tutto il contrario di quanto pubblicizzato sul sito. Pubblicità davvero Ingannevole !!! Al contrario di altre compagnie ( Locauto e Record Go delle quali ho avuto invece un servizio davvero eccellente). Comunque tutto si sarebbe concluso con un semplice cambio di autonoleggio se questi del servizio prenotazioni mi avessero fatto il rimborso. Invece cosa mi propongono ? un Voucher ! E cosa me ne faccio di un Vaucher se poi non mi date la macchina per il servizio se non dietro una caparra mascherata che io NON ho scelto di darvi? Continuerò a reclamare i miei soldi indietro di quanto pagato in anticipo , nel frattempo e finchè non li riceverò non potrò che fare una pessima pubblicità per questa pessima gestione di un cliente da parte di Sicily by Car in ogni luogo, social, associazione consumatori e quant'altro mi è permesso per salvaguardare altri clienti come me!

Ritirata presso l'aereoporto di Brindisi personale molto professionale e molto educato in particolare Francesco che mi ha detto tutti i dettagli del noleggio

On loue une voiture elle est complètement taper de partout on se plaint il nous passe une deuxième voiture ou elle est en réserve et sans huile en gros ils sont incapable de trouver une bonne voiture , 2 mois après ils m’ont prélevé 70€ en plus que j’ai contesté à ma banque

I rented a car from this company, and on January 1, the police stopped us because the car had expired registration and no insurance. The car was impounded, leaving us stranded, and their “24/7 assistance” was completely unresponsive.

We had to retrieve the car ourselves and return it just to secure our deposit. Despite multiple attempts, we are still waiting regarding a refund. This company’s negligence is dangerous. Renting from them puts you at serious risk. Avoid them!

this company is like a scam. avoid if you can. you never receive any reply for any emails, or calls. for the incident they charged soo much money, and it has been almost 2 months, insurance company cant reach them. they are the worst

My flight, which was supposed to end at At 00:35 (Saturday) flight FR9656 was delayed by 3 hours. As a result, the car rental office was closed when we arrived, no information about opening hours, no answer to calls to +35699217673 - only voice mail. Same situation with phone calls until we physically arrived at the office.
By the time we were able to return to the car rental office on Monday, my 12 day reservation had been canceled and I could no longer collect the car I had booked and paid for (with insurance). As my car was booked through booking.com, the answer was that I should manage my booking through booking.com.

If I could award zero stars I would. Arrived at the airport on time, and went to the office, where we were met with a long queue. After 2 hours the remainder of the queue were called into the office to be told there were no more cars. I was shocked as we had pre-booked (and paid) online. Staff member advised us unhelpfully that this "happens all the time". There are plenty of other rental providers at this airport, none seemed to have long lines nor issues with delivering cars, so make sure you book elsewhere

Danger, problèmes de sécurité et d’assurance.
Un personnel à l’accueil (2 jeunes demoiselles) très froid et désagréable : peu concernées par les problèmes de sécurité du véhicule que nous avons dû échanger à la demande de la police qui a établi un PV à leur attention.
Premier véhicule : après contrôle de police, véhicule pas en règle, non autorisé à circuler et de ce fait non assuré en cas d’accident. Appel de la police à la plateforme du loueur, échange immédiat avec un second véhicule.
Second véhicule : état extérieur catastrophique, embrayage hors d’usage, véhicule qui part sur la gauche au delà de 20 km/h, trop dangereux donc retour à l’aéroport : accueil des agents pas surpris et pas concernés : expression sur la dame de l’accueil : « qu’est-ce qu’ils nous font suer ces touristes », nouv l échange.
3ème véhicule : test dans le parking ce coup ci, véhicule sale et avec des chocs partout mais le plus grave est à la lumière extérieure : pneus lisses à la corde avec des trous sur les flancs : je n’avais jamais vu cela de ma vie. Nous gardons la voiture pour les 48h00 qu’il nous reste mais prenons la décision de ne pas trop rouler pour ne pas prendre de risque.
Signalement au retour mais tout le monde s’en fiche, toujours pas surpris ni concernés.
Cette enseigne est un vrai danger public !!!

Cet avis concerne l’agence Sicily By Car de l’aéroport de Malte. Un accueil froid, voir désagréable. Des agents qui ne s’accordent même pas sur les prix car lorsqu’on nous oblige à prendre une assurance car nous n’avons pas de carte de crédit mais des cartes de débit, ils ne nous donnent pas le même prix d’une personne à l’autre ! Une première voiture que nous récupérons et qui affiche des voyants des les premières minutes de route (moteur, pneus, freins etc..). Nous nous rendons donc de nouveau à l’agence et on nous redonne une nouvelle voiture… qui affiche elle encore des voyants au bout d’un jour de route (voyant moteur). Pour finir une voiture avec 1 phare fonctionnel sur deux. Bref, à fuir !

Cet avis concerne l'agence Sicily by car de l'aéroport de Malte Voici notre expérience récente .Accueil agence assez froid .Véhicule fourni de classe inférieure à notre réservation (C3 pour C4).Etat général du véhicule très moyen (boîte de vitesse défectueuse ,en particulier marche arrière très difficile à enclencher .
Après 100 kms au matin du 3eme jour de location démarrage impossible et crevaison pneu arrière D. Changement de roue impossible à réaliser .Retour à l'agence en taxi qui envoie une assistance .4 heures d'attente à l'agence pour que l'assistance valide le remplacement du véhicule .Coût de l'intervention 502,68 € (197 € de remorquage et 305 €pour remplacement du pneu !!.Cette facture est à régler de suite si l'on veut repartir avec un nouveau véhicule .Nous avions heureusement contracter une assurance dommagesqui prendra en charge le remorquage et un forfait de 150 €pour le pneu .Résultat une journée de vacances gachée et un reste à charge de 155 €.Cette agence utilise les services d'une assistance à prix prohibitif .A notre avis une agence à eviter

the car was very dirty and smelled, the worker at the desk was very unfriendly, we didn't get the car we reserved at all, but they gave us another car, that second car couldn't be locked and had broken windows and there was garbage from people who used it before us, all in all a disgusting experience, avoid this agency at all costs and that they charged us an additional €100 because we changed drivers, PLEASE AVOID THIS AGENCY

I rented a car for 13 days from Sicilybycar Malta. I changed the first car the next day because the air conditioning was not working. The second car broke down in one day and 30 km, the gears did not work. I had to pay for the tow truck even though it wasn't my fault. Finally with the third car we were able to stay the rest of the days. Three cars for thirteen days. They rent you a car in very bad condition and when it breaks down, they charge you for the damage and the tow truck even if it is not your fault. I have been renting cars for over 20 years on my trips around the world and this has been my worst experience. At the office I saw more clients with problems. Run away from this company. SCAM!!!!

Pessimo. L'auto (con portello del portabagagli e aria condizionata rotti, oltre ad altri numerosi problemi) ci è stata consegnata con la batteria scarica: dopo un tragitto di 20 minuti, dal punto di ritiro alla destinazione, l'auto è stata parcheggiata per 2 ore, dopodiché non è più ripartita. Gli uffici non hanno risposto al telefono sino a quando hanno chiuso. L'unica soluzione per non rimanere a piedi è stata chiamare l'assistenza stradale (aspettata un'ora), che abbiamo dovuto pagare noi, così raddoppiando il costo del noleggio (nonostante la "full insurance"). Spiegato l'accaduto, ci hanno invitato a presentare reclamo via mail, perché gli uffici operativi non potevano, a loro dire, farci nulla (il giorno dopo, per telefono, ci hanno addirittura detto che avremmo dovuto riportare l'auto in aeroporto (sic!) anziché chiamare l'assistenza stradale). Il reclamo è rimasto ovviamente senza esito. Una stella solo perché non si può non metterne nessuna.

Utterly disgraceful car hire company. When we arrived we should have turned away as we saw a bewildered customer being forced to pay for a scratch on his hire car with police in tow, called by sicily by car.
The staff were rude and ignorant we should have been another warning to us. We got shown our car which was a battered wreck with no air con, we therefore refused and was offered another car which was equally as bad, by the time the third car was offered ( and the kids were tired and whining) we took it which was a huge mistake. It was a lesser car than we had paid for which sicily by car refused to reimburse us for and they wanted £1000 as a deposit, the actual car was no where near worth that, I don't think we have ever driven such a bucket of crap ever, the air con barely worked, we realised there was a window wiper missing and by the next day the car broke down. Sicily came out and said it was our fault it broke down as we were in the wrong gear! And if we called them again they would charge us !! This is despite a sign on the dash saying "engine faults and them having to charge the battery which was dead. Unfortunately it did break down a number of times over the next day and we had no choice but to hire a proper car from a local family run car hire company. I have never come across such a terrible company and I would guess that the cars are not even legally road worthy. When we dropped it back to them and told them of all the problems they did not care at all and got it ready to go out for the next poor victims. I really wish I had read the reviews it caused us a lot of stress and unnecessary time and money.
