No nonsense or hard sell, professional

Our vehicle was booked into Stratstone Mercedes-Benz Giffnock for what should have been a routine wheel balancing and alignment appointment. Unfortunately, what followed was an extremely stressful and disappointing experience.

Shortly after collecting the vehicle, my wife discovered that it would no longer engage any gear, barely a short distance from the dealership. Given that the vehicle had been driving normally before the appointment, I naturally questioned whether something might inadvertently have been disturbed during the work.

Unfortunately, it was approaching closing time, and there was very little assistance available from the dealership. To be fair, someone from the sales team attempted to help, but we were subsequently informed that he could not locate my wife, who was stranded nearby.

To make matters worse, we were due to travel to the United States the following day, and the vehicle had broken down in a position that partially obstructed someone's driveway.

We were advised to contact Mercedes-Benz Breakdown Assistance. Although the assistance process itself was handled reasonably well, the recovery was painfully slow. Despite reporting the breakdown at approximately 4:30 pm, the vehicle was not recovered until around 2:00 am the following morning.

This was incredibly frustrating and stressful, particularly as I had only a few hours remaining to prepare for our trip and get to the airport. It was certainly not the experience I expected following a routine visit to a Mercedes-Benz dealership.

The vehicle was eventually recovered and returned to Stratstone Mercedes-Benz Giffnock for diagnosis and repair.

While we were away in the United States, I continued to monitor the progress of the repairs. This is where I must give special recognition to Simon from the Service Department, who was outstanding throughout our dealings.

Simon demonstrated genuine professionalism, patience, empathy and excellent communication. He kept us informed of developments and, at one stage, explained that the required replacement part might not arrive before our return. He also advised us to arrange a courtesy vehicle in the meantime.

Thankfully, our vehicle was covered by an extended warranty, which provided some reassurance.

When we eventually collected the repaired vehicle, Simon took the time to explain what had happened and the repairs undertaken. He handled the entire conversation with professionalism, understanding and genuine consideration for the inconvenience we had experienced.

For me, Simon represents exactly the kind of customer service that a premium brand such as Mercedes-Benz should consistently deliver. It is not just about selling premium vehicles or providing impressive facilities; it is about how customers are treated, particularly when something goes wrong.

I believe Mercedes-Benz would benefit from having more experienced, customer-focused professionals like Simon, who understand that empathy, accountability and effective communication are just as important as technical expertise

While I remain disappointed by the initial experience, the lack of immediate support and the significant disruption caused, I also believe in giving credit where it is due.

The vehicle has now been repaired and is back on the road.

A sincere thank you to Simon for his professionalism and exceptional customer care. You are a real asset to Stratstone Mercedes-Benz Giffnock, and I sincerely hope your management recognises the difference you make.
