Very disapointing in this particular experience- the fees were resonable, the solicitor was very approachable, tried very hard to help and prompt but the bottom line was that he didn't seem to have had the relevant experience for the case he took on. I feel in retrospect that I made a big mistake.
The matter concerned the ground for repossession in the case of an assured tenant. I was given advice on which I undertood with all the provisos could form a reasonable basis for a court case. Since the consequences of going to court (the next step) were potentially very expensive, I looked myself for further information on the internet which cast significant doubt on the advice. The response was that given the case was complicated the solicitor could now approach a barrister for more specialist advice on my behalf. I chose not to and as time went on the doubts only grew for example a council official (not a lawyer) opining that the advice looked"complete *" ).

In short even with all the usual provisos and warning advice had been given out as the basis for a court case but which certinaly needed double-checking and which in the end didn't seem to have merited that.

Reply to company's reply:
The key point here is that the facts of the case were known right from the start. Had then the solicitor said at the outset this is a complex case, advised a barristor's opinion and the relevant price given from the start this would have been a fair and professional service.
The solicitor though tried to answer it himself and charged for the answers (in two stages) - only in retropsect and on the advice being questioned was it then noted that the case was complex and could benefit from specialist advice. (The company's reply seems to imply that all the options were laid out from the start). This salami process puts the client in the position of cutting loses or paying a further sum to essentially check advice given and paid for.

And what does it mean for a company to say that they stand by their advice? If I go to court on it, it's totally at my risk. If I now go to a barrister it's at my expense. So how does a company "stand by" their advice without it being an empty phrase?

I contacted Summerfield Browne solicitors following a quite serious dispute I had with the student loan company. I was allocated the disputes solicitor Zainab Zaeem-Sattar for my case. The case was dealt with very professionally with regular updates and everything about the case and legality explained clearly along the way. There were no hidden extra costs and very reasonable in cost. Zainab was fast, efficient and thorough with my case but she clearly is also very good at what she does! My case was resolved with good news quicker than I thought it would be. I would highly recommend Zainab and Summerfield Browne. If you are skeptical don't be (I was at first as I have dealt with some poor solicitors in past who charged extortionately) but Zainab has restored my faith in good solicitors! If I ever need a solicitor again I know who to contact without hesitation! Thank you Zainab & Summrfield Browne.

Without going into detail, I was feeling quite dejected regarding a certain situation I’m currently in. However, as soon as I spoke with Zainab today (who was also really friendly), the advice she gave me has made me realise that I shouldn’t feel as if there’s no hope in pursuing what I’m trying to do.
